In the wake of last year’s World Premiere at FrightFest 2023, single take thriller Failure! has been acquired for North American distribution by Red Water Entertainment, Variety reports.
“The film will be released in the first quarter of 2025,” the report notes.
Director Alex Kahuam‘s psychological thriller is presented in three acts…
Shot in one unbroken 87-minute take, Failure! follows James who has a big debt with the bank and is given one hour to choose between financial ruin or murder in order to protect his family. As the hour progresses he finds his home and phone invaded by multiple characters pulling him in different directions, gradually adding to his distress and his unravelling. But who is real and who isn’t?
The film also stars Merrick McCartha (Senior Year), Melissa Diaz (Ruthless), John Paul Medrano (Seven Days) and Daniel Kuhlman (Voodoo MacBeth) and Noel Douglas Orput.

Red Water Entertainment has snapped up North American distribution rights to the single take thriller “Failure!” led by Ted Raimi (“The Quarry”).
This Mexico-u.S. co-production, shot in an unbroken 87-minute take, follows business tycoon James (Raimi) as he faces a crushing bank debt deadline. With time running out, he contends with treacherous associates, deceitful friends and haunting pasts, and is forced to choose between financial collapse or murder.
Directed by Alex Kahuam (“Forgiveness”), “Failure!” is believed to be the first time a Mexican filmmaker has made a feature film without cuts in the U.S.
The cast also includes Merrick McCartha (“Senior Year”), Melissa Diaz (“Ruthless”), John Paul Medrano (“Seven Days”), Daniel Kuhlman (“Voodoo Macbeth”) and Noel Douglas Orput.
The film gained a boost after bowing at the inaugural Fantastic Pavilion Galas, the Cannes Film Festival market’s genre showcase that was introduced in 2023. It has since screened at Frightfest,...

It’s time for a new episode of the Real Slashers video series, and with this one we’re taking another look at one of my personal favorites, director Scott Spiegel’s 1989 film Intruder (pick up a copy of the unrated Blu-ray Here). I previously covered this movie with an episode of Best Horror Movie You Never Saw and Emilie Black wrote about it for Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie. Now it’s Tyler Nichols’ turn to dig into it, and you can find out what he had to say about Intruder by watching the video embedded above.
Scripted by Spiegel (who wrote Evil Dead II with Sam Raimi) from a story he crafted with producer Lawrence Bender, Intruder has the following synopsis: It’s 10 pm and the employees of Michigan’s Walnut Lake Supermarket are in for a really bad night. The place is shutting its doors for good,...

‘Drag Me to Hell’ – New Australian Blu-ray Celebrates 15 Years of Sam Raimi’s Horror Return [Review]
Of all the masters of horror that helped to reshape the genre as we know it in the ’70s and ’80s, none were more successful in branching out and achieving commercial success within the studio system than Sam Raimi. His Spider-Man trilogy laid the groundwork for the influx of comic book movies that would follow, but he was eager to return to his roots following the third installment’s turbulent production.
Armed with $30 million and complete creative control, Raimi dusted off a story he wrote with elder brother and frequent collaborator Ivan Raimi back in the ’90s to make his triumphant return to horror with Drag Me to Hell in 2009. The Raimi broters seemingly drew inspiration from 1957’s Night of the Demon but injected it with a heavy dose of Evil Dead DNA, most closely evoking Evil Dead 2‘s cartoonish blend of over-the-top splatter and tongue-in-cheek humor.

If there’s one thing you can count on in a Ryuhei Kitamura horror film, it’s the copious amounts of bloodshed and gore. With Kitamura, gore is most definitely an artform. Based on Clive Barker’s 1984 short story of the same name, 2008 film The Midnight Meat Train follows a photographer obsessed with dark subject matter. He gets in over his head when he discovers a serial killer that butchers unsuspecting night commuters in grisly fashion.
There’s probably not many movies as aptly titled as this one. There’s a lot of human meat, blood, brain matter, and limbs being carved up on the late-night subway train in this horror movie. Bradley Cooper stars as Leon Kaufman, the photographer that stumbles upon and then becomes obsessed with the ruthless serial killer. His concerned girlfriend Maya, a character not in the original story, is played by Leslie Bibb. But the...

