John Krasinski is a true talent! He made us laugh and proved he could be a comedic actor on The Office. Since then, he's been in more dramatic roles in both film and television. And he's just as good in those projects as well! There's an upcoming one we're excited about and that's Fountain of Youth starring the actor alongside Natalie Portman.
In the Apple Studios and Skydance movie, the two are set to play siblings onscreen. This is the pairing we never knew we needed! Per Deadline, the brother and sister are estranged but decide to work together on a "global heist to find the mythological Fountain of Youth." The two are knowledgable in history, which may give them an advantage in this adventure that will "change their lives - and possibly lead to immortality."

The Office casting director Allison Jones revealed that there were quite a few other major actors in the running to play Michael Scott in the hit NBC comedy series.
Jones stopped by Office Ladies, the podcast hosted by sitcom stars Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey, where she gave insight into the casting process behind the show that still maintains a cult following.
“I remember vividly the first meeting we had with the network when [creator Greg Daniels] had a list of names, and they were like, ‘Let’s try Philip Seymour Hoffman,’ and then, ‘Let’s go for Paul Giamatti or whatever,'” Jones said. She then added that she was “so jaded” she didn’t think either actor would be interested in it because “nobody did TV. Comedy was the bottom of the barrel.”

Mexico is getting its own remake of “The Office.”
“La Oficina” comes from Prime Video, Amazon MGM Studios and Gary “Gaz” Alazraki’s Máquina Vega, the companies announced Wednesday. It will be based off the cult hit BBC series starring Ricky Gervais that blossomed into the U.S. spinoff starring Steve Carell. Alazraki will serve as director and executive producer on the series, with Marcos Bucay as showrunner.
The show takes place in Aguascalientes at a family business called Jabones Olimpo. The office is run by Jerónimo Ponce III and like many bosses in these series, he’s in over his head. The rest of the employees are forced to deal with the headache of working for an unqualified manager.
The series is the latest remake to use the comedy mockumentary format. Prime Video – where “La Oficina” will stream exclusively in Latin America, Brazil and Spain – already launched an Australian version.

It’s been over a decade since Michael Scott and his team of hilarious wholesale employees departed from small screens, but the love is still there. From producing loose leaf to actually using it, here comes The Paper!
Many still regard The Office as the epitome of American comedy. While that is quite the mantle to place the series on, the mockumentary left a lasting impression on the long-standing history of television.
So, it comes as no surprise that the same team behind one of Steve Carell’s career-defining shows would be ready to clock in for another round of deadpan reactions and comedy so dry that it’ll make your measly piece of toast look like a soggy pancake.

“The Office” spinoff cast continues to grow.
The upcoming Peacock series is adding Alex Edelman, Gbemisola Ikumelo and Tim Key to its main cast, with Eric Rahill as a co-star. The still-untitled spinoff stars Domhnall Gleeson and Sabrina Impaccitore as its leads.
Additionally, Ikumelo, Edelman and Rahill are writers for the series. Edelman is off an Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special Emmy win for his HBO comedy special, while Ikumelo won Female Performance in a Comedy Programme BAFTA Award for “Black Ops.”
The newly announced cast members also join Melvin Gregg, Chelsea Frei and Ramona Young. This trio was uniquely announced through the Palisadian-Post based in the Pacific Palisades, California, as the three actors had been shadowing the reporters at the paper in prep for the show.
There remain some unknowns surrounding the new series, but one concrete fact is that it’s set at a newspaper rather than a paper company.

The staff of Peacock’s mockumentary follow-up to The Office is growing.
The show from Office creator Greg Daniels and Michael Koman has added Gbemisola Ikumelo, Alex Edelman, Tim Key and Eric Rahill to its ensemble. They join the previously cast Domhnall Gleeson and Sabrina Impacciatore, along with Melvin Gregg, Chelsea Frei and Ramona Young.

The untitled series will feature the same documentary crew that made Dunder Mifflin famous searching for a new subject when they discover a dying, historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it with volunteer reporters.
Ikumelo won a BAFTA TV Award for best female performance in a comedy for the BBC’s Black Ops.

Coralie Fargeat’s “The Substance” (Mubi) opens in 1,949 U.S./Canada theaters this week. That’s not unusual for a genre film, but it also won best screenplay at the Cannes Film Festival and its distributor is the theatrical division of niche streamer Mubi.
In the year 2024, wide is the new platform. “Conclave” (Focus), “Megalopolis” (Lionsgate), or “The Apprentice” (Briarcliff) will also go wide between now and the end of October. Pre-covid, they would most likely debut in a few New York and Los Angeles theaters.
“The Substance” isn’t a hard sell for a wider release. There’s strong advance interest among cinephiles for the original and gory body-horror story starring Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley. However, it’s a first for Mubi.
Launched as a streaming site, Mubi expanded into the U.S. theatrical market in 2016 with very limited releases for films like “The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Maki.

