The first trailer for Waltzing with Brando, a new film tracking Marlon Brando’s early ’70s plan to create a vacation resort in Tahiti, has been revealed.

Waltzing with Brando stars Billy Zane as Brando and Jon Heder as Bernard Judge, the architect and environmental planner tasked with building the resort. It takes place mainly from 1969 to 1974, during which Brando starred in legendary films like The Godfather and The Last Tango in Paris.

Brando filmed Mutiny on the Bounty in Tahiti in the early 1960s and fell in love with the region, leading him to purchase a small island there. He was deeply committed to sustainability and aimed to infuse this ethos into his new island retreat. The first trailer has been revealed showing Billy Zane as Marlon Brando at the peak of his powers in upcoming biopic “Waltzing With Brando.”

The feature, which also stars Jon Heder, has been picked up by Vmi Worldwide for foreign sales.

Written and directed by Bill Fishman, the film is based on a memoir by Bernard Judge which takes place between 1969 and 1974 while Brando was preparing to film “The Godfather” and “Last Tango in Paris.” Alongside Zane and Heder, additional castmembers include the Oscar winner Richard Dreyfuss, as well as Camille Razat (“Emily in Paris”), Alaina Huffman, Tia Carrera (“Waynes World”) and Mick Jagger’s son James Jagger.

“Waltzing With Brando” follows Brando (Zane) — then the most famous actor in the world — as he filmed “Mutiny on the Bounty” and bought a tiny and uninhabitable island in Tahiti. His intent was to escape his hectic Hollywood lifestyle and show the world the path to sustainability.

There’s never been a stand-up special more aptly named than Ellen DeGeneres’ For Your Approval, which dropped today on Netflix. It’s one of the weirder stand-up shows in recent memory, half observational punchlines, half closing argument in a trial featuring DeGeneres as her own defense attorney. Neither half works on its own. Taken as a whole, it’s an exhausting mess.

Let’s get the comedy stuff out of the way first. DeGeneres came up in the business as an affable observational comic in the Jim Gaffigan/Bob Newhart mold, borrowing Newhart’s one-sided phone conversation technique for her popular bit about talking to God. She peppers For Your Approval with similar jokes about mundane topics like parallel parking, windshield wipers and the weird habits of chickens — the punchlines are professional but uninspired.

As Punkie Johnson, Molly Kearney and Chloe Troast know all too well, most departures from Saturday Night Live happen with little fanfare or recognition — a few paragraphs in The Hollywood Reporter during the show’s off-season and you’re gone for good. Exclusive: Irish rock knight Bob Geldof and the producers of Just For One Day, the musical about the Live Aid rock concerts in London and Philadelphia on July 13, 1985, will transfer the show, which world-premiered at London’s Old Vic Theatre last January, into the West End in 2025 to mark the seminal event’s 40th anniversary.

There’s a moment in “Elton John: Never Too Late,” a robustly satisfying and emotional documentary about the life and career of Elton John, that captures him, in a most revealing way, in his ’70s heyday.

It’s a clip from a television interview, in which Elton is explaining how he writes a song. The clip must be from 1971, and Elton, still looking like a puppy child, with rectangle-framed glasses and plenty of shaggy hair, sits at an upright piano and brings out a sheaf of lyrics — pages all written in longhand by his collaborator, Bernie Taupin. Elton wants to show us his method, so he talks about a song he just wrote, called “Tiny Dancer,” and finds the lyrics to it. He explains how he scanned through them and realized, when he saw the word “ballerina,” that it would have to be a slow-tempo song. He demonstrates how he kind of improvised the chords.

Apple TV+ has revealed the trailer and key art for season four of its Emmy Award-nominated and BAFTA Award-winning series Slow Horses, starring Academy Award winner Gary Oldman. The season was adapted from Spook Street, the fourth novel in Mick Herron’s Cwa Gold Dagger Award-winning spy series Slough House.