Do you remember the answer to the question, Who is Darkman? If not, Scream Factory invites you to revisit Sam Raimi’s first foray into superhero films with their brand new 4K Ultra HD release of 1990’s Darkman launching February 20th.
After being unable to obtain the rights to The Shadow, Raimi decided to mix traits from other popular crime fighters and classic Universal Monsters and pour them into the base of his own unique and tragic figure, Darkman. And this unique character is one who could disguise themselves as anyone they wanted to be.
With prospects like Bill Paxton and Gary Oldman interested in the lead, Raimi rolled the dice on virtual unknown Liam Neeson for his first ever starring role. Raimi also took a gamble on another longshot, his roommate Frances McDormand for the female lead after Julia Roberts bowed out due to personal reasons and became the Pretty Woman.

Supermassive’s horror game Until Dawn has been confirmed for a Playstation 5 and PC release later in 2024.
Playstation held their first State Of Play of 2024 last night (31st January). Gamers around the world got sneak peeks at Playstation’s upcoming games and plenty of new announcements.
One of those announcements was Until Dawn’s release on Playstation 5. Supermassive’s seminal horror game from 2015, originally released for PS4, will be available on both PS5 and PC sooner than you’d think.
While the team didn’t give the game a set release date, they did reveal that it would be coming later this year.
Until Dawn is arguably Supermassive’s biggest release to date and for good reason. It’s almost unbearably tense and has excellent replay value. The gameplay consists of making choices rather than traditional exploration and combat. The choices you make then change how the narrative unfolds and...

Found in your local “Shower After Watching” section of the suspicious flea market around the corner is 1993’s Skinner. And it’s probably the only movie in that bin to feature an acting performance from daytime talk show host Ricki Lake. Seriously.

Due to a massive debt with his bank, James is given one hour to choose between selling his factory to prevent financial ruin or murder to protect his family.

One of two single take films at Frightfest 2023 (along with Thomas Sieben’s Home Sweet Home: Where Evil Lives), Failure captures a critical moment in the life of James (Ted Raimi), a 56-year-old CEO, a father to two daughters, and a man who has never been able to live up to his imagined picture of what his father wanted him to be. Life comes at him fast in this 87 minute drama as a lengthy process of deferring debts sees him reach the point where he has run out of options. He simply has no further access to cash. Either his beautiful family home or the factory which he has poured his life into will have to go.
This is not, as it emerges, really James’ fault. Multiple characters ascribe the company’s struggles to his father, and tell him that he has done well to keep it going for as.

With this being the fifth film in the Evil Dead franchise, that means that it is full of easter eggs and references to other films in the shared universe. What Evil Dead Rise easter eggs did we find?

Dynamite Entertainment has released a ton of Army of Darkness comic books over the years, but with the upcoming series Army of Darkess: Forever they’re going back to the source: this comic book is a direct sequel to director Sam Raimi’s 1993 film (watch it Here)! And this sequel comes with a bonus in that it continues on from both endings of the film.
While the theatrical cut of Army of Darkness found our time traveling hero Ash back in his own time, working at S-Mart (and fighting a Deadite in the aisles), the director’s cut of the film ends with Ash being dropped into a post-apocalyptic future.
Here’s the information on Army of Darkness: Forever #1: The story picks up immediately after the events of the beloved film, jumping between three fun timelines. The Techno Army of Darkness of 2093, the S-Mart aisles of 1993, and the middle ages chaos of Castle Kandar,...

The Wishmaster episode of Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? was Written by Emilie Black, Narrated by Jason Hewlett, Edited by Juan Jimenez, Produced by Lance Vlcek and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
Horror has had many periods and the late 1990s were very much for self-referential films, dark humor, and cameos. Wishmaster, or Wes Craven’s Wishmaster (watch it Here) as it was marketed at the time, is more on the dark humor side of things than self-referential. Still, it does have plenty of cameos and references to other movies to be found by those paying attention.
While the film was marketed as Wes Craven’s Wishmaster, the film was in fact, written by Peter Adkins and directed by Robert Kurtzman, two creators the world of horror already knew. Craven was an executive producer here, but his name put butts in seats back in the day,...

Alief has acquired world sales rights to Alex Kahuam’s single-take thriller “Failure!” starring Ted Raimi.
Shot in a single, 87-minute take, the Mexican-u.S. co-production follows James (Raimi), a man who has just one hour to choose between financial ruin or murder to protect his family.

“I’m very excited to work with Alief because they understand what true cinema is,” said Kahuam. “The Fantastic Pavilion was the bridge and Alief was the catalyst to move the film where we thought it should go.”
Raimi added: “With Alief, I’m looking forward to fans seeing me in a different light; still a black and morbid one, but now dramatic as well.”

