In 2011, French thesps Omar Sy and Anne Le Ny co-starred in the comedy hit “Untouchable.” Now, the two are reunited in the domestic thriller “Out of Control,” with “Lupin” star Sy in one of the leading roles next to Elodie Bouchez, José Garcia and Vanessa Paradis, while Le Ny serves as director and Axella Cachman’s co-writer.
“There was a real bond and warmth between us then, which was easy to revive 13 years later,” says Le Ny, who shared the screen time with Matt Damon in “Stillwater” and earned her first writing/helming kudos for her breakthrough movie “Those Who Remain” (2008).
Her seventh pic as helmer, “Out of Control (“Dis moi juste que tu m’aimes”) world premieres at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival official competition on Nov. 16, is being produced by Move Movie’s Bruno Levy, in co-production with Sy’s production company Korokoro, France 2 Cinéma and La Compagnie Cinématographique & Panache Productions,...

This weekend, Jesse Eisenberg returns to the big screen in A Real Pain. The film, which he wrote, directs, and stars in, follows a man struggling to keep his emotions on check during a trip with his cousin. A Real Pain has drawn considerable praise for Eisenberg’s subdued directing, brilliant writing, and Kiernan Culkin’s livewire performance. It bodes well for Eisenberg, who has been one of indie films darling performers for years. To celebrate his latest career milestone, we’re highlighting seven of his best performances to date.
The Squid and the Whale (2005)
As a young actor, Jesse Eisenberg landed on many radars for his emotional performance in The Squid and the Whale. Told from the perspective of two children struggling with their parent’s divorce, Noah Baumbach gave Eisenberg a role that required incredible pathos. With several standout scenes that could have easily been accused of overacting,...

Miyagi-Do might feel a little overwhelmed in Barcelona upon arrival to the Sekai Taikai tournament.
Part 2 of the final season of “Cobra Kai” is all about the international Sekai Taikai tournament, and after a rocky selection process back in The Valley on who’d be attending the final squad was set. The roster looks like this: Robby (Tanner Buchanan) and Sam (Mary Mouser) are the captains joined by Miguel (Xolo Maridueña), Hawk (Jacob Bertrand), Demetri (Gianni DeCenzo), and Devon (Oona O’Brien).
“Cobra Kai” showrunners Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg told TheWrap that the team makeup and uptick in overall skill makes Miyagi-Do underdogs once again.

It’s late into the evening when Louis Partridge finally finds time to talk to The Hollywood Reporter.
The British star is shooting House of Guinness, a new Netflix series from Peaky Blinders mastermind Steven Knight. Partridge explains that he is playing a young Edward Guinness, effortlessly transitioning into a spot-on Dublin accent as he speaks: “It’s a posh, Dublin, Rp in 1869, so he talked like that. It’s not like the Dublin that you hear today, which is more like [boxer] Conor McGregor.”
As you read on, you’ll see the young actor has a knack for impressions. His acting chops are landing him bigger and bigger roles. Partridge’s big break came with Netflix’s mystery movie Enola Holmes, starring opposite Millie Bobby Brown as her love interest. At just 21, he’s now worked with the likes of Danny Boyle, Paul King, and is set to star in...

Imagine a movie where Margot Robbie and Emma Mackey share a meta moment about their uncanny resemblance—sounds like a cinematic dream, right? The Barbie movie almost went there but ultimately decided to pull the plug on the doppelgänger joke. Here’s why this inside gag didn’t cut.
Fans have long noticed the striking resemblance between Robbie and Mackey, especially after an Instagram post by @morphy_me went viral in 2019. The post morphed their faces together hilariously and seamlessly, sparking a frenzy online and leaving everyone wondering: Are these two secretly twins?
In a recent interview with BuzzFeed, Robbie revealed the playful banter behind the scenes. “I’ve been getting told for years that I look like the girl from Sex Education, Emma Mackey,” she admitted. It was clear that the joke had potential.

Production designer Jess Gonchor has worked on some of the most acclaimed and rewatchable movies over the last two decades, including every feature film directed by Bennett Miller, every Joel and Ethan Coen movie from “No Country for Old Men” through “The Ballad of Buster Scruggs,” and notable one-off titles such as “The Devil Wears Prada,” Greta Gerwig’s “Little Women,” Noah Baumbach’s “White Noise,” and John Krasinski’s recent hit “If.”
“To be a production designer, you have to become an expert in a subject in a very short amount of time. So when I get a job on something, I start researching it immediately,” Gonchor tells Gold Derby.
But for his latest project, Jason Reitman’s “Saturday Night,” Gonchor was already well-versed in the material. The film is about the first-ever “Saturday Night Live” episode and unfolds in real-time as the clock hits 11:30 p.m. on...

