It will come as no surprise to anyone that there is, and will be more coming, a host of movies, especially horror movies, that have been made centered around the pandemic. The bigger budgeted titles wont be out until next year I’m sure but there’s a whole lot of lower budgeted titles that are releasing as soon as they can. Isolation is one of those films that has been made during the pandemic and during the time of self-isolation and social distancing. Unfortunately any movie like this is going to be compared to the excellent Host and almost definitely come up short.

Karyn Kusama’s latest film sells you the whole seat, but you’ll only need the edge…
Written by Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay, and directed by Kusama (Jennifer’s Body), The Invitation stars Logan Marshall-Green as Will, a man whose ex-wife, Eden, invites him to a dinner party two years after she mysteriously vanished. Eden is acting incredibly strange, at least in Will’s eyes, and peculiar goings-on lead him to suspect that she and her new boyfriend may have sinister intentions for their guests.

Girlfight and Jennifer’s Body director Karyn Kusama is back this year, returning to her low-budget roots with The Invitation, a taut psychological thriller which follows a dinner party with many twists and turns. We’ve heard the less the known is better, but if one would like to indulge further, a full-length trailer has now arrived, along with a great poster.
We said in our review at SXSW, “When you play in the midnight slot of a film festival nowadays, audiences can expect something to go horribly wrong within the world of the movie. So going into The Invitation, without even knowing what it is about, there’s the impending sense things aren’t going to turn out well. Yet even in that environment, it becomes painfully clear that director Karyn Kusama’s latest feature is going to make audiences outside of that context aware of the stakes. As...

I almost want to tell you not to watch this trailer. One of the pleasures of going into "Girlfight" director Karyn Kusama's thriller "The Invitation" is watching it unfold into unexpected directions, and knowing as little as possible as such will reap the biggest rewards when checking out this mostly single-location picture. But if you need just a little bit more to convince you to check it out, then by all means watch it. After breaking out with Girlfight, which we recently named as one of the great boxing movies, Karyn Kusama‘s career has been a curious one, including the Charlize Theron-led Æon Flux and the Diablo Cody-scripted Jennifer’s Body. We’ve heard the less the known is better, but if you must indulge, the first trailer has landed.

I was a bit surprised that "Girlfight" director Karyn Kusama's "The Invitation" didn't inspire more buzz across the festival circuit last year. It's a taut thriller that rewards patience in the first half with an electric back half that pays off the preceding character building. Luckily, the movie has found a home with the folks at Drafthouse, who will get this in front of people who will best appreciate it. The first teaser trailer for the film has landed. The true testament to a slow-burn thriller’s worth is never comprehended until its climax comes to a head and the credits roll. You’ll ask yourself, “Was the payoff worth the journey?” Were the previous events fulfilling enough to warrant such a sluggish pace, or are you still full of tedium and frustration brought on by an overbearing first few acts that can’t be saved by whatever third act twist a filmmaker reaches for? That’s what Karyn Kusama asks in her latest film, The Invitation, which unfortunately falls under the category of slow-burners that haphazardly meander along before finally hitting stride in the final thirty seconds or so of storytelling – an explosive moneyshot after an hour and a half’s worth of drawn-out, creepy dinner party suspense.
Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay script a story of suspense between friends, which starts with nothing but a simple invite.

Welcome to another horror round-up! In this edition, we take a look at new posters for a pair of movies making their premieres in the Midnighters section at the SXSW Film Festival later this month: The Boy (which sounds a little like Stevan Mena's Bereavement) and The Invitation (the new film from Jennifer's Body director Karyn Kusama). We also have details on Descendant, a new spec script from the writer who penned the screenplay adaptation of Clive Barker's The Midnight Meat Train.
The Boy: "It’s the summer of 1989. 9-year-old Ted Henley (Jared Breeze) and his father John (David Morse) are the proprietors of The Mt. Vista Motel, a crumbling resort buried in the mountains of the American West. Since Ted's mother left, John has drifted into despondency—leaving Ted to fend for himself. In this isolation, unchecked by the bounds of parenting, Ted’s darker impulses begin to manifest.

