- Swiss-born character actor, on stage from 1908. Noted in diverse character roles at the Deutsche Theater in Berlin (1930-32) under the auspices of Max Reinhardt and Gustaf Gründgens. Regularly seen in German films of the 1930's, usually as physicians, innkeepers, chemists or military men.
- Friedrich Ettel died at the age of 50 in Berlin-Charlottenburg.
- With the end of the silent movie era he began his film career and entertained the audience with his roles in movies like "Ludwig der Zweite, König von Bayern" (1929).