Lady Gaga’s Joker: Folie à Deux and Adam Driver’s Megalopolis are currently locked in a box office competition. Both films were released a week apart, but their theatrical performances couldn’t be more different from one another. It’s no secret that Joker 2, despite its appalling reviews, is riding on the success of a huge IP and its 2019 predecessor, Joker‘s success.

Tod Phillips’ magnum opus has already earned a whopping $121 million at the worldwide box office, on a $200 million budget, despite releasing a week after Megalopolis. On the other hand, Francis Ford Coppola’s ambitious sci-fi drama is stumbling at merely $8.5 million worldwide earnings on an enormous $120 million budget. This all has got us wondering how differently Gaga and Driver’s careers have gone since their $153 million blockbuster House of Gucci.

The Corrections could finally make it to the small screen — with Meryl Streep attached to headline.
Deadline has confirmed that Streep is set to star in the project from CBS Studios. Author Jonathan Franzen is adapting the 2001 novel chronicling a Midwestern couple and their adult children.
CBS Studios, which is producing with wiip, will take out the project soon. Franzen, wiip’s Mark Roybal and Nicole Clemens, formerly of Paramount TV Studios), will exec produce.
There’s been a previous attempt to bring the book to the small screen. In 2011, HBO ordered a pilot from Noah Baumbach. Scott Rudin, who had been developing the project for a decade, originally as a feature, was set to executive produce with Baumbach and Franzen. The pilot starred Chris Cooper, Dianne Wiest, Ewan McGregor, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Rhys Ifans and Greta Gerwig.
The following year, however, HBO declined to move forward. Puck first reported the news.

That Ending Of ‘His Three Daughters’ And The Habit of Bold Narrative Shifts in American Indie Cinema
Let me get into this straightaway. [Spoilers Ahead] During the climax of His Three Daughters, Jay. O. Sanders’ Vincent, aka the father, doesn’t magically get better and give that monologue to his daughters right before his death. Given the condition of his health throughout the movie, that seems quite impossible. Makes sense that didn’t happen, then. What really happened was that Katie, Christina, and Rachel took their father to his favorite lounge chair, where he died. Before his death, though, Vincent did briefly regain consciousness, but that’s about it. However, the important thing here is that the man actually got to see his three daughters united on one front while they were carrying him to his favorite plush chair. That’s the memory he left with, which does matter a lot here.
What exactly happened then? Well, Azazel Jacobs’ film took a sudden narrative shift where you, the audience,...

The cast includes Mary Steenburgen and Ed Harris, while Stiller and former tennis champion Andy Roddick will have key supporting roles.
Johnson is coming off Self Reliance, his feature-length directorial debut that he also wrote and stars in. Josh Greenbaum will direct The Dink from an original screenplay from Sean Clements, with production to start in Los Angeles in November.
John Lesher and Stiller are producing through their Red Hour Films banner, alongside Rivulet’s Rob Paris and Mike Witherill. Johnson will also produce. Stiller and Rivulet Films most...

One of the brightest bulbs in the New Hollywood marquee was former film critic and historian Peter Bogdanovich. Exploding onto the scene in 1968 with the still-topical mass-shooter thriller “Targets,” Bogdanovich followed this breakout success with a slew of successful films, including “The Last Picture Show,” which earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Director, the screwball comedy “What’s Up, Doc?,” and the Depression-set road movie “Paper Moon.”
But for as much success as he could find early on in his career, what goes up must come down, and during the latter half of the 1970s, he struggled to keep his initial spark aflame. Finally, moving further away from the studio system, Bogdanovich scaled back his approach, shooting an adaptation of Paul Theroux’s “Saint Jack” on location in Singapore with German cinematographer Robby Müller and actor Ben Gazzara. Though the film struggled at the box office, it fared well...

Steven Spielberg’s currently putting together the cast for his 2026 event film, The Dish. The Perfect Couple’s Eve Hewson could be about to join.
Irish actor Eve Hewson is the latest potential addition to The Dish, Steven Spielberg’s secretive project due out in 2026. Most recently seen in Netflix miniseries The Perfect Couple, Hewson is said to be in “early talks” to appear in Spielberg’s film according to a report at Deadline.
Hewson therefore joins Emily Blunt, Colin Firth and Josh O’Connor on the short list of actors who are said to be in the running to join Spielberg’s first movie since his 2022 drama, The Fabelmans.

