"The Simpsons" is still a thing in 2024, even though nobody you know is watching it. While the general consensus is that the show hasn't been good for a while, it still manages to churn out the odd highlight, including a fake series finale inspired by a common fan question. What's more, you can still count on the "Treehouse of Horror" episodes to deliver top-quality "Simpsons."
Inspired by a '50s comic, the "Treehouse of Horror" Halloween episodes started in the show's second season, and have become a "Simpsons" tradition ever since (though that tradition almost ended before it began). The anthology episodes are responsible for some of the most memorable moments in the series' long history, and have developed their own mini traditions in and of themselves — one being renaming all the cast and crew in the episode credits to give them spooky-sounding names.

When the Cincinnati Bengals take on the Dallas Cowboys on Dec. 9, you may be surprised to see some new players on the field in the form of Bart and Homer Simpson.
That’s because in addition to the regular “Monday Night Football” telecast, ESPN+ and Disney+ will be offering a live, animated recreation of the game with “The Simpsons Funday Football.”
The House of Mouse dropped a teaser for the state-of-the-art sporting experience during halftime of Monday’s game. While the clip only shows Bart siding with the Bengals and Homer backing the Cowboys, the December game promises many more appearances from Springfield — including Krusty, Nelson, Milhouse, Ralph, Carl, Barney, Lenny and Moe. Plus, Marge and Lisa will be interviewing players on the sideline, while Maggie operates the skycam. Watch the video below:

After throwing characters from Marvel and Toy Story into its ongoing battle to lure young viewers to its increasingly expensive sports telecasts, Disney’s ESPN is really bringing in the big guns.
Characters from the long-running animated series “The Simpsons” will join a December 9th “Monday Night Football” game between the Cincinnati Bengals and Dallas Cowboys in an animated “alterna-cast” that will stream on Disney+, ESPN+ and NFL+ while the usual traditional broadcast airs on ESPN. In the kids’ version of the game, Bart Simpson will play at times for the Bengals and his father, Homer, will fight for the Cowboys, while sister Lisa and mother Marge will interview players while baby Maggie operates the sky-cam.
Longtime “Simpsons” voice actors Hank Azaria, Nancy Cartwright, Dan Castellaneta, Julie Kavner and Yeardley Smith will voice several of their characters in prerecorded bits and sketches.

A Monday Night Football matchup later this season will feature two familiar characters, Bart and Homer Simpson, in the decidedly unfamiliar context of a live NFL football game.
The alternate, animated telecast of the December 9 showdown between the Cincinnati Bengals and Dallas Cowboys will feature a fully immersive Simpsons experience conveying the actual on-field action. It will be brought to life by writers and voice talent from the long-running Fox animated series, whose characters and library became the property of ESPN parent Disney in 2019. The setting for the telecast, streaming on Disney+ and ESPN+ and on mobile via NFL+, will be Atoms Stadium in the show’s fictional home base of Springfield.
It will be the second annual “Funday Football” initiative by ESPN, Disney and the NFL, following last year’s debut edition set in Andy’s bedroom in Pixar’s Toy Story franchise. Unlike a year ago, however, strikes...

Bart Simpson may soon have a new catchphrase in his repertoire: “Don’t have a Cowboy, man.”
The Walt Disney Co., the NFL and ESPN and teaming up to debut another animated alternative broadcast of an upcoming NFL game, but this time they are going big with “ESPN’s The Simpsons Funday Football.”
On Dec. 9, Disney+ and ESPN+ will stream the Dallas Cowboys-Cincinnati Bengals matchup, but it will take place in Springfield’s Atoms Stadium, with all the players replaced by dozens of animated characters based on those from the Fox and Disney+ series The Simpsons.
It will be the second year in a row that Disney+ will stream an animated version of an NFL game, but this year’s game will be bigger on multiple fronts: For starters, it is a Monday Night Football matchup, not a Sunday morning game like last year’s Toy Story game.

For decades, the line, “Cause she’s got a Great Ass,” shouted by Al Pacino in Michael Mann’s crime classic “Heat” has entertained, but also befuddled viewers. Most have chalked it up to Pacino’s lively performance style or the fact that his character is trying to mess with Hank Azaria’s, but in Pacino’s recently published memoir, “Sonny Boy,” he shared that the real reason LAPD Lieutenant Vincent Hanna is so hyped up throughout the film is because he built his whole character around doing cocaine.
“A lot of people didn’t know that,” Pacino said in a recent interview on the “Wtf Podcast with Marc Maron” in which he discussed the memoir. “It took me 20 years before I could say anything about it.”
Though he was playing a character inspired by a real guy, Pacino developed his own version, making Hanna a recreational cocaine user and...