There is a spin-off coming to Peacock for The Office. However, it won’t include any characters from the original series and won’t even take place at the Dunder Mifflin paper company. However, it will be connected “behind the scenes.”
Here is what you need to know about the upcoming spinoff series and everything we know about it.
What Is The Office On PeacockSpin-Off About?
The Office spin-off series is not about anyone from the original series. At least not exactly. While names like Steve Carell, John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, and Rainn Wilson won’t be back, the people never shown will be. The new spin-off series will have the fictional documentarians who shot the fake documentary about Dunder Mifflin have a new assignment.
Dwight from The Office / YouTube
After “finishing” their work at Dunder Mifflin, the documentary crew has taken on a new documentary task at a different company.

Peacock’s new “The Office” series announced three new cast members Tuesday — and revealed they have some real-world know-how in the field.
Melvin Gregg, Chelsea Frei and Ramona Young are all set to star in the upcoming series alongside the previously announced Domhnall Gleeson and Sabrina Impacciatore.
Unconventionally, the place that broke the casting news was the Palisidian Post based in the Pacific Palisades, California. The trio of new cast had been shadowing the reporters at the paper in prep for the show.
Unlike the original U.S. series, which was set at a fictional paper-selling company called Dunder Mifflin, the new show is set at a newspaper. It’s set in the same universe as the original show. Here’s an official logline:

The staff of the fictional newspaper in Peacock’s follow-up to The Office is growing.
The as yet untitled series from U.S. Office creator Greg Daniels and Michael Koman (Nathan for You) has added Melvin Gregg, Chelsea Frei and Ramona Young to its cast. They join Domhnall Gleeson and Sabrina Impacciatore in the ensemble.
The series, which Peacock greenlit in May, is set in the same world as The Office and, like that show, will be a mockumentary. The show’s description reads, “The documentary crew that immortalized Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch is in search of a new subject when they discover a dying historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it with volunteer reporters.”

The new iteration of “The Office” at Peacock is adding three new cast members.
Melvin Gregg, Chelsea Frei and Ramona Young will all star in the series alongside previously announced cast members Domhnall Gleeson and Sabrina Impacciatore.
The new castings were first reported by the Palisadian-Post in Pacific Palisades, CA, as the actors were shadowing reporters at the publication in preparation for their roles.
As has been previously reported, the show is not a reboot or spinoff of “The Office,” but rather a new mockumentary show with a new cast set in the same universe. It is rumored to be currently titled “The Paper” but no official title has been announced. The official logline states:

Peacock continues to staff up its new Office. Melvin Gregg, Chelsea Frei and Ramona Young have been cast in Peacock’s upcoming Untitled Greg Daniels/Michael Koman mockumentary which is set in the same universe as Daniels’ NBC hit The Office.
The trio join previously cast Domhnall Gleeson and Sabrina Impacciatore.
In the Office followup, created and executive produced by Daniels and Koman, the documentary crew that immortalized Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch is in search of a new subject when they discover a dying historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it with volunteer reporters.
As part of their research for the roles, Gregg, Frei and Young recently shadowed staffers at the Palisadian-Post, a 96-year-old bi-weekly local newspaper serving Los Angeles’ Pacific Palisades area which announced the trio’s castings in a story about their visit.

Like science fiction and fantasy, films in the horror genre have permission to bend the laws of reality, as long as audiences can still follow the story. No one is too concerned that "Halloween" slasher Michael Meyers is somehow invincible and impossible to kill, because that lore was established in the first film and continued throughout the confusing, timeline-erasing franchise. What's not to understand?
On the other hand, plenty of films over the years have left audiences scratching their heads as they exit the theater. Is Leonardo DiCaprio dreaming or awake at the end of "Inception" and does it really matter? Was anything in "Mulholland Drive" real? You might give yourself a headache pondering the answers to those knotty questions.
Horror movies tend to use this kind of uncertainty to frighten viewers, leaving them unsettled and disturbed as the credits roll. This is the worst kind of perplexing ending, because you're not only confused,...

