In Season 1 of HBO’s Peabody Award-winning dramedy “Somebody Somewhere,” Sam Miller (Bridget Everett) worked through her grief and anger in the months following her older sister Holly’s death. In Season 2, she struggled to find her place in her hometown again while managing her first big blowup with her best friend Joel (Jeff Hiller) and grappling with a secret Holly had kept from her. Now, in the third season of this outstanding series, Sam finally settles into her tiny community and tries to navigate change without retreating into old habits of isolation and self-loathing. Just as magical as ever, the final season of “Somebody Somewhere” is a stunningly honest depiction of friendship, grace and courage.
Set in Manhattan, Kansas, “Somebody Somewhere” captures the quiet, charm and monotony of small-town living. Instead of being patronizing, creators Hannah Bos and Paul Thureen offer a hilarious and beautifully compassionate window into this particular place,...

“Somebody Somewhere” is bracing for major changes in its first trailer for Season 3. The final installment of Bridget Everett’s award-winning comedy will premiere Oct. 27 at 10:30 p.m. Et on HBO. New episodes will also be available to stream on Max.
Monday’s trailer opens with what Sam dubs “a lot of change.” As her friends encourage the group to eat healthier, her best friend Joel (Jeff Hiller) prepares to move.
“I don’t really know what I’m doing. What’s wrong with wanting a little bit more?” Sam asks her sister.
“You are a woman who is in charge of her life. But you have to manifest it. You have to say it out loud otherwise it won’t happen,” Tricia (Mary Catherine Garrison) lectures. Later, she gives some kinder advice, assuring her sister that “nobody knows what they’re doing, I promise. You just do it.

Somebody Somewhere is bowing out.
The critically acclaimed, Peabody Award-winning HBO dramedy will end with its forthcoming third season. The final run is set to premiere Oct. 27.
HBO picked up a third season of the series in June 2023. It began filming soon after the end of last year’s SAG-AFTRA strike (scripts had been completed prior to the writers strike), making it one of the first productions to get running again after writers and actors secured new contracts.
Created by Hannah Bos and Paul Thureen and starring Bridget Everett (who’s also a writer and executive producer), Somebody Somewhere centers on Sam (Everett), who moves back to her Kansas hometown and eventually finds her people in a community of outsiders “who don’t fit in but don’t give up,” as the show’s logline puts it.

The Groundlings will host an improv musical fundraising event on Oct. 26, featuring Ana Gasteyer, Kristen Bell, Kristen Wiig and Will Forte. The event, held at the Performing Arts Center at Vista Del Mar, will benefit the Motion Picture & Television Fund to support below-the-line workers impacted by the strikes.
“One Night Only,” created and directed by Groundlings Main Company member Andrew Leeds, is a full production of a well-known Broadway musical. The catch? The improvisers are given the script and their roles only 24 hours in advance.
“These strikes have taken a terrible toll on our amazing crews, and it isn’t over yet. Even with the WGA strike ending, most crew members won’t be able to start work again until the SAG-AFTRA deal is ratified,” Leeds said in a statement. “Even then, many will be fighting to survive as they wait for productions to start back up.

The show, set for Thursday, October 26 in Los Angeles, will be a “fully-realized production of a well-known Broadway musical,” the catch being that the performers won’t know what show or their roles until 24 hours before curtain. “The audience finds out what the show is when the curtain rises on the most terrified group of actors you will ever see,” the improv company says.
Created and directed by Groundlings Main Company member Andrew Leeds, One Night Only will include performers Kristen Bell, Kristen Wiig, Ana Gasteyer, Will Forte, Jim Rash, Nat Faxon, Edi Patterson, Julian Gant, Michaela Watkins, Greg Worswick, Lyric Lewis, Jim Cashman, Allison Dunbar, H Michael Croner, Michelle Noh, Patty Guggenheim, Stephanie Courtney, Matt Cook,...

