To quote Steel Panther: “Death to all but metal.” It’s how I feel right now after reading Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo’s electrifying Dark Nights: Metal #1, Aka your new favorite comic book. If this were a song, it’d be a hard-hitting, down-tuned ripper to wash away the filth of “Despacito” from your ears. It’s that little something you want to play loud and proud.
To give you a brief rundown of what happens in this bonkers book: we kick off with the Justice League battling Mongul’s murder machines in a coliseum. In order to defeat these things, though, the League have to climb into them and form their own Megazord. Yes, Snyder and Capullo go full-on Power Rangers here!

I remember growing up when the real super heroes wore tutu’s and carried a mop. This may sound strange to some people, but I can assure you this wasn’t a weird childhood fantasy, I am talking about the original avenger Toxie, in The Toxic Avenger (1984). I have enjoyed the continuing story of ‘The Toxic Avenger’ which includes 3 sequels and a children’s cartoon, so when I heard that they would be continuing the story with a new rock musical I was eager to check it out.
I originally saw the musical version of The Toxic Avenger during a limited run at the Southwark Playhouse in 2016 and it was one of the best musicals I have seen. The show is in keeping with the dark violent humour of the original films and had me laughing throughout. The fact it is a musical may not appeal to everyone, but Toxie...

Like a fine wine, Joe Manganiello just gets better with age.
During an appearance on Monday’s Ellen DeGeneres Show, Sofia Vergara opened up about her husband’s recent birthday bash — and why she loved watching him ring in the big 4-0.
“It was great,” she gushed. “It wasn’t that big — it was only like, 150 people — but it was fun for him.”
“He did what he wanted to do,” she continued. “He only allowed me to do a little bit of decoration, nothing crazy. I just got balloons, flowers and the cake, and he took care of the rest.

Paris Jackson is an '80s rock girl. Jackson, 18, makes a cameo appearance in the latest music video for the glam rock band, Steel Panther. "She's Tight" - the band's video for the first single off of their newest album, Lower the Bar, is now available on Vevo. The daughter of the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson, is seen sporting a gray off-the-shoulder tee with a flannel shirt tied around her waist, and a shorter 'do in the video remake of Cheap Trick's 1982 song. Last night was the historic House of Blue's final performance and it was surely an evening to remember! Miley Cyrus closed out the night and surprised fans with an impromptu performance of Def Leppard's " Pour Some Sugar On Me" after she was called up on stage by none other than her dad Billy Ray Cyrus (who was performing alongside Steel Panther). The famous father-daughter duo appeared to have a blast on stage as they danced around with the glam metal band as the crowd went wild, understandably. Billy Ray was seen strumming an air guitar while his former Disney darling daughter showed off some of her killer dance moves. Meanwhile, during the star-studded night, 'N Sync's Joey Fatone...

The dust has now settled on the granddaddy of rock and metal festivals, and as rock fans wander back to their desks bleary-eyed with heads full of helicopter drum bursts and face-melting guitar solos, it’s time to take stock of the three days of festivities at Castle Donington.
This year more than any recently, it feels like Andy Copping went for as diverse an experience as possible, adding eye-brow raisers like Status Quo to the bill and effectively allowing two anniversary headline slots (with The Offspring playing the second stage on Friday unjustly). But together, the bill worked well, charting a course through rock history, and paying homage – even with the comic sensibilities of Steel Panther – to the previous steps that make the ongoing journey so special and so important.
Inevitably there are some who will always say that Sonisphere, or Bloodstock...

After a very long wait, professional football is back in Los Angeles — kind of. The Arena Football League's La Kiss (2-1) made its home debut in Anaheim's Honda Center on Saturday, and as one might expect from a team owned by Kiss members Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, the game felt as much like a rock concert as a football game. These are dark times we are living in: ”Gangnam Style” is the most viewed music video on YouTube, MTV is consumed with shows about teen pregnancy, and Macklemore won four Grammys.
While there are still a few musicians and producers out there making great music, these days it seems that the landscape is completely littered with albums that just plain suck, and yet which also still sell an embarrassing number of albums. The sad truth is that awful music continues to be made by the boatload, and there is nothing you or I can do to stop it.
And guess what? The albums scheduled for the upcoming year seem as dismal as ever, with the likes of Chris Brown, Steel Panther and Glee’s Lea Michelle set for releases. Cover your ears, batten down the hatches and prepare for the worst, because there some terrible albums being released...