"Lost Verizon" is a very 2008-style "Simpsons" episode. It takes place during that period where cell phones were becoming the norm, even among kids Bart's age, and bases its first act around Bart trying (and eventually succeeding) to get his hands on one. The fact that the cell phone's a flip phone immediately dates the episode, which is a shame because flip phones were very cool in the 2000s, and they allowed you to hang up angrily with dramatic, cinematic gusto. Nevertheless, the episode's main storyline ages perfectly: It's about Marge deciding to use Bart's phone to track his every move, a prescient commentary on the way cell phones have restricted kids' privacy despite their original promise of freedom.
But before "Lost Verizon" can deal with all of that, it must first introduce us to Denis Leary, the famous Massachusetts actor from "Rescue Me" and "Ice Age." Leary shows up at the Springfield golf course,...

In the "The Simpsons" episode "Brother from the Same Planet", Homer (Dan Castellaneta) forgets about Bart (Nancy Cartwright) at soccer practice, leaving him to wait for many hours. Bart, as he often does, accuses Homer of being a terrible father, and seeks revenge by submitting his name to the Bigger Brother agency (a riff on Big Brothers Big Sisters of America) hoping to find a new temporary guardian to care for him. Bart is paired with a charming, caring man named Tom (Phil Hartman), an ultra-cool test pilot. Tom is gentle and attentive, and Bart enjoys the time they spend together. Bart eventually starts to feel guilty, though, when he realizes Tom's time could be spent caring for a more disadvantaged child than he.

All October long, Cracked is catching up with some of the greatest writers in Simpsons history to discuss the most beloved segments from the “Treehouse of Horror” series. From the cursed monkey’s paw to Krusto the Clown, we’re digging into the making of some real fan-favorites.
When it comes to The Simpsons, longtime showrunner Al Jean has seen just about everything. Which means that when he’s picking show favorites, the competition is fierce. Maybe never more so than among “Treehouse of Horror” episodes, as he was half of the creative team behind the second one (with his stalwart writing partner Mike Reiss), and he’s played a role in pretty much every installment since.
When I ask him and Reiss for a favorite, though, the answer comes pretty easy: Season 26’s “Treehouse of Horror Xxv.”

This year’s New York Comic Con saw The Simpsons hold its first-ever panel at the event. It consisted of creator Matt Groening, showrunner Matt Selman, voice actor Hank Azaria and writers/producers Carolyn Omine and Tim Long.
One of the questions asked was when, if ever, another Simpsons movie would be forthcoming, as there hasn’t been a theatrical adventure for Springfield’s first family since 2007. Groening joked that it’d be in “2042,” but Selman was a bit more revealing, explaining that another film is something that’s been discussed. While he cautioned that “this isn’t an announcement,” he did say, “There probably will be another Simpsons movie.”
What it would look like and when it would be released is obviously still a total unknown, but given the show’s love for commemorating anniversaries, 2027 — the 20th anniversary of the first film — makes a lot of sense.

So many celebrities have appeared on "The Simpsons," that 36 seasons later, the cameos have become a crutch for the show. Worse, the guests have gone from voicing characters (take Dustin Hoffman's uncredited appearance in "Lisa's Substitute") to just appearing as themselves.
The cracks were already showing in the show's golden age. Season 7's "Lisa The Vegetarian" features Paul and Linda McCartney showing up at the end to reassure Lisa she's made the correct choice of vegetarianism. The McCartneys are depicted as friends of fellow vegetarian Apu Nahasapeemapetilon (Hank Azaria), who tend to his secret garden on the roof of the Kwik-e-Mart. Here’s the synopsis: The Electric State is a spectacular adventure from the directors of Avengers: Endgame set in an alternate, retro-futuristic version of the 1990s. Millie stars as Michelle, an orphaned teenager navigating life in a society where sentient robots resembling cartoons and mascots, who once served peacefully among humans, now live in exile following a failed uprising. Everything Michelle thinks she knows about the world is upended one night when she’s visited by Cosmo, a sweet, mysterious robot who appears to be controlled by Christopher — Michelle’s genius younger brother whom she thought was dead. Determined to find the beloved sibling she thought she had lost, Michelle sets out across the American southwest with Cosmo, and soon finds herself reluctantly joining forces with Keats (Pratt), a low-rent smuggler, and his wisecracking robot sidekick,...

Millie Bobby Brown may soon be saying bye to the ’80s-set “Stranger Things,” but the Netflix staple star isn’t traveling far in time (or space) for her upcoming film “The Electric State.”
Brown leads the adventure feature alongside Marvel alum Chris Pratt, who reunites with his “Avengers: Endgame” co-directors Anthony and Joe Russo for the 1990s-set film. Brown plays Michelle, an orphaned teen who is navigating life in a society where sentient robots resembling cartoons and mascots live in exile after a failed uprising. Yet after Michelle befriends lovable robot Cosmo, who appears to be controlled by her maybe-dead younger brother, she sets out to find the truth about what really happened to her family.
Of course, Brown’s co-star Pratt seems to be continuing his “Guardians of the Galaxy” alter ego by once again playing a futuristic smuggler.
The official synopsis reads: “Determined to find the beloved sibling she thought she had lost,...

