Starring Adrien Brody in a career-redefining role as a Hungarian-born Jewish architect who survives the Holocaust and journeys to the U.S., the film screened in front of an influential audience at CAA on Sunday night. The room was filled with industry professionals, journalists, and Oscar winners like Cord Jefferson (“American Fiction”). While it’s nice to see one of the most talented war photographers in history get her roses, the biopic Lee offers little outside of strong performances and interesting imagery to make it stand out in the tired biopic genre.

The film follows the story of Lee Miller, from her days as a fashion model to becoming one of the most iconic war correspondents of all time as a photographer for Vogue magazine during WWII. Although Miller’s life and career were anything but ordinary, this biopic’s writers seem so staunchly committed to following the conventions and formula of the genre that it is somewhat unconvincing.

As a surprise to no one, Winslet is astoundingly good in a passion project she has shepherded for almost a decade. At one point, Winslet financed cast salaries out of her own pocket as well as acted with a brutal back injury sustained during filming. While those trials have added to the aura exuded by Lee Miller over the course of the film, Lee is nevertheless a formulaic biopic kept afloat by a stellar cast that includes Alexander Skarsgard, Andy Samberg, Marion Cotillard, Andrea Riseborough, and more. The story still packs an emotional punch with striking historical context from World War II...

The 2009 film "Nine" — not to be confused with the 2009 film "9" — was an Oscar darling in the most frustrating possible way. It was nominated for four Oscars, including Best Supporting Actress (Penélope Cruz), Best Art Direction, Best Costumes, and Best Original Song. That was just enough nominations for mad Oscar completists to have to see "Nine," a movie that, many agreed, looked dull and baffling. The critics seemed to think so, anyway, as "Nine" only has a 39% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It's the lowest approval rating of any film to star Daniel Day-Lewis.

"Nine" requires some explanation. Firstly, the film was based on a Broadway musical that debuted in 1982. The original production starred Raul Julia, playing a character that was very similar to, but legally distinct from, real-life Italian master Federico Fellini. The character, named Guido Contini, found both his marriage and his creative spirit flagging in the face of a midlife crisis.

The Academy Award winner recently opened up about proudly showcasing the “softest physical version” of herself to portray the renowned photojournalist in the upcoming Ellen Kuras-helmed biopic Lee, premiering Sept. 27 in theaters.

After previously revealing that a crew member on the set advised her to suck in her stomach to hide her “belly rolls” during a topless scene, Winslet recalled her reaction. “You think I’m not aware you can see that? I just went, ‘I’m all good,'” she told Time.

The “Gone Girl” actress will star in “Thumblite,” which received a straight-to-series order at Netflix, the streamer announced Thursday. Set in Silicon Valley, the series is described as examining “the schemes, rivalries, visions and obsessions of the power brokers and their underlings as they vie for control of the most powerful industry the world has ever known.”

The thriller series hails from Scott Z. Burns, who will serve as creator, writer and showrunner. Burns will executive produce the series alongside Pike, Scott Galloway, Greg Jacobs, Michael Ellenberg and Lindsey Springer, who EPs for Media Res.

Kate Winslet is to be honored at the Zurich Film Festival, which runs Oct. 3 – 13. On Oct. 7, Winslet will accept the festival’s Golden Icon Award and present her latest film, “Lee.”

Winslet stars as the war photographer Lee Miller in the film, and also acts as a co-producer. Miller’s son, Antony Penrose, and the film’s co-producer, Kate Solomon, will also attend the screening.

The film, directed by Ellen Kuras, tells the story of Miller, who made a name for herself as a correspondent for British Vogue during World War II. Winslet embodies the fearless Lee–one of the most important female war photographers of the 20th century–on her mission to reveal the hidden truths of the Third Reich.

Winslet plays alongside Andy Samberg, Andrea Riseborough, Alexander Skarsgård, Josh O’Connor and Marion Cotillard.

Kate Winslet will be feted with the Zurich Film Festival’s Golden Icon Award at its upcoming 20th edition running from October 3 to 13.

Winslet will receive the award – paying tribute to her stellar career and filmography spanning films such Titanic to Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind, The Reader, Sense and Sensibility and Avatar: The Way of Water – on October 7.

The ceremony will be followed by a screening of Ellen Kuras’s bio-pic Lee, in which Winslet stars as the war photographer Lee Miller, and acts as a co-producer.

Lee Miller’s son, Antony Penrose, and Lee co-producer Kate Solomon will also be in attendance.

“Kate Winslet is a true icon of cinema and shines through her versatility in big studio blockbusters as well as small indie productions. Her multifaceted choice of roles and her long Hollywood career make her a favourite with audiences of multiple generations,” said Zff Artistic Director Christian Jungen.

The next season of Apple TV+’s The Morning Show will likely premiere long after the 2024 presidential election has ended, and that democratic process only scratches the surface of what real-life events the drama series could respond to with the time it has in production before release.

The Morning Show received an early renewal for a fourth season before Season 3 even premiered. At the time of this announcement, a fifth season was also in consideration.

Against all odds, he must complete his mission amidst the chaos of war.” World of Reel adds that Henry Cavill is set to star alongside Cruise, with Marion Cotillard eyed to play the female lead. Just keeps getting better and better. The Narcos and Justified: City Primeval star recently starred on the big screen in Jeff Nichols’ The Bikeriders and will next be seen in James Mangold’s upcoming Bob Dylan biopic, A Complete Unknown (reteaming with Mangold again after Indiana Jones and The Dial of Destiny). He is currently filming season two of Netflix’s The Sandman, reprising his role as The Corinthian.

Filming for the new season is well underway, and viewers were able to get a preview of Season 4 as the show filmed some scenes on location in New York City.

In what seemingly looks like a protest scene, Aniston’s Alex Levy got completely drenched in a black substance. The Friends alum appeared angry during the scene where she was surrounded by extras in NYC.

Some of the signs that the extras around Aniston were carrying read “Extinction Revolt,” “Fuel Kills,” and “Climate Emergency.”

One of the photos also showed Aniston walking alongside another woman dressed identically to her, which was presumably her body double.