Oh, hair metal. One of the easiest targets for hate among the music community. It’s easy to see why, of course. The ridiculous make-up, the typically shallow lyrics, the drugs and party lifestyle. Not things that your average listener would associate with aesthetically pleasing music. And the existence of parody bands like Spinal Tap and Steel Panther, as hilarious as they may be, don’t help matters. But, love it or hate it, it exists.
I, for one, love it. And not in an ironic way either. I mean genuinely, I think it’s awesome. So much so that I actually hesitate to use the term “hair metal” because it’s become a derogatory term. But, if I were to say “80′s-style metal” or “commercial metal”, it’d be too vague and you probably wouldn’t know what I’m talking about.
So here are my picks for the 15 head-bangingest,...

Steel Panther have built a massive following since the release of 2009’s debut “Feel the Steel”. Parodying all that was 80’s American hair/glam metal excess (think Poison and Motley Crue), some critics may have questioned the longevity of what is essentially “just” a comedy band. Well fast forward to 2012, and I’m glad to report they’d be eating their words.
Selling out an almost 2000 capacity venue on a Wednesday night is pretty darn impressive and it’s nice to see some costume clad revellers amongst the crowd. Peering through the wigs, I spot several children – I’m going to assume the parents have took the time to listen to the band, and have mentally prepared for “Little Jimmy” asking what “two in the pink and one in the stink” actually means.

With the dust (or mud more appropriately) now settled on this year’s Download festival, and fans of the event already able to pre-book tickets for next year, the time has come to look back at the best performances of last weekend. Though Friday’s line-up might not have been the most inspiring – good news for those who were unable to catch any of it thanks to the horrendous traffic leading up to the event – this year’s line-up still featured some seriously stand-out talents, from mega artists like Metallica and Black Sabbath through relative upcomers like Periphery and rousing comedy-tinged acts like Steel Panther and Tenacious D.
This tenth anniversary edition of the festival was a typically big affair, and the occasionally apocalyptic-feeling weather was never enough to dampen the spirits of the 100,000 or so rockers who made their annual pilgrimage to Donington. It was certainly a rewarding experience as well,...

Some might say that the shtick is wearing thing now – that the Greatest Rock Band in the World skit has run its course – but on the evidence of this epic, crowd-pleasing performance, there is still more than enough good feeling towards the dynamic duo and more than enough in their show itself to suggest they aren’t going anywhere.
The two coolest geeks in the music industry captivated a hugely swollen crowd on the main stage on Saturday afternoon, their stage set-up fairly simple apart from the giant inflatable phoenix/penis which inevitably ejaculated glitter at the finale and their set mixing old classics with new material from their latest, newly released album – Rise of the Fenix. They might not look quite the part – their acoustic guitars propped quite high on impressive paunches – but despite their comic leanings, Tenacious D remain an impressively technical duo, backed...

A night of performances inspired by rock hits started with a fiery, pyrotechnic-assisted bang Monday evening as the legendary band Kiss ushered in week four of Dancing with the Stars.
Sherri Shepherd and partner Val Chmerkovskiy were first up tonight, ditching their often-bubbly routines for a dark and mysterious Tango. The pair was praised for their adventuresome spirit with triple 7s, but gained some criticism for losing their "sparkle" in the process.
Jaleel White's Ex Continues Bitter War of Words
Katherine Jenkins embraced her inner bad girl this week for a lively Paso Doble. The routine was a crowd pleaser, although the judges found the dance lacking. In the end, the panel dished out 24 points (8,8,8).
Jaleel White embodied his Family Matters alter-ego "Stephan Urkel" last week, and tonight, White called upon rock god Mick Jagger to add some spice to his Tango with Kym Johnson. Overall the dance was a hit, earning the couple...

Reflecting on the just-passed holiday season, slightly over a week ago on Christmas day, I failed Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan's test by not eating at a Chinese restaurant. Instead, my husband and I stayed home. With him in the kitchen cooking a delightful dinner, I took the day off from researching corporate law and watched whatever programming our cable TV provided.
And that programming contained a seemingly disturbing amount of "manliness," whatever that means.
Decades of published research demonstrate negative consequences that flow from reinforcing sex and gender-conforming ("cisgender") roles and behavior. Worse, gender nonconformity is a risk factor for harassment, bullying, suicide, and other violent acts. Black or Latino males expressing varying degrees of femininity particularly have been subjected to gender-based killings.
For example, "50 Under 30" examined the killing of 50 non-cisgender people who ranged in age from 13 to 30. The research detailed how people such as Gwen Araujo were targeted and killed,...