Bone Tomahawk (2015)
Director S. Craig Zahler made his feature debut with this excellent blend of the horror and Western genres, which pits a group of men – played by Kurt Russell, Richard Jenkins, Matthew Fox, and Patrick Wilson – against a group of cave-dwelling cannibals who have taken the wife of Wilson’s character captive. With a running time of 132 minutes, Bone Tomahawk takes its time showing the men’s journey to the tribe’s cave… but when the violence breaks out, it’s worth the wait. If you can stomach the gore.

Actor Ted Raimi loves horror so much that he’s dedicated much of his career to it, providing fans with an endless array of memorable characters from Evil Dead II’s Henrietta to last year’s morally complex Travis Hackett in video game The Quarry.
Up next for the horror stalwart is Failure!, an ambitious, violent thriller premiering this Sunday under the Fantastic Pavilion at this year’s Cannes’ Marché du Film.
In Failure!, Ted Raimi produces and stars as a man forced to choose between financial ruin and murder with little time to process, resulting in a crime thriller that delivers on violence. That’s burying the lede, however, as Raimi’s latest takes on the daunting task of capturing this moral conundrum through one single take.
Ted Raimi exclusively spoke with Bloody Disgusting about Failure!, detailing the challenges of making a single-take feature-length thriller.

After the release of Freddy vs. Jason back in 2003, New Line Cinema wanted to make a sequel to the film that would have seen Freddy and Jason doing battle with Ash Williams, the heroic character Bruce Campbell plays in the Evil Dead franchise. Alas, Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash wasn’t to be, as Campbell and his fellow Evil Dead rights holders – franchise creator Sam Raimi and producer Rob Tapert – decided they didn’t want to drop Ash into a sequel to other franchises. They wanted to continue making Evil Dead projects on their own. But now that Evil Dead: The Game is in the world, Campbell has suggested Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash could happen in game land, they just need to add Freddy and Jason as playable characters. Meanwhile, Ted Raimi has his own suggestion for a character that should be added to the game: his Ash vs.

Most horror fans are familiar with the concept of the final girl. Traditionally found in slashers, the final girl is the last character standing. The one who makes it to the end of the movie with bloodstained clothes and a metric ton of trauma — but still very much alive. Most of the iconic horror protagonists are final girls, including Sidney Prescott, Nancy Thompson, and Laurie Strode. However, the "Evil Dead" franchise offers something entirely different: a goofy, lovable S-Mart employee who finds himself in the crosshairs of some serious supernatural evil. Taking on aspects of a classic action hero while never losing his trademark sense of humor, Ash Williams is a final boy who grows into a final man,

On February 19, 1993, the third entry in director Sam Raimi‘s Evil Dead franchise – Army of Darkness (watch it Here) – reached theatres. Even though the film was a box office failure, it quickly earned a cult following… and by now, it probably ranks as one of the most popular horror comedies ever made. That’s why we have put together a video to celebrate 30 years of Army of Darkness, which you can now check out in the embed above!
Written by Sam Raimi and his brother Ivan Raimi, Army of Darkness has the following synopsis: Ash is transported back to medieval days, where he is captured by the dreaded Lord Arthur. Aided by the deadly chainsaw that has become his only friend, Ash is sent on a perilous mission to recover the Book of the Dead, a powerful tome that gives its owner the power to summon an army of ghouls.

When you watch a treasured favorite enough times, it's easy to lose all sense of time. One moment you're watching Bruce Campbell fighting a Ray Harryhausen-esque skeleton puppet and the next, "Army of Darkness" is celebrating its 30th anniversary, which is wild to think about. In the three decades since its 1992 theatrical release, Sam Raimi's third chapter in the "Evil Dead" series has continued to get better with age. Some folks prefer "The Evil Dead" or "Evil Dead II," given that those films are bonafide horror films, but this one holds an extra special place in my heart.
In addition to being a rousing medieval adventure, "Army of Darkness" is simply one of the funniest comedies I've ever seen. It never fails to make me laugh, such as when Ash (Campbell) tosses the dirt on his evil doppelganger's burnt face. Raimi wholly embraces the kind of "Three Stooges...

As night falls, a castle needs to be protected from a massive army who have risen from the abyss to claim what they think is rightfully theirs. Archers stand by near the castle walls as the undead army marches toward the fortress in formation, while a reluctant hero rallies the men to fight against impossible odds. No, this is not the battle of Helm's Deep in Peter Jackson's "The Two Towers" — this sequence is the climactic battle between the skeletons and Arthur's men with Ash at the forefront in Sam Raimi's "Army of Darkness." The similarities between Raimi's audacious final installment in the "Evil Dead" trilogy and Jackson's near-perfect "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy are few far and between in terms of tone, intent, and cinematic ambition. However, in the event of the 30th anniversary of "Army of Darkness" this week, I would like to...
