Noah Burgan is a young transgender woman from Denver, Colorado. For as long as Noah can remember, art has always been a big part of her life. It began with the first "Starry Night" painting in Kindergarten and evolved into an emotional outlet and form of expression when she started high school. Drawing and painting became a way that Noah could journal her thoughts and express in images the words she was not comfortable speaking. The pictures she drew became part of her voice and was the message she desperately wanted to be heard. Finding her voice in art has become part of her journey and her transition. Her imagery gives her courage and a platform to express herself and feel seen and heard. Struggling to find beauty in herself, she draws images that help her feel represented in her honest viewpoint. Ideally, she hopes that her work will capture her feelings and stir feelings and emotions in her audience.
In addition to drawing and painting, Noah is a self-taught seamstress. She taught herself to sew at 12 years old on an old sewing machine of her Nana's. She imagined making clothes for herself that would be more affordable, sustainable, and affirming as a young transgender girl because early on, she struggled to find clothes that were suitable during her transition. In addition, sewing became a way for Noah to express herself and her vision of fashion and the world around her. She would imagine a design and visualize that image in a pattern. Making her patterns and learning along the way, she would create pieces that told a story. Noah imagines sewing for others so that they can tell their story and her own.
