Hulu announced on Wednesday that Frankie Quiñones’ first hour-long comedy special will debut on the streamer under its Hularious banner.

Directed and produced by Emmy and Golden Globe winner Ali Wong (Beef), with Irwin Entertainment also on board to produce, the special will launch domestically on Hulu and Disney+ internationally. No other details, including a release date, have been disclosed. The special will be the last featured over the course of Hularious’ first year.

The news comes just weeks before Hulu rolls out its ambitious stand-up initiative, which it has cheekily titled “Hularious.” Jim Gaffigan will serve as the brand’s guinea pig, with his new special, Jim Gaffigan: The Skinny, kicking it off Nov. 22. The comedy hour will be executive produced by Peyton Manning’s Omaha Productions banner. The one-hour special will pay tribute to McMahan’s southern roots, and it was filmed over two sold-out nights at the historic Fox Theatre in Atlanta, where McMahan wrapped The Comeback Tour.

Breadwinner contains material like the pressure of McMahan’s financial support, the perils of being a golf widow, planning a wedding on an overblown budget, relating to in-laws and more.

Though a premiere date is being kept under wraps, the veteran comic has inked a deal for her next hour of standup. It marks Kirson’s second special.

“I am honored to be a part of the Disney family and that Hulu has chosen to feature my next special as part of their comedy initiative,” she said in a statement. “People always ask me ‘is it hard to be a female comedian?’ I always say, ‘I don’t know; you should ask them.’”

The news comes as Hulu makes an aggressive push into the standup space, elbowing its way into an increasingly frothy market that’s been dominated by Netflix in recent years. Jessica Kirson is teaming up with Hulu for her second stand-up special. She joins the streamer’s “Hularious” lineup, which officially bows in November and also includes comedians Bill Burr, Jim Gaffigan, Roy Wood Jr., Atsuko Okatsuka and Ilana Glazer.

The name and launch date of Kirson’s next special, which will premiere on Hulu domestically and Disney+ internationally, will be revealed at a later date.

Roy Wood Jr. is about to launch a new comedy show that will, if all goes well, feature people who aren’t supposed to be funny cracking wise on a network that isn’t known for making people laugh.

“I like comedy in tough places,” quips Wood.

He has found one. CNN — CNN? — will on Saturday launch Wood as host of “Have I Got News For You,” the U.S. version of a U.K. comedy mainstay. In “News,” two teams of comedians, newsmakers, actors and media personalities use news clips and headlines to drum up jokes and gags, all improv-style, though a round of different segments. Amber Ruffin, the actor and late-night writer, and Michael Ian Black, an actor, improv comedian and author, will serve as team captains each week.

One element that might bring the show broader appeal, says Wood, is the desire to get newsmakers — even polarizing ones — to take part.

Saturday Night Live has announced the addition of three cast members, Ashley Padilla, Emil Wakim, and Jane Wickline, ahead of the late-night sketch show’s Season 50 premiere. Chloe Troast, who joined the cast last season, simultaneously announced her departure.

Exclusive: This is quite the break for up-and-coming comedy performers Ashley Padilla, Emil Wakim and Jane Wickline who will get to join NBC’s venerable late-night sketch program Saturday Night Live for its milestone 50th season that will be marked by celebrations, reunions and high profile guests.

The trio will be the three featured players on the show next season. Chloe Troast who was brought in as a featured player last season, is leaving. Meanwhile, after two years as featured players, Marcello Hernandez, Michael Longfellow and Devon Walker are being promoted to the main cast.

Comedian Atsuko Okatsuka is set to debut her sophomore special on Hulu in the U.S. and Disney+ internationally, Disney announced on Tuesday.

Okatsuka is getting into business with Hulu after debuting her first special, The Intruder, on HBO in 2022. While no title or logline for her new hour has been disclosed, she’ll tape it at El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood on Saturday November 9 as part of a newly added date on her 2024 “Full Grown Tour,” produced by Live Nation. Further information, including its premiere date, is forthcoming.

Okatsuka’s “Full Grown Tour” continues September 13 with 20 dates across the U.S. and Canada. Presale tickets for the LA shows will be available beginning September 4 at 10 a.m. local with general on-sale beginning September 6 at the same time.

Hulu’s stand-up push continues with Ilana Glazer.

The Broad City alum will debut her second special, Human Magic, on the platform Dec. 20. The hour, which Rotten Science and Starrpix will produce and Jeff Tomsic is set to direct, was taped in early May in Toronto. It will air internationally on Disney+.

The new hour arrives a month after Jim Gaffigan’s November special, which will kick off Hulu’s monthly stand-up initiative, which it’s dubbed “Hularious.” The platform has also lined up hours from Bill Burr, Daily Show vet Roy Wood Jr. and, pending deals, Sebastian Maniscalco, Atsuko Okatsuka and Jessica Kirson. As part of the new effort, Hulu will also launch a curated collection of licensed specials, a mix of iconic hours and recent releases.

“The mantra is very much quality over quantity,” Hulu’s head of scripted content Jordan Helman said recently of the platform’s curated approach.

Ilana Glazer is ready to share more of her comedy with the world, this time on Hulu.

The “Broad City” and “Babes” actress will debut “Human Magic” on Dec. 20. This will be her second stand-up special after “The Planet Is Burning” debuted on Amazon’s Prime Video in January 2020.

Glazer is now the fourth comedian tapped for Hulu’s new Hularious comedy brand, formerly known as Laughing Now, which promises one special a month. Starting in November with Jim Gaffigan, Bill Burr and Roy Wood Jr. are also set to tape upcoming specials for the streamer.

Meanwhile, “Human Magic” was taped in early May at Toronto’s Elgin and Winter Garden Theatre Centre. Jeff Tomsic directed, with Rotten Science and Starrpix producing. It will air internationally on Disney+.
