The new Todd Phillips film is about a pair of Jokers and this week’s film quiz focuses on other movie duos.
They say it takes two to tango, but no one ever says it takes two to Tango And Cash. Why would they? Stupid thing to say. Anyway, October’s first big release Joker: Folie à Deux sees Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker joined by Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn for an all-singing, all-dancing sequel – just don’t call it a musical! And as Warner Bros also announced the animated Robin movie Dynamic Duo earlier this week, we’re quizzing for two.
As always, there are three rounds and 30 questions in total. Once you’ve completed today’s film quiz, you’ll find a link to a separate post with the correct answers at the bottom of this post. This is just for fun, but please let us know how...

As Twisters blows into cinemas worldwide, this week’s film quiz includes some questions about weather on film…
In summer 2024, UK weather has been as unpredictable as ever, which is a fine hook for a Twisters-adjacent quiz about movie weather. Now showing, this week’s film quiz features questions on animated heroes, real-life villains, and fictional movies within movies.
There are a couple of movies about making movies out now – MaXXXine sees Mia Goth’s aspiring movie star bag a role in a 1980s horror sequel, while Fly Me To The Moon has Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum stage moon-landing footage as a Plan B for NASA in 1969. Accordingly, this week’s film quiz has a whole round on fictional films within real films – think more The Purple Rose Of Cairo in The Purple Rose Of Cairo than “Argo”in Argo.

Tony Robinson’s much loved 1990s Cbbc sitcom Maid Marian And Her Merry Men is heading to the stage this year, here are the details.
Though Tony Robinson is best known as dim-witted servant Baldrick alongside Rowan Atkinson across several iterations of Blackadder, to a certain generation he is creator, writer as well as playing the role of the Sherrif of Nottingham in Maid Marian and Her Merry Men. A classic show, which ran for four series on the BBC from 1989 to 1994.
For kids TV trivia fans, it is thanks to Maid Marian that Russell T Davies got his start in writing television drama.
Funding and studio time was booked for Maid Marian in 1991, but it was put on hiatus. Davies submitted his script for children’s sci-fi serial Dark Season to both the Head of Cbbc and to Granada. Both were interested, but Cbbc’s offer was better, Maid...

Film Quiz Fridays are here again! In weeks to come, we’ve got rounds themed around Jason Statham films, movie musicals, and the Oscars, as well as the usual random movie trivia. But today’s theme is inspired by films like Next Goal Wins – not the Taika Waititi football comedy (read Simon’s 3-star review here) but the 2014 documentary of the same name – which has a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Older readers will remember we did a quiz on the 0% club last year, but this time, we’re swinging the other way.

“House of the Dragon” star Fabien Frankel plots to steal an expensive painting alongside Greta Bellamacina (“This England”) in a trailer for their new art heist feature “Venice at Dawn.”
Frankel plays Dixon while Bellamacina is Sally. After the duo have a drunken encounter at a bar, they come up with a plan to swipe a costly piece of art from Sally’s ex-boyfriend Stephen (“After Life” star Tom Basden). “There’s this huge house and he owns this painting which is worth millions of pounds – money, money, money,” Sally tells Dixon. “Tomorrow the house is going to be empty, the painting will be there and we could steal it.” Naturally high-jinks ensue.
YouTube turned actor Tanya Burr (“Twist”) co-stars as Stephen’s best friend while actor and director Celyn Jones (“The Almond and the Seahorse”) leads a Greek chorus of bumbling detectives as Detective Symonds.

To celebrate the release of Giddy Stratospheres which will be available on digital download from the 19th July, we have a digital download copy up for grabs courtesy of Bulldog Film Distribution.
Giddy Stratospheres follows Daniel (Jamal Franklin) and Lara (Laura Jean Marsh), indie-kid soul mates in the centre of the storm of guitars and broken glass that was the 00’s indie music scene. Beautiful, mischievous, dishevelled, and on a quest for the ultimate euphoria and excitement that comes with dancing and thrashing on the front row to your new favourite song by your new favourite band. They don’t miss a gig. They don’t miss a beat. But as the night draws to a close, a darkness looms in the shadows of the after party. And the next day Lara can’t quite work out why Daniel is so desperate for her to remember the events of the night before.