In the "Simpsons" episode "The Yellow Lotus", the titular family finds themselves staying at a high-end resort. Unbeknownst to the hotel staff, the Simpsons are squatting there, sleeping in a luggage suite that is being used by a very wealthy guest: the new wife of their old nemesis, Sideshow Bob (Kelsey Grammer). As "Simpsons" fans can tell you, shenanigans will inevitably ensue. Oh yes, and murder. Murder will possibly ensue. The episode begins with Home and Marge finding a dead body in the ocean.
As with most "Simpsons" plots, the explanation as to how our heroes came to be at the resort is a little convoluted. It seems that Marge (Julie Kavner) and Homer (Dan Castellaneta) have been investing in a timeshare for the last decade, having begun when Marge was still pregnant with Bart. When the time finally comes for the family to enjoy their timeshare vacation, they find...

Al Pacino has had a long and storied career, one filled with iconic roles from Michael Corleone in Francis Ford Coppola’s “The Godfather” to Jimmy Hoffa in Martin Scorsese’s “The Irishman,” but his perhaps most defining performance was as Tony Montana in Brian De Palma’s 1983 remake of “Scarface.” With a screenplay by Oliver Stone, the film is recognized as a shifting point for representations of violence and drugs on screen, but also marks a turn in Pacino’s own acting style as well, bringing a go-for-broke energy to Tony that at time, makes him feel like he’s from another planet. Speaking to The New York Times Magazine for their podcast “The Interview,” Pacino shared that while he continues to stand by the film, over the years, he’s had many peer question why he chose to take part in it, particularly “Amadeus” director Miloš Foreman.

Sideshow Bob first appeared on "The Simpsons" in the episode "The Telltale Head", merely as a background character on "The Krusty the Clown Show." That episode was significant, as it was also the first appearance of Krusty the Clown (Dan Castellaneta), Reverend Lovejoy (Harry Shearer), the bullies Dolph, Jimbo, and Kearny, and Apu (Hank Azaria).
Only a few episodes later, however, Sideshow Bob (Kelsey Grammer) would star in "Krusty Gets Busted", an episode that saw the TV sidekick framing his clown employer, Krusty, for armed robbery. It seems that Bob, a professionally trained actor, resented having to play second-fiddle to an ungrateful star, and wanted revenge. Ultimately, it was Bart (Cartwright) who figured out Bob's scheme and who exonerated Krusty. Bob began hating Bart and began plotting revenge from prison.

"The Simpsons" is entering its 36th season this year, and if you're expecting any major changes to the longest running sitcom in television history, you probably aren't a fan of "The Simpsons" because nothing ever changes in Springfield. Aside from killing off a handful of characters (most notably Maude Flanders and Edna Krabappel) and retiring the Kwik-e-Mart proprietor Apu Nahasapeemapetilon (in response to criticism that he'd long been voiced by white actor Hank Azaria), the constantly quarreling middle-class brood and their motley crew of neighbors, coworkers, and classmates are virtually unchanged in appearance and temperament 30-plus years later.
Given how much our world has changed over this time frame, you might expect this to be kind of problematic. Well, it kind of is. When "The Simpsons" dropped Apu, they lost one of their few recurring characters of color, and the series has remained steadfast in its devotion to not creating...

Donald Trump‘s baseless claims that immigrants are eating people’s cats and dogs in Springfield, Ohio, has caused quite a stir online, and now The Simpsons’ star Hank Azaria has jumped into the action. The meme-worthy comments stemmed from the former president’s debate against Vice President Kamala Harris on Tuesday, September 10, where Trump said, “In Springfield, they’re eating the dogs, the people that came in. They’re eating the cats. They’re eating the pets of the people that live there. This is what’s happening in our country, and it’s a shame.” These unfounded claims quickly went viral online, with many people creating jokes and memes from Trump’s comments. In particular, people shared clips and images from The Simpsons, which is set in the fictional town of Springfield. “In Springfield, they’re eating the dogs. They’re eating the cats.” pic.twitter.com/vHcyvxoBDC...

The 2024 Creative Arts Emmys has handed out its first night of awards.

Saturday’s big winners included Jim Henson Idea Man, Saturday Night Live, Billy Joel: The 100th — Live at Madison Square Garden, Welcome to Wrexham and The 96th Oscars, which each took home multiple trophies. Angela Bassett also landed her first Emmy win (after nine nominations) for narrating Nat Geo docuseries Queens, and The Traitors‘ Alan Cumming broke RuPaul’s record-setting winning streak for reality or competition program host.

Foy has been the odds-on favorite in Best Drama Guest Actress this whole time, buoyed by her shocking win three years ago in the same category.
