The small town of Duffy, Georgia, has always centered around one thing: professional wrestling. For decades, thespians like Tom “King” Spade thrilled crowds at the Duffy Dome. Though his charisma lit up the ring, money was scarce. Still, Tom’s sons Jack and Ace grew up enamored by the sport. Now adults, they’ve inherited their father’s legacy—for better or worse.
The Starz series Heels follows the brothers as they run the Duffy Wrestling League. Season 1 explored their rivalry while keeping the promotion afloat. Then tragedy struck; Tom took his own life, leaving big questions. Season 2 sees Jack and Ace still grappling with their father’s ghost. The league has momentum, yet cracks emerge. Outside the ropes, personal demons loom large.
By delving into the characters’ pasts, Heels shines a light on what shaped this close-knit community. Flashbacks reveal the Spades’ complex bond, formed in this atmosphere of fleeting fame and fickle fortune.

“Heels” is now officially streaming both of its seasons on Netflix, giving the former Starz series a chance to capture a much bigger audience than it ever had before.
In an interview with Variety, series creator Michael Waldron joked that he and the show’s team would frequently discuss what it would be like if the show had debuted on Netflix originally.
“We often said, ‘Well, s–t, if we were on Netflix, everybody would be watching this thing!” Waldron said. “And now it’s kind of like, alright, the universe called our bluff.”
“Heels” premiered on Starz in 2021, with the second season dropping in 2023 before it was canceled along with several other Starz shows. The series follows the Duffy Wrestling League (Dwl), a struggling pro wrestling promotion in a small town in Georgia run by Jack Spade (Stephen Amell). The wrestling drama Heels delves into the complex bond between two brothers thrust together in their father’s small-town wrestling league. After their dad’s passing, Jack Spade takes charge of the struggling Duffy Wrestling League in Duffy, Georgia. He plays the villainous “heel” in the ring while penning twisted stories. Younger brother Ace shines as the heroic “babyface” but dreams of escaping their sleepy burg.
Tension simmers between the siblings with differing visions for the promotion and their lives. Jack sees Dwl as his legacy, crucial for providing for his family. Ace yearns for fame beyond their backyard circuits. As the brothers grapple inside the ropes and out, we glimpse their rocky reality beneath the pageantry.
Starz’ Heels immerses us in this gritty sporting world. But it’s the emotionally charged kinship at its core that hooks us. Watching Jack and Ace’s relationship shift hold-by-hold keeps us hooked till the final bell.

Kelli Berglund was heartbroken when Heels was canceled last year by Starz after two seasons. The scrappy drama centered on the world of pro wrestling and the sacrifices needed to make it. Along with Spade brothers Jack (Stephen Amell) and Ace (Alexander Ludwig), the talented ensemble cast included Berglund’s Crystal Tyler. She wanted to be more than just eye candy within the fictional Duffy Wrestling League and to succeed within a male-dominated industry. Now Netflix is bringing the series to their massive streaming platform on September 15, and the hope is her story and others may continue. History has proven that a groundswell of support could bring a show back from the dead. Berglund is certainly ready to lace up the boots once again if that is the case. Here the actress opens up about playing the character, a recent cast reunion, and her hopes for the show’s future.

Evil reveals itself. Ahead of its premiere, Prime Video has released the final trailer for Season 2 of “The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power.” The big-budget high fantasy series is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s original “Lord of the Rings” trilogy during the fabled Second Age of Middle-earth’s history. Per the official Season 2 logline, after being cast out by Galadriel without army or ally, Sauron has returned, and the rising Dark Lord must now rely on his cunning to rebuild his strength and oversee the creation of the Rings of Power. “Heels” has set its Netflix launch date.
The streamer announced Wednesday that the Starz series, which was canceled after two seasons in September 2023, will become available on Netflix on Sept. 15. Both seasons of the series will drop on that date. Netflix had previously announced in April that it had licensed the series. “Heels” aired its first season on Starz in 2021, with the second season following in 2023.
That is good news for fans of the show, which followed the professional wrestlers of the Duffy Wrestling League, a small independent promotion in Georgia. Jack Spade (Stephen Amell) inherited the league from his father and now struggles to keep it afloat while also trying to take it to the next level.
The series also starred Alexander Ludwig, Chris Bauer, Mary McCormack, Kelli Berglund, Allen Maldonado, Trey Tucker, Robby Ramos, Alice Barrett Mitchell, Roxton Garcia, David James Elliott, Joel Murray, and Cm Punk. Mike O’Malley,...

