- Producer
Doc Butler is an actor, writer and director. He originates from the rural village of Feckenham in Worcestershire, UK.
The son of a funeral director and a record dealer, he began on the village hall stage, in the church choir and sprinting down country lanes with his band of brothers, friends and a video camera. Little Balloon - the production house formed from these beginnings with his brothers Oobah, Peter and John - has continued since, creating an abundance of films, series and comedy skits. Oobah's infamous 'Shed at Dulwich' prank began a new brand of comedy heists involving Doc and other members of their collective, frequenting VICE, Channel 4, and BBC.
In tune with his roots, Doc is also a classically trained singer and accomplished voice actor featuring in audiobooks such as The Crash by Catherine Miller on Audible, as narrator and voicing all 64 characters.
Doc has an extensive background onstage in classical, dramas, live comedy and improv, notably playing lead in the UK debut of The Irish Curse by Martin Casella, and was involved in a comedy troupe with comedian Rich Keeble, a relationship that continues to transcend onto screen. Doc looks forward to taking on new theatrical roles in the coming year.
On TV, Doc has assumed lead roles in both Coronation Street and Call the Midwife. He has a wealth of experience in film, and most recently appeared with Daisy Ridley as Uncle Ederle in Disney's Young Woman and the Sea.
Offscreen, Doc's writing is award winning, trademarked with both truth and absurdity in equal measures. His projects range from In the Bin, his award winning directorial debut, to his own comic book series Primate. His newest comedy navigates attraction and seduction in a blind date amidst a masked society, during the Covid-19 pandemic. Bugtown is in pre-production, due to shoot in November 2024.
