Anna Howard ACS commenced her career in the Australian Film Industry in 1981.
After studying cinematography at North Sydney TAFE, she became a camera assistant, working for well-known and established cinematographers, including Peter James ACS ASC and Academy Award winners Russell Boyd ACS ASC, Andrew Lesnie ACS ASC and John Seale AM ACS ASC.
In 1996 Anna began working as a cinematographer. She worked with many top directors including Ray Lawrence, Gillian Armstrong and Garth Davis. Anna is known for her subtle but expressive lighting and her ability to work collaboratively with actors. She was awarded ACS accreditation in 2004.
Anna worked on the award-winning Australian TV series Rake (2010) in 2010 and the next year she was nominated for Best Cinematography in the Film Critics Circle of Australia Awards for the film South Solitary (2010), directed by Shirley Barrett.
Her cinematography in Lỗi Của Cơ Thể (2012) was widely praised. Dan Collacott of LF Podcast noted, "The film is beautifully shot within the clinical and snowy surrounds of The Max Planck Institute in Dresden ... full of hauntingly sterile shades of white and grey".
Anna has worked on many feature films, documentaries and commercials in Australia and overseas, winning numerous awards for the lighting and unique images. She is a respected cinematographer and a campaigner for equal opportunities and has sat many times on ACS judging panels along with ACS accreditation panels.
