NBCUniversal may have kicked off TV’s upfront week with the Wicked trailer, Snoop Dogg, and adorable penguins, but it closed Monday with a more dedicated pitch to one of its marquee divisions: It’s Spanish-language business Telemundo.
Held inside The Shed’s eight-story glass-encased McCourt space, Telemundo focused its tight presentation on its recent ratings wins over arch-rival TelevisaUnivision, with some not so subtle jabs at its competitor.
“We constantly change and give our audiences what they want, while others continue to do the same thing, night after night, week after week, year after year,” Telemundo’s new chairman, Luis Fernandez, told the crowd.
“We are known for being innovators, and filling the void of content to represent Latinos from all walks of life,” added Cesar Conde, the head of the NBCU News Group who also oversees Telemundo. “No other media company can do that because we are the...

In one of his first big moves as chairman of NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises, Luis Fernandez has restructured Telemundo Studios, promoting Ronald Day and installing veteran exec Javier Pons in a key role.
Day has been upped to President, Entertainment and Chief Content Officer and will continue to report to Fernandez. Pons, who has decades of production and management experience at major media companies in Spain, Mexico and France, has been named EVP of the studio arm.
The restructuring streamlines all scripted content production under the Telemundo Studios umbrella. Day will expand his responsibilities beyond the network’s entertainment programming and unscripted content. His new portfolio will also include Telemundo Studios, comprising the development and production of all scripted content for linear as well as owned and third-party streaming platforms. Pons, in his newly created role, will be responsible for all scripted productions for the Telemundo network and streaming platforms, reporting to Day.

NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises Chairman Luis Fernandez is spearheading an executive shuffle and a restructuring of Telemundo Studios in a bid to amp up the company’s scripted content for both linear and streaming platforms.
“At a time when Telemundo is the most-watched network in prime time, we are super-charging our scripted content production under one strong brand: Telemundo Studios,” said Fernandez who returned in December to Telemundo where he was previously head of the news division for six years before taking a hiatus.
“For almost two decades, Telemundo has led in the production of Spanish-language content made by Hispanics for Hispanics. With this streamlined structure, we are doubling down on our commitment to serve the Latino community with the best scripted content across all platforms for years to come,” he added.

Telemundo is restructuring its entertainment studios in an effort to produce more scripted content for its platforms. The new structure will see the Spanish-language media company merge its linear and streaming studios into one combined unit called Telemundo Studios. The move unifies the streaming studio, which was launched in 2021, with the more traditional studio business under a single roof.
NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises chairman Luis Fernandez unveiled the new structure Thursday.

Brazilian football legend Pelé passed away at the age of 82 on December 29, 2022. The sad news came less than two weeks after Lionel Messi held aloft the trophy at the Qatar 2022 Word Cup, eliminating any doubt that he deserves his place in the conversation about who is the greatest footballer of all time. Yet for some, the Emir's insistence on honoring the Argentine captain with the traditional bisht was an unwelcome reminder of the controversial venue for the tournament, while his compatriot Diego Maradona's legacy will always be tainted by the "Hand of God." Meanwhile, Pelé remains synonymous with the world's favorite sport at its most exuberant and uninhibited.Although it's been over 50 years since he last played for the Seleção, Pelé in the brilliant gold and blue of Brazil at the 1970 World Cup, embracing a teammate and punching the air with joy, is one of football's most iconic images.