A mysterious, reclusive CEO, Nathan (Oscar Isaac) — who also builds humanoid robots with artificial intelligence — is visited by his employee Caleb (Domhnall Gleeson) after the latter wins a company-held competition. This period of corporate collaboration is initially marked by conversations about AI consciousness and the thresholds marked for the robots to be considered human, as Nathan tasks Caleb with determining whether his latest model, Ava (Alicia Vikander), has developed genuine consciousness. With every conversation with Ava, Caleb is convinced that something sinister is at work here, with the other robot models exhibiting proof of Nathan's controlling and abusive nature. Just as Caleb makes a choice to determine whether Ava can be considered human, the heart of "Ex Machina" unravels in unprecedented ways.
Alex Garland's "Ex Machina" wrestles with the age-old question of what makes us human, and whether humanity is an inherent or learned instinct that manifests with classic nature-nurture conundrums.

Alex Garland’s 2014 sci-fi thriller Ex Machina could almost have starred Jake Gyllenhaal. “It was never gonna work,” its producer has said.
Terrifyingly almost a decade old, writer-director Alex Garland’s Ex Machina might have starred Jake Gyllenhaal – mostly so it could secure international funding. This tidbit of film history was revealed at a post-screening Q&a at the Edinburgh Film Festival on the 18th August, with Garland joined by producer Andrew Macdonald for the occasion.
“The sales companies wanted us to cast Jake Gyllenhaal because he was bankable and they could sell foreign territories,” Macdonald said, as reported by Deadline. “That would have changed the whole film.”
Unfortunately, Macdonald didn’t elaborate on who exactly Gyllenhaal would have played in Garland’s claustrophobic piece about a sentient android, its billionaire inventor and a young computer nerd who winds up falling in love with it. Our money’s on the billionaire,...

The sequel to 28 Years Later begins production today as producer Andrew Macdonald and writer Alex Garland talked about what will hopefully be a trilogy and their enduring partnership during an on-stage talk at the Edinburgh International Film Festival (Eiff) on Sunday, August 18.
“The first one [in the trilogy] is 28 Years Later, Alex has written them both [28 Years Later and its sequel], Danny directed [28 Years Later and] has finished shooting,” said Macdonald, who is also chair of Eiff. “We’re just about to start tomorrow morning [August 19] part two, directed by Nia DaCosta, and we hope there is going to be a third part.

Filmmaker Alex Garland was joined by his longtime collaborator and producer Andrew Macdonald in Edinburgh to ponder their career-spanning relationship, favorite projects and upcoming 28 Days zombie trilogy.
The duo, who have teamed up on titles such as The Beach (2000), 28 Days Later (2002), Ex Machina (2014) and most recently, Civil War (2024), spoke at an Edinburgh International Film Festival event on Sunday to a jam-packed room of industry professionals (who were hanging on to every word).
Garland and Macdonald discussed how they came to work together, as well as a few rows they’ve had over the years. Garland, who began his career as a novelist with The Beach before pivoting into screenwriting and, eventually, directing, admitted that while he doesn’t particularly enjoy directing, there is one film — his debut directorial feature — that he considers his top pick from an impressive résumé.

If ever there was an actor who could convince you he burned his foot on a George Foreman Grill, it’s Steve Carell. And while Michael Scott has several Dundies to his name, Carell never won a single Emmy for playing the beloved Dunder Mifflin boss, something that still bugs the cast of The Office.
There isn’t a whole lot that gets the Creed Bratton character worked up, but the actor (also Creed Bratton) remains dumbfounded that Steve Carell didn’t take home a Primetime Emmy for The Office despite six nominations. As he put it, “There were other people who were against him – there was no comparison. That’s a travesty. So that’s still a bone of contention. I’m chewing it, boys, I’m gnawing on it.” As for who Carell lost to, there’s Tony Shaloub for Monk, Ricky Gervais for Extras, Alec Baldwin for...

The almost-cast list for the character of Michael Scott on The Office (US) is long and illustrious. In the run up to filming the remake’s pilot episode, Better Call Saul’s Bob Odenkirk was in contention for the part, as were Oscar-nominee Paul Giamatti and Oscar-winner Philip Seymour Hoffman. US comedy stars Patton Oswalt, Adam Scott, Rainn Wilson and more all were auditioned (see the evidence here), before Steve Carrell made the role undeniably his own.
Another name to add to that already starry list? Ricky Gervais.
The Office co-creator and star was quick to rubbish the idea, as he told British TV producers Peter Fincham and Jon Plowman in a 2021 episode of BBC comedy podcast What’s Funny About…, but was apparently offered the remake’s lead role in very early discussions. Gervais described getting his first phonecall from US producer Ben Silverman about a potential remake, and...