Around this time last year we told you that Jennifer's Body director Karyn Kusama was working on an indie flick titled Invitation, with Luke Wilson attached to star. It seems as if those plans have changed, and we've got the latest casting news for ya today!
The Wrap reports that Prometheus star Logan Marshall-Green (pictured) and "Boston Public" actress Marieh Delfino have accepted the female director's Invitation, which will also co-star Tammy Blanchard, John Carroll Lynch and Michelle Krusiec.
Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi wrote the script, which stars Marshall-Green as a man faced with mounting evidence that something sinister has taken hold of his ex-wife, who is hosting a dinner party that harbors a terrifying agenda.
Delfino will play a UCLA professor in the movie, which Hay and Manfredi are expected to produce with Martha Griffin and Xyz Films.
Production is scheduled to start this month.

I’m a little disturbed because I didn’t think that the new Penance clip on Shock Till You Drop was “the most outrageously brutal scene in movie history.” Is it because I’m a horrible person who should be put down or because I don’t have a penis? I know all guys squirm at stuff like that and I don’t blame them, but this clip was rather boring to me. Penance, directed by Jake Kennedy (Days of Darkness), stars Marieh Delfino (Jeepers Creepers 2) and Eve Mauro (Wicked Lake) as strippers who get invited to a private party which happens to be hosted [...]

Days of Darkness director Jake Kennedy's latest endeavor Penance is now available on DVD and he was kind (?!) enough to pass along what's being touted as "the most outrageously brutal scene in movie history." Is it? Judge for yourself by clicking on the player below and watch leading man Graham McTavish perform a bit of self mutilation that would make Ellen Page in Hard Candy grin. Marieh Delfino ( Jeepers Creepers 2 ) and Eve Mauro ( Wicked Lake ) also star. They play a pair of strippers who get invited to a private party unaware that it's presided over by a maniac (McTavish). The clip tells you how and where you can obtain Penance , so hang in there.

Penance is now available on DVD through
Cheezyflicks - from director Jake Kennedy. The film tackles the multiple real life mutilations of several hundred women in Australia. Except this time poet license is taken by Kennedy to portray gynecologist Reeves as a religious maniac, and self-castrator. Loosely based on true events Penance leaves taste behind to shock the viewer.
The film starts banally enough with protagonist Amelia (Marieh Delfino) applying for a spot on a reality show via camcorder. The shaky camera stays for the whole film, but Amelia changes from a devout mother to a stripper within ten minutes of the intro'. Her child has neurofibromatosis and Amelia needs money quick! So, stripper friend Eve (Alice Amter) comes to her rescue, or triggers her downfall, and soon Amelia is stripping for men like Greeves (Graham McTavish). Greeves is not a man you want to meet if you are female and value sexuality.

Fangoria: What kind of educational background do you have? Jake Kennedy: I was educated in England and went to boarding schools from the age of 10. I then went to university and got a degree in Psychology and Cartography. Very handy!
Fangoria: I know you’ve got a history in the marketing/sales field, how does having that experience help you in the film industry?...

Fango caught up with writer/director Jake (Days Of Darkness) Kennedy, who tipped us off to the new non-work-safe trailer (which you can seen below) for his horror flick Penance. Previously titled The Devil’S Dungeon, produced by Will (Automaton Transfusion) Clevinger and filmed last year in Los Angeles, Penance stars Jeepers Creepers 2’s Marieh Delfino (pictured) as a stripper who falls into the hands of sadistic surgeon (Graham McTavish) with genital mutilation on his mind.
“The title changed from The Devil’S Dungeon to Penance since we believe it has far exceeded our own quality standards in terms of cast, performance and look,” Kennedy tells Fango. “So we wanted to steer away from a B-movie-esque moniker and more toward a cooler, more representative name. Penance means ‘the repentance of one’s sins,’ and that’s exactly what our bad guy is trying to do—and what he’s...