“Netflix is very practical,” EP/Showrunner Mike O’Malley told EW, which first broke the news about the premiere date. “If a lot of people watch the show, then there’s a real chance that we can make more. Heels has nailed its landing after Starz canceled the series in 2023. Netflix and Lionsgate Worldwide Television Distribution Group have agreed to a licensing agreement for the two seasons of critically-acclaimed drama from Mike O’Malley.
Deadline has learned there is an option for a third season, but that all depends on the availability of stars Stephen Amell, who booked the lead role in the Suits spinoff, and Alexander Ludwig, who’s toplining Earth Abides for MGM+. A spokesman for Lionsgate declined to comment.
Heels revolves around the men and women who chase their dreams in the world of small-town pro wrestling. Set in a close-knit Georgia community, it follows a family-owned wrestling promotion as two brothers and rivals (Amell and Ludwig) war over their late father’s legacy. In the ring, somebody must play the good guy and somebody must play their nemesis, the heel. But in the real world, those...

‘Loki’ Head Writer Eric Martin Talks Episode Four’s Explosive Ending: “There’s Meaning in All of It”
[This story contains spoilers for Loki season two, episode four, “Heart of the Tva.”]
If Ke Huy Quan’s Ouroboros is the glue that holds the Tva together, then Loki season two head writer Eric Martin is the Ouroboros of the entire Loki enterprise.
Martin’s journey began in grad school when he befriended future Loki creator, Michael Waldron. The duo first cut their teeth as production assistants on Rick and Morty and Community before reuniting a number of years later as full-fledged writers on Waldron’s stellar yet criminally underseen Starz wrestling drama, Heels. Once they wrapped up their responsibilities on Heels, the duo jumped ship to Loki season one, helming what many consider to be the MCU’s finest outing on Disney+.
The lesser known part of the story is that Martin actually had a lot more to do with season one than his staff writer credit implies. During the later stages, Waldron...

There are some big changes at Starz, and it's bad news for four shows.
Variety reported Monday evening that the premium cabler has canceled Heels, Run the World, and Blindspotting and is scrapping The Venery of Samantha Bird ahead of its premiere.
Heels, Run the World, and Blindspotting lasted for two seasons on the premium cabler, but it seems that the trio didn't have enough interest to sustain additional seasons.
The highest profile of the three shows was Heels, which starred Stephen Amell as Jack Spade, a man who inherited the league from his father.
However, he struggled to keep things running well, leading to plenty of drama across the two seasons.
The cast also included Alexander Ludwig, Chris Bauer, Mary McCormack, Kelli Berglund, Allen Maldonado, and Trey Tucker.
Rounding out the cast were Robby Ramos, Alice Barrett Mitchell, Roxton Garcia, David James Elliott, Joel Murray, and Cm Punk.

Starz has axed three existing drama series and one upcoming project.
The network has binned Heels, Run The World and Blindspotting as well as not moving forward with The Venery of Samantha Bird.
Heels, Run The World and Blindspotting all aired two seasons and The Venery of Samantha Bird paused production in May due to the strikes with two episodes left to film.

Starz is canceling four of its series, Variety has learned exclusively. Specifically, “Heels,” “Run the World,” and “Blindspotting” will not get new seasons at the cable network, while “The Venery of Samantha Bird” Season 1 is being scrapped without airing.
“Heels,” “Run the World,” and “Blindspotting” all recently aired their second season at Starz, while “The Venery of Samantha Bird” was in production on its first season. Production was shut down, however, at the onset of the WGA strike. It was reported at the time that only two episodes of the first season were left to shoot.
“The Venery of Samantha Bird” was to star Katherine Langford as the title character. Per the official logline, “Samantha, while visiting family in New England, reconnects with her childhood sweetheart and falls headlong into a seemingly perfect storybook romance. But the couple’s picture-perfect love story isn’t as sweet as it seems on the surface.

Starz announced the cancellation of four of its series, including “Blindspotting,” “Heels,” “Run the World” and “The Venery of Samantha Bird,” TheWrap has learned.
An individual with knowledge of the decisionmaking told TheWrap that the shows “unfortunately did not find a large enough audience” to be renewed for more episodes. A decision has yet to be made on the series “Minx,” which aired its Season 2 finale on Sept. 8.
The decision to remove the shows from the slate came after strong consideration, and per the insider, the network hopes to work with Rafael Casal (“Blindspotting”), Daveed Diggs (“Blindspotting”), Rachelle Williams-Benary (“Run the World”) and Mike O’Malley (“Heels”) in the future. Each of these shows have all aired their second seasons.
“The Venery of Samantha,” starring Katherine Langford and created by Anna Moriarty, only had two more episodes of its first season left to film, but the writers’ and actors’ strikes impacted its cancellation.

