- Often played Army officers, Doctors and business CEO types.
- Often portrayed Judges, on both the big and small screen.
- American character actor with stage experience. On Broadway in 'Joan of Lorraine' (1946-1947) and 'The Teahouse of the August Moon' (1953-1956). Saw action in Europe during World War II and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Had an extensive career in films and television, often playing judges, doctors, officers and other authority figures.
- Hobbs, Richard Masur and Mary Kay Place are among the few actors to have appeared in Mary Tyler Moore (1970), All in the Family (1971) and M*A*S*H (1972).
- Should have been a member of the AMA. He played 34 doctors on screen, including twice as a veterinarian and once each as a medical examiner and coroner.
- Perhaps best remembered as the lovestruck Hotel Clerk who imagines Ruth Gordon to be a beach-running Bo Derek in the Clint Eastwood comedy Any Which Way You Can.
