Good friends with Melissa Joan Hart. Coincidentally, Hart was offered the role of Six LeMeure in Blossom (1990) first, but turned it down to star in Clarissa Explains It All (1991) instead. After Hart declined, von Oÿ got the part.

Gave birth to her 2nd child at age 37, daughter Marlowe Bratcher (Marlowe Monroe Bratcher), on November 1, 2014 in Nashville at 12:35 p.m. and weighing 7 lbs., 4 oz. and measuring 18.25 inches. Child's father is her ex-husband, Brad Bratcher.

Was offered a key supporting role in 1989's "Born on the Fourth of July", but her father insisted she turn it down because of what she'd be subjected to as said character. She trusted his judgment and declined the part.