Starz’s Heels spent season two building up the tension heading into a massive showdown between the Duffy Wrestling League (Dwl) and Florida Wrestling Dystopia (Fwd). The build-up pays off with season two episode eight – the season finale – and the arrival of “Harmageddon,” an epic event pitting the wrestling rivals against each other in the ring. The night was supposed to be a huge win for the Fwd; however, it didn’t go as scripted, and the result was season two ending on a huge cliffhanger.
Now the question is, will Starz renew the drama for a third season or leave fans hungering for answers? Season two’s ratings never reached season one levels, making it unlikely the show will return.

We’re halfway through September, which means the most entertaining show on TV is back: Apple TV+’s “The Morning Show.”
The Emmy-winning drama starring Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon returned this week for its 10-episode third season, which picks up two years after the events of the Season 2 finale. Naturally, this means big changes are happening, not just at the fictional network within the show, which is struggling after launching a streaming service right as the pandemic hit the U.S. (the series loves its “ripped-from-the-headlines” approach to storytelling), but for the actual show as well. Emmy winner Jon Hamm joins the cast as tech billionaire Paul Marks, who takes an interest in Uba (and perhaps a little bit more), while Nicole Beharie portrays new “Morning Show” anchor Chris Hunter. The first two episodes are currently streaming on Apple TV+, and with so much drama already beginning to unfold,...

Starz’s Heels season two episode seven set up the huge showdown between the Duffy Wrestling League and Florida Wrestling Dystopia that will take place in episode eight, the season finale. Episode seven found the Fwd and the Dwl vying for the attention of a Continuum bigwig, with the Fwd getting the upper hand, at least for now. The season’s penultimate episode also saw the Duffy squad pulling together as a family.
And now, the recap:
Ace (Alexander Ludwig) is concentrating on getting his mind, body, and spirit in shape as episode seven begins. But as Ace improves himself, Willie (Mary McCormack) appears to be spiraling down, taking out her anger and frustration on her daughter and husband. She’s been staying late at the Dome every night, and her husband’s fed up with her behavior.

Starz’s Heels season two episode six opens with a brief rundown of what’s happening in the Fwd and Dwl. The wrap-up ends with Ace (Alexander Ludwig) working on a vision board while his mom (correctly) points out that he’s been acting weird recently.
Ace explains that he’s examined his life, and he’s decided he needs room to just reflect and think.
Jack (Stephen Amell), Staci (Alison Luff), and the newly enlightened Ace meet with Brooks Rizzo (Josh Segarra) to discuss his streaming service. After Jack thanks him for making the trek all the way to Duffy, Brooks confirms Continuum needs to grow its subscriber base in the lead-up to a merger with a larger company. Professional wrestling has a huge audience that Continuum would like to tap into.

Diego (Robbie Ramos) reminds everyone that in order to be a team, they have to know what’s going on. But, apparently, Jack wanted to keep the debut of The Condamned a secret to increase the shock factor.

Not everyone’s upset about what went down. Big Jim (Duke Davis Roberts) welcomes his buddy back and promises he’s there as a shoulder to lean on if Ace (Alexander Ludwig) needs it.

Starz’s Heels season two episode four begins with a confirmation that Jack (Stephen Amell) and Staci (Alison Luff) aren’t just going through the paces, they are legitimately back together. Jack even asks for Staci’s opinion on what to do about the Gully situation, and she sides with Willie and Bill, believing Jack will have to make a deal. Or, maybe he can just apologize.
Jack and Staci’s houseguest, Ace (Alexander Ludwig), is totally confused about what to do next. He’s supposed to be long gone – off to bigger and better things – and yet here he is, back in Duffy. Jack reminds him he’s important to the Dwl and vows to work with him as equals. Ace is, understandably, skeptical and wants to put wrestling behind him. (Jack’s sympathetic to Ace’s needs…for once.