Photo: ‘Love Spreads’/Film Shed Writer-director Jamie Adams heads the newest film from Dignity Film Finance in ‘Love Spreads’, a supposed comedy about fictional band Glass Hearts. Though advertised as a comedy, ‘Love Spreads’ leans more toward a traditional drama with elements of documentary-style filmmaking involved. The movie centers around the three girls in Glass Hearts, along with their manager Mark (Nick Helm). The entire plot rarely leaves these girls, specifically their frontwoman Kelly (Alia Shawkat) as she struggles to write their sophomore album. "Well that's what real music is." Gravitas has released an official trailer for an indie rock band comedy titled Love Spreads, the latest from writer / director Jamie Adams. Even though this already opened in the UK last year, it's just now premiering in the US at the 2021 Tribeca Film Festival, before arriving on VOD a few days later (which is not a good sign). It is time to record the all important second album and Glass Heart is breaking in a million pieces. Away from touring and performing the band is not in harmony, and no amount of history in Rockfield Studios is going to solve that. Three very different songwriters, one desperate producer, a label exec and a keyboard collide. The film stars Alia Shawkat, Eiza Gonzales, Chanel Cresswell, Nick Helm, Tara Lee, Dolly Wells, Charlotte Jo Hanbury, and Ruth Ollman. Why does this trailer seem so orange? And...

“Loaded,” the new AMC series about the wacky adventures of overnight British millionaires, is one of the rare comedies that’s better when no one’s laughing. Ostensibly a show about what happens when a group of four men luck into unfathomable riches, one of its frequent missteps is its runtime. Unlike the vast majority of comedies on American airwaves, “Loaded” runs in hourlong increments. Overstaffed, undercooked, and in constant search of a central focus, the series is one of the better arguments for keeping comedies as concise as possible.

AMC has just released a trailer for its new comedy series Loaded. The show looks to be pretty funny and in a very similar vein as HBO's Silicon Valley. The show is based on a popular Israeli series and is about friendship and how money can put them to the test.
The cast includes Jim Howick, Samuel Anderson, Jonny Sweet and Nick Helm. They play a group of tech entrepreneurs and childhood friends that have recently made a fortune after selling their gaming company. They become instant millionaires and are forced to deal with the struggles that come along with becoming rich overnight.
Even though the series seems to be very similar to Silicon Valley, I would imagine that there will be plenty that helps it stand on its own two feet. What do you think?
Loaded is AMC just slated to premiere at 10 Pm Monday, July 17, following Preacher.

New Channel 4 comedy Loaded is a very funny look at male friendship, money and success, with a strong cast and real depth…
When I meet the cast of Channel 4’s Loaded, it’s at the tail-end of a stretch of interviews during which Samuel Anderson, Nick Helm, Jim Howick and Jonny Sweet have been asked approximately four times an hour what, if they each suddenly received £15m as their app-designing characters do in the show, they’d spend it on. Leave it to the Brits! The BAFTA nominations were announced and they gave us a slightly different look at the awards season! For instance, Tom McCarthy's "Spotlight," the leading Oscar contender in the U.S. just received 3 noms including Best Film, Supporting Actor for Mark Ruffalo and Original Screenplay. No Director nomination for McCarthy.
Meanwhile, Steven Spielberg's "Bridge of Spies," a handsomely-produced period piece led the pack along with Todd Haynes' "Carol," another handsomely-produced period piece. Both films garnered nine nominations each including Best Picture. "Bridge of Spies" and "Carol" will duke it out with "Spotlight," Alejandro Gonzales Inarritu's "The Revenant" (eight nominations), and Adam McKay's "The Big Short" (five nominations) for the Best Picture trophy.
So where's "Mad Max: Fury Road" and "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" you ask? They're relegated to the technical categories. Apparently, sequels, no matter how great they are, can't compete with originals.

Alan Davies has suggested that his Dave show As Yet Untitled would never be made by the BBC and ITV - who would be too "terrified" to commission it.
The show sees a group of comedians sitting around and chatting about various tales, but the only preparation involved is that the guests bring a story with them.
"It's a dream job for me - I don't have to do any preparation," Davies joked. "I have the same approach I have for Qi - the less I do, the better it is!"
But he went on to say: "You would never get this to fly on the BBC or ITV. They would just be terrified: 'What are you going to say?' 'Don't know.'"
And Davies suggested that there are still some nerves about the show, explaining: "There's a surprising amount of talk about how many stories they should bring,...