HBO is heading back to the Little Apple.
The premium cable outlet has renewed Somebody Somewhere for a third season. The pickup comes a few days after the dramedy starring Bridget Everett and set in Manhattan, Kansas, concluded its seven-episode second season.
“We’re thrilled to announce the third season of the honest and impactful Somebody Somewhere,” said Amy Gravitt, executive vp comedy programming at HBO and Max. “Nothing makes us smile quite like this show, which never fails to remind us that life is made up of the small moments, that family can be chosen, and that dreams don’t have deadlines.”
The series draws relatively modest viewership in relation to some other HBO originals, but it’s been a critical favorite. Season one received an AFI Award as one of the top 10 TV programs of 2022.

When we hop on a Zoom with Bridget Everett and Jeff Hiller to break down Somebody Somewhere‘s sophomore season, of course Episode 5 is high on the agenda, so much so that it catches Everett slightly off guard. “Geez, Nick. Really unpacking things today!” she exclaims.
How can we not talk about Sam and Joel’s biggest rift yet, which spawned feelings of hurt and betrayal between buds. In Sunday’s episode, the resident besties’ friendship experiences its first major bump in the road when Joel finds a new boo (Tim Bagley’s Brad, aka “Sls”) and lies to Sam about it.

Season one of HBO’s Somebody Somewhere largely focused on lead character Sam’s (Bridget Everett) halting attempts to fit back into her Kansas hometown. The trailer for season two of the series suggests she’s feeling at least a little more comfortable there.
The trailer shows that Sam and Joel (Jeff Hiller) have moved in together — “It’s solely a financial arrangement,” Joel says — and settled into a routine. Sam also takes a few more steps to further her singing, approaching her old music teacher for voice lessons.
Hiller also told The Hollywood Reporter that Joel will have a new love interest in season two, played by Tim Bagley (Grace and Frankie). “I originally thought that Joel might get back together with his season one boyfriend, but I think this story is much more interesting,” he said.
The two-minute clip also showcases the series’ mix of comedy and emotion...

Somebody Somewhere is having a really good year. Its stars Bridget Everett and Jeff Hiller were nominated for Spirit Awards, it’s up for outstanding new TV series at the GLAAD Media Awards, and on April 23 the second season will premiere on HBO — something Hiller wasn’t sure would happen. “We had really good reviews the first season, but we don’t have a murder mystery or sci-fi elements,” he says. “We’re just a quiet, little show full of middle-aged, sweaty people.” Ahead of the GLAAD Awards, Hiller talked to THR about what makes the show so special.

Bj Novak reminisced about his “tumultuous” relationship with ex-girlfriend Mindy Kaling at Sunday’s (26 February) Producers Guild Awards.
Before presenting his former Office co-star with the Norman Lear Achievement Award in Television, Novak honoured Kaling for her incredible writing talents, which he said were guided by her “passionate” and “unstoppable” opinions.
“The first thing I first noticed about Mindy in [The Office] writer’s room is that she cared so much about everything,” Novak recalled. “Whether Jim and Pam should kiss, the philosophical limits of Dwight’s loyalty to Michael, exactly how many seconds Kevin would roll around in his spilt chilli.
“And it went beyond the show,” he continued. “She cared about all the issues of the day. About Beyoncé vs Rihanna, about BlackBerries vs iPhones, about whether You’ve Got Mail should be in the Criterion Collection.”

‘The White Lotus’ actress Jennifer Coolidge won outstanding performance by a female actor in a drama series award at the 2023 Screen Actors Guild Awards, and shared some insight into her earliest inspirations that led her down her career path.
The actress thanked her “amazing parents,” providing an anecdote in particular about her dad and his influence on her career choice, reports People magazine.
“It’s been a very special year, and it’s overwhelming,” Coolidge, 61, said while accepting the honour, which she won over fellow nominees Elizabeth Debicki (‘The Crown’), Julia Garner (‘Ozark’), Laura Linney (‘Ozarka’) and Zendaya (‘Euphoria’).
Relating a memory in which her father had her unexpectedly released from class in first grade under the pretence she needed to leave for illness, Coolidge explained that her dad had told a lie for a specific purpose.
“I got in the car with my dad,” she said, quoted by People.