Starz’s Heels season two episode three is titled “Discord,” but a more appropriate title would be “Redemption.” Jack sees the light and realizes he’s his own worst enemy, while Ace has a creepy nightmare visit from his dead dad that sets him back on the path to Duffy.
We kick off episode three with a brief flashback to a young Jack getting a whipping from his mom for snatching a piece of cake. Apparently, the incident left a lasting impression and was just one example of the abuse he suffered at her hands.
Flash-forward to current events, and Jack (Stephen Amell) pays a brief visit to his mom’s house to grab her phone and to announce that he’s concluded that if he and Ace kill each other, it’ll be all her fault.

[This story contains spoilers from Heels season two, episode two, “The Journey is the Obstacle.”]
In one fell swoop, Heels star Kelli Berglund stole the show and the championship belt.
Created by Michael Waldron and run by Mike O’Malley, Heels is the professional wrestling world’s answer to Friday Night Lights, as Jack Spade (Stephen Amell) and his younger brother Ace Spade (Alexander Ludwig) are in a feud over their late father’s small-town Georgia wrestling promotion, Duffy Wrestling League (Dwl). Considering that both brothers are equally to blame for their fractured relationship, Berglund’s character, Crystal Tyler, quickly became the sympathetic fan favorite in their stead. After all, she began the acclaimed series in the thankless role of Ace’s valet, while also having an undefined toxic relationship with the younger Spade brother.
As season one progressed, it became clear that Crystal was not only a wrestling enthusiast, but also a highly skilled wrestler in her own right. And in the finale of the first season,...

Before diving into a recap of Starz’s Heels season two episode two, let’s take a brief look at what went down in the season two premiere.
Season two episode one spent most of the hour with a flashback to the events immediately following Tom Spade’s suicide. Heels fans learned more about Jack and Ace’s relationship, and that Ace (Alexander Ludwig) finally convinced Jack (Stephen Amell) to allow him to enter the ring for the first time. Ace made his wrestling debut during a special one-night-only tribute to his father’s memory.
It turned out that Ace is a natural in the ring.
Episode one also briefly caught up with the celebration in the aftermath of the season one final’s championship match at the South Georgia State Fair that found Bunny transforming from valet to belt holder.

After coming to blows in the Heels Season 1 finale, Jack and Ace remained estranged in this week’s premiere.

However, an upset Ace — who found out his brother humiliated him in front of the whole town — stormed out of the arena and drove off into the night. Sports dramas are familiar to the television landscape, and are often beloved. Fans have leaned into series like “Glow,” “All American,” and even the mid-2000s cult classic “Friday Night Lights.” Yet it’s not the competitive action that keeps audiences pulled in weekly, or amid hours-long binges: It’s the characters and the worlds carefully crafted around them.
It’s been nearly two years since the Season 1 finale of the Michael Waldron-created series “Heels” aired. Set in the fictional town of Duffy, Georgia, “Heels” follows brothers Jack (Stephen Amell) and Ace Spade (Alexander Ludwig), the stars of the Duffy Wrestling League (Dwl). The league and its dilapidated dome are the life’s work of the Spade brothers’ late father, Tom (David James Elliot). Jack has struggled to keep Tom’s fledgling dream and business alive in his absence.

If you thought the chances of the Duffy Wrestling League succeeding would increase on Heels Season 2, the latest trailer will probably dash those hopes.
Starz on Monday unveiled a new sneak peek at the next chapter of the Stephen Amell and Alexander Ludwig drama, and it teases lots of tension for everyone involved.
The premium cabler previously teased the second season with a trailer earlier this month, but the latest footage hints at plenty of big swings in the storytelling department.
Heels Season 1 was a big success story, and with fans waiting almost two years for fresh episodes, there are high expectations to deliver a satisfying follow-up season.
A small-town sports drama series based on a wrestling league in rural Georgia, Heels is aptly named after the wrestling term for a villain or antagonist.
"Most stories center around heroes vs. villains, but in wrestling, it's faces vs. heels," the logline teases.

The official trailer for “Heels” Season 2 is finally here, and it’s clear we’re in for an emotional ride.
The sophomore season, which premieres July 28 on Starz, picks up after Jack Spade (Stephen Amell) has been through the ringer in his personal life after parting ways with his family. Meanwhile, his brother, Ace (Alexander Ludwig), is nowhere to be found.
“Who am I? A man who’s wife and son have left him and doesn’t know where is brother is,” Spade says in the trailer. “I don’t know what I have to do to find the guy that I was before, [but] I’m gonna figure it out.”
While Jack — and fans of the family-owned wrestling organization — question how to move forward without his brother at his side, Jack leans on his Duffy Wrestling League (Dwl) family as the group battles outside threats and Jack steps back into the ring.