Looking for some exciting MCU news to liven up your Friday morning? Look no further! Yes, the MCU — that's the M3GAN Cinematic Universe, of course — is branching out. With M3GAN 2.0 already under construction, Deadline are reporting that Blumhouse and Atomic Monster are hard at work on SOULM8TE, a 90s style erotic thriller spin-off film to be directed by You Are Not My Mother's Kate Dolan.
James Wan, Ingrid Bisu, and Rafael Jordan have devised the story for SOULM8TE, with Dolan rewriting the film's latest draft. Per Deadline's reporting, the plot for this one will follow a man who gets an AI android to help cope with his wife's death, only for the bot to turn deadly. It's an intriguing premise that calls to mind Black Mirror's brilliant Hayley Atwell and Domhnall Gleeson episode 'Be Right Back' (only more murderous). And given the emotional rawness...

The "M3GAN" universe is expanding beyond the pint-sized killer bestie for children, and giving something wild as hell for adult viewers who need something a little stronger than a cartwheel and a creepy rendition of David Guetta and Sia's "Titanium" to give them a good scare. As was announced today, Blumhouse Productions and James Wan's Atomic Monster are currently developing "SOULM8TE," a 1990s-style erotic thriller "with a new technological twist." We have been in a drought of good erotic thrillers for years, so this announcement is exciting, overdue, and exactly the type of project Blumhouse needs to get audiences hyped after this lackluster 2024. Here's the film's very intriguing synopsis:
In "SOULM8TE," a man acquires an Artificially Intelligent android to cope with the loss of his recently deceased wife. In an attempt to create a truly sentient partner, he inadvertently turns a harmless lovebot into a deadly soulmate.

When Covid hit a little over four years, Creed Bratton’s entire life shut down. He couldn’t play gigs, book any TV or film work, appear at fan conventions for The Office (he played Dunder Mifflin’s resident weirdo across all nine seasons of the show) or even see his granddaughters. Just about the only thing he could do was write songs, which he’s finally going to share with the world Sept. 27 with the release of his new LP Tao Pop.

A follow-up to The Office was officially given a series order by Peacock last month, and while Steve Carell won’t be reprising his role as Michael Scott, he did have some advice for new star Domhnall Gleeson.
Steve Carell and Domhnall Gleeson starred together in FX’s limited series The Patient, so when Gleeson was trying to decide whether he should take The Office gig, he reached out to Carell. “I know Domhnall Gleeson – who I did ‘The Patient’ with – is going to be one of the leads. I know that for sure,” Carell told Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show. “He’s an excellent actor. And he actually called me and asked, you know, ‘Should I do this? Is this something… Did you enjoy it?’ I said, ‘Of course.’“

Before taking on a role in the new The Office spinoff, Domhnall Gleeson sought advice from Steve Carell.
While appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the actor who played Michael Scott in the NBC workplace comedy revealed Gleeson reached out to him.
“I know Domhnall Gleeson, who I did The Patient with, is going to be one of the leads. I know that for sure,” Carell told the late-night show host. “He’s an excellent actor.”
He continued, “He actually called me and asked, you know, ‘Should I do this? Did you enjoy it?'” The actor added, “He’s great.”
Fallon brought up the subject of The Office asking Carell if he knew that a spinoff was in the works.
“Yeah, and I don’t know if you know this — it’s gonna be all the original cast. I’m in it!” Carell joked.

Steve Carell knows a thing or two about running an office. Or The Office, we should say.
The man formerly known as Michael Scott revealed that actor Domhnall Gleeson, who is set to star in the upcoming spinoff of The Office, reached out to Carell before he said yes to the role. (The two recently starred together in the FX limited series The Patient.)

Steve Carell will not be starring in the new iteration of “The Office” coming to Peacock, but he did encourage Domhnall Gleeson to sign on to star. The two actors acted together in FX’s 2022 limited series “The Patient,” which earned Carell a Screen Actors Guild award nomination. Gleeson, meanwhile, was nominated at the Golden Globes and Critics’ Choice Awards.
“I know Domhnall Gleeson – who I did ‘The Patient’ with – is going to be one of the leads. I know that for sure,” Carell told Jimmy Fallon during a recent interview on “The Tonight Show.” “He’s an excellent actor. And he actually called me and asked, you know, ‘Should I do this? Is this something… Did you enjoy it?’ I said, ‘Of course.'”
Gleeson is headlining “The Office” spinoff alongside “The White Lotus” Season 2 breakout Sabrina Impacciatore. Production on the new series is expected to begin in July.
