Disney+ Hotstar’s new extraction drama, The Freelancer, is set across the Middle East, North Africa, and India. Part one of the show, just through four episodes, tells us the story of a mercenary who is desperate to rescue a young 21-year-old woman from an Isis-controlled area. Neeraj Pandey is known for delivering some good stories in this genre. The process of getting information about a particular remote village where the young girl is now stuck and the mercenary’s quest to find a definite route forms the crux of the plot.
Spoilers Ahead
Inayat Khan’s Quest For His Daughter
The Freelancer begins with what seems to be a young woman running away from a group of people. Her escape plan is short-lived when she crashes into the vehicle that is chasing her. This kidnapping of the woman sets the tone of the show. This scene is in the trailer as well.

Neeraj Pandey’s The Freelancer, the brand-new action thriller web series, takes us through a war-torn Syria, which has become one of the most hostile regions of the world. The premise for the thriller series has been adapted from Shirish Thorat’s popular book, A Ticket to Syria. The biggest giveaway here is the nature of the genre. On the surface, The Freelancer is a rescue mission, but at its core, it takes us through the lawlessness of a particular region of the country and the rampant radicalization happening in the name of religion. The tense visuals, coupled with hardcore action sequences, add to the grittiness of the narrative presented in the trailer.
Story and Plot
The trailer for The Freelancer gave us enough of a peek into the world that Neeraj Pandey has created. The abduction of a young girl named Aliya Khan, daughter of intelligence officer Inayat Khan,...

Nothing looms larger in The Who’s artistic mythology than Pete Townshend’s unfinished “Lifehouse” project, a science fiction rock opera motion picture guaranteed to rock the world. Granted, we wouldn’t have Who’s Next (1971) if he completed it, but we can only imagine what the final product might have been on the big screen. Fortunately, there will soon be a way to see for ourselves in a new format.
Image Comics will publish Life House as a graphic novel on Dec. 6, and a vinyl-shaped hardcover will be part of its musical accompaniment: the Who’s Next/Life House box sets, dropping on Sept. 15. The cumulative story is not just for Who fans. The sci-fi community may have a future classic on their hands.