In case you didn’t realize, VH1 Classic has declared today, 11/11/11, National Metal Day. We’re sure we’re not the only ones to blast Mastodon in our headphones while everyone assumes we’re typing away to the sweet sounds of Britney Spears. Not every metalhead wears leather pants, T-shirts and a scowl, right? Over the years, several surprising celebs have come out of the closet as fans of the hard stuff — and not just when those Iron Maiden shirts were really popular at Hot Topic.
Years ago, MTV discovered that Demi Lovato was a serious fan of black metallers Dimmu Borgir among other groups we’re sure never appeared on Radio Disney. Kat Dennings likes to tweet about knitting while listening to metal. This 10-minute video of a tipsy Kelly Clarkson rocking out onstage at a Metal Skool show in 2006 is truly endearing. And only one celeb has actually toured with Ozzfest — Ms.

The unknown can be intimidating because you don’t know what to expect, but sometimes the unexpected proves to be more exhilarating than the predictable. Here is where Steel Panther comes in. Instrumentally and vocally, the quartet of Steel Panther resembles the sounds of 80s rock n’ roll bands, but lyrically, there is no way to categorize them. Steel Panther, which consists of vocalist, Michael Starr, guitarist, Satchel, bassist, Lexxi Foxxx and drummer, Stix Zadinia, released their debut album, “Feel The Steel”in 2009 via Universal Republic Records. Produced by Jay Ruston, “Feel The Steel” is a bold album that will have you questioning, did they just really say that? No need...

We observe Gaga in her natural habitat, with a good bottle of whiskey, in Bigger Than the Sound.
By James Montgomery
What is Lady Gaga's blood doing on the floor? We'll find out soon ...
Photo: James Montgomery/MTV News
Lady Gaga is sitting down, which is probably a good thing, considering she's wearing 6-inch heels and has spent roughly seven hours drinking whiskey with dudes who look like they were roadies for Bang Tango.
Drinking wasn't the only thing she did, of course. She also danced, vamped, sang, bled and underwent more costume changes than Evander Berry Wall — all over the span of one very long day on one very big soundstage in New York City. I'm not allowed to write about exactly what she was shooting (at least not yet), but suffice it to say, Gaga certainly deserved a few minutes of rest. Especially since she had spent...

Corey Feldman put on his best sparkly glove and fedora last night and attempted to dance like his old pal Michael Jackson -- and as a whole ... it wasn't terrible. Feldman spun around, kicked and semi-moonwalked during Steel Panther's show at the House of Blues in L.A. Fun Fact : Corey kept saying it was his birthday ... and the band even played The Beatles birthday song for him ... but his birthday is actually July 16. So ... Merry Christmas,...

His may not have won " American Idol ," but James Durbin is still a rock star! The former "AI" contestant hit the stage last night during 80s cover band Steel Panther 's show in L.A. -- where he killed it singing Journey 's classic (but wildly overused) song " Don't Stop Believin' ." The avid wrestling fan was joined on stage by former WWE star Chris Jericho and comedian Dane Cook , and the crowd ate it up! Ironically, Durbin sang this song on "Idol" -- and was eliminated the following night. Check out the video above! Read more...

Just to reaffirm, this post was written in 2011 about something that happened in 2011. According to TMZ, Corey Feldman had left his studded leather Dream A Little Dream jacket backstage after appearing on stage hair metal hellions Steel Panther at the House Of Blues in La Monday. Though he only left it for a short while, some heartless enthusiast for vintage ’80s badassery swiped Feldman’s iconic garment. Needless to say, Feldman is pissed! Sure, everyone knows Feldman has an extensive collection of ridiculous jackets, but this one meant something.
A representative for Corey (possibly named Corey) told the site that the club’s staff have yet to get any leads from security cameras, which either means a) someone truly stealthy took the item—sure to be worth dozens of dollars—or b) the jacket is still wrapped around Corey’s waist and he just didn’t notice. If you see...
