It’s time for a new episode of the Real Slashers video series, and with this one we’re taking another look at one of my personal favorites, director Scott Spiegel’s 1989 film Intruder (pick up a copy of the unrated Blu-ray Here). I previously covered this movie with an episode of Best Horror Movie You Never Saw and Emilie Black wrote about it for Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie. Now it’s Tyler Nichols’ turn to dig into it, and you can find out what he had to say about Intruder by watching the video embedded above.
Scripted by Spiegel (who wrote Evil Dead II with Sam Raimi) from a story he crafted with producer Lawrence Bender, Intruder has the following synopsis: It’s 10 pm and the employees of Michigan’s Walnut Lake Supermarket are in for a really bad night. The place is shutting its doors for good,...

Slashers, one of the most popular sub-genres in horror. One with hundreds, if not thousands of entries. While it was certainly on the downturn in the late 1980s, it still seemingly had a new title released every week. In 1989 alone, the slasher world saw the releases of A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child, Sleepaway Camp III: Teenage Wasteland, Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan, Deadly Manor, I Madman, and a whole bunch more. It was a year for slasher sequels with a few originals peppered in. Slashers were big box office and direct-to-video draw in general and studios were churning them out. The slashers were on the prowl and...

1987's "Wall Street" was released in theaters two months after Black Monday: the day the real stock market took a dive. In the timely film, Charlie Sheen plays Bud Fox, a young stockbroker who admires underhanded corporate raider Gordon Gekko (Michael Douglas). Bud pursues Gekko as a client with non-stop calls and contraband Cuban cigars, and when he finally makes contact, his entire life changes. Under the influence of Gekko, who famously utters the line "Greed, for lack of a better word, is good," Bud does some terrible things, including offering up insider information that could destroy his blue-collar father, played by Charlie Sheen's real-life dad, Martin Sheen.
The film, which won Douglas an Academy Award for Best Actor, was directed by Oliver Stone, who allowed the young actor to pick the person who would play his father in the film. He was given the choice between Jack Lemmon or...

Sleepaway Camp II: Unhappy Campers is actually the first movie in the Sleepaway Camp franchise that I’d ever seen. The VHS cover art lured me in as a kid by teasing possible appearances from iconic villains, with Freddy’s glove and Jason’s hockey mask poking out of a woman’s backpack. I was a bit too young to understand the concept of trademarks at that age, so you can imagine my disappointment when neither character made so much as a cameo. Since I hadn’t seen the first film and didn’t have any context for the franchise as a whole (or that twist), I just thought of the movie as low-budget trash.
As I’ve grown older, however, I’ve discovered that low-budget trash can be a lovely thing. And I think it’s important to distinguish trash from “so bad they’re good” movies like Troll 2...

The new year brought good news to longtime fans of Archie Andrews and his friends: The CW has ordered the pilot for Riverdale, a live-action show that will offer a "gritty" take on the long-running comics series. Gritty or not, it's a good fit; after all, if any network can get teenage longing right, it's the CW, which has already found success adapting other comics into shows such as Arrow, The Flash and iZombie. Since news of the pilot order hit in January, there's been Archie news trickling online. New Zealand actor K.J. Apa was cast as Archie, and 90210 vet...

After making blood-splattered summer memories at Camp Arawak, the Sleepaway Camp franchise pointed its cameras at two new seasonal spots: Camp Rolling Hills and Camp New Horizons. It's not that hard to believe that it's been 25 years since the release of "Heathers," on March 31, 1989.
Really, the movie seems like an artifact from a different era, one paradoxically bolder than our own. It's hard to imagine a movie getting made today that makes fun of teen suicide, schoolhouse violence, and the public grieving process that follows both. "Heathers"'s gleefully gruesome satire made stars out of Winona Ryder, Christian Slater, and Shannen Doherty, launched the careers of screenwriter Daniel Waters and director Michael Lehmann, and created the mold for subversive schoolgirl comedies to come, from "Clueless" to "Mean Girls."
"Heathers" wasn't a hit at first, but it eventually became such a huge cult success that it made lunchroom polls and lines like "What's your damage?" into pop-culture fixtures. Still, as many times as you've seen it, there's still much you may not know about "Heathers," from which other...

Finally, we have an Anger Management story for you that isn’t intensely negative. The FX comedy is missing its female lead right now, and there are only 3 episodes left in season 2. But Charlie Sheen’s on screen arch nemesis is acted by Brian Austin Green, who we have learned is now upgraded to series regular status.
Green is the object of Charlie’s loathing because he is Charlie’s ex-wife’s current boyfriend and beating him to a bloody pulp has also gotten Charlie into hot water. The character was introduced in the series’ first episode last year, reminded Deadline and recently came on back to the set for two more episodes this season, which were part of Anger Management‘s 90-episode back order.
The show really has had some wild and cool guest stars, including Sheen’s real life dad, Martin Sheen, and his real life ex Denise Richards.

As a teenager back in the UK I can honestly say that Intruder was one of my favorite horror flicks. I was hooked after seeing it splattered across the cover of Gorezone (#6 I believe). It was released there on vhs with Uncut Version emblazoned across the cover art, which I believe was a mistake as it was to be released with a couple of minutes chopped off.
Anyway, December 13th will see Synapse release this beauty, which is also known as Night Crew: The Final Checkout, onto Blu-ray just in time for Christmas. And will you just look at that glorious artwork!!

Synapse Films is proud to present Scott Spiegel’s Intruder, the “holy grail” of extreme gore cinema, in an all-new 2K high-definition transfer of the original uncut, uncensored version. Sam Raimi (director of The Evil Dead and Spider-man trilogies) and Renée Estevez star in this blood-drenched cult film classic that critics call “a gorgeous low-budget shocker that has long been one of the best kept secrets of the genre scene” (Alan Simpson, Sex Gore Mutants). Kelli Maroney Ahhhh....the final girl! Who doesn't have nostalgic memories of this iconic character. There have been so many final girls that have left an impression on many a horror movie fan's heart and mind. So much so, that there is even a blog named Final Girl! Some of the final girls that have stood out include Jamie Lee Curtis and her symphony of screams in Halloween. We had the self aware final girl with Neve Campbell in the Scream series. We had the tough final girl with Heather Langenkamp in A Nightmare on Elm Street. We have the girly girl final girl with Daphne Zuniga in The Initiation. And we have nerdy good girls such as Renee Estevez in Sleepaway Camp II: Unhappy Campers. So which type of final girl gets my vote? Well, that goes to....

Back in March 1989, we were winding down after a crazy decade of questionable fashion, amazing music, and the end of a beloved President’s term. Madonna, The B-52’s and The Cure were dominating the radio, and the Academy Award for Best Picture would go to Driving Miss Daisy. That’s also when rookie director Michael Lehmann released his low budget black comedy, Heathers.
Set in Anytown, USA, Heathers is the dark and engaging story of high school junior Veronica Sawyer (Winona Ryder) and her unwilling existence in the feared and revered power-clique, know as “The Heathers.” Led by the cruel and punishing Heather Chandler (Kim Walker), the Heathers consist of Heather Duke (Shannen Doherty), a bulimic follower that loathes Chandler and secretly dreams of ruling the group, and Heather McNamara (Lisanne Falk), a cheerleader who has no identity and a need for acceptance.