2019 was a great year for Scarlett Johansson. Apart from being part of the phenomenal Avengers: Endgame, which was the highest-grossing film of all time for a while, she received her first and second Oscar nominations. The actress headlined Noah Baumbach’s divorce drama Marriage Story, for which she received an Oscar nomination for Best Actress.
While the same year she also got the nod for Best Supporting Actress in Jojo Rabbit, her performance as Nicole Barber, an actress going through a divorce, has many wondering how she missed the win. The film also starred Adam Driver, who was nominated for Best Actor, and Laura Dern, who beat Johansson for Best Supporting Actress.

There was a time when Ben Stiller might have starred in a movie like “Nutcrackers,” full of fart jokes and poop jokes and unruly kids. And there was a time when David Gordon Green might have directed a movie like this, back before he veered into three films in the rebooted “Halloween” franchise followed by “The Exorcist: Believer.”
But on opening night of the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival, that time came again for Stiller and Green in “Nutcrackers,” the movie that found both men in territory that had grown unfamiliar for them in recent years.
“I thought, ‘Wouldn’t it be radical if you made a movie without viciousness or cynicism?’” Green told the audience at the Princess of Wales Theatre for the first of two opening-night screenings on Thursday. To do so, he crafted a story that sounds like a gender-swapped, romance-deprived version of about 85% of all the Hallmark...

The Toronto Film Festival on Thursday returned post-strikes with Hollywood star wattage as Ben Stiller and director David Gordon Green gave a glittering lift-off for their opening night film Nutcrackers.
Gordon Green introduced Stiller to the crowd at Roy Thomson Hall in the Canadian city that looked primed for film fest fun with the opening night comedy. The Zoolander and Tropic of Thunder star then recalled making movies in Canada.
“When people will talk to me sometimes about the Night at the Museum movies, they’ll say, Wow, what’s it like to shoot in the Museum of Natural History? And I’ll say it was actually a warehouse in Vancouver,” Stiller recounted.
“I’ve made a bunch of movies in Canada, and it’s always been an amazing experience,” Stiller added. His comments followed Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau touting Canada as a foreign location destination for Hollywood. “Our...

While his films have ranged from the sublime to the atrocious, there’s no denying the impact Brian De Palma has had on cinema. Let’s take a look back at 20 of his greatest films, ranked worst to best.
De Palma began his filmmaking career directing underground features shot on a shoestring, many of which starred a young Robert De Niro. He came into his own with the Hitchcock-inspired thriller “Sisters” (1973), starring Margot Kidder as a pair of killer Siamese twins. The Master of Suspense would serve as a muse to De Palma throughout his career, influencing such films as “Obsession” (1976), “Dressed to Kill” (1980), “Blow Out” (1980) and “Body Double” (1984) both in style and substance.
He enjoyed his first box office success with “Carrie” (1976), an adaptation of Stephen King’s chilling novel about a shy teenager (Sissy Spacek) with telekinesis. The film brought Oscar nominations to Spacek and Piper Laurie...

The Toronto International Film Festival 2024 is kicking off on Thursday night, and people strolling through its streets can already see that the Canadian metropolis is ready to roll.
People started taking waiting positions for fan zone spots on Thursday, the poutine and other food trucks opened up, and movie posters and other marketing messages have taken over the streets of the city.
For example, a Lego figure, put up to promote Piece by Piece, the animated documentary about singer, songwriter and record producer Pharrell Williams that recently opened the 51st Telluride Film Festival, greeted people in David Pecault Square on Thursday, and people could be spotted taking pictures of it.

When Tell Me Lies debuted in the fall of 2022, no one was sure how it would do. The Hulu series, about a toxic relationship between two students at a fictional college, was the first project to come out of Emma Roberts’ adaptation-focused first-look deal at the streamer and featured a cast of relatively unknown — at the time — actors. But then, very quickly, star Grace Van Patten began to notice something strange; when she walked around Los Angeles with Jackson White (who plays the other half of the aforementioned toxic relationship), girls were rolling down their car windows or stopping them on the sidewalk to scream at her to get away from White, as if the world of the show were real.
“It felt like we were on a reality show,” Van Patten says. “It was cool that people were so invested in these characters — but also a little scary because...

Chris Evans couldn’t believe that none of the scenes in Scarlett Johansson’s critically acclaimed movie were improvised. Johansson shared with Evans that Noah Baumbach, the director of Marriage Story, was very specific about every spoken word in his film. Evans, who compared the film to theater, was surprised and shared that Baumbach and Johansson deserved Oscars for the film.

IndieWire attended the New York City premiere of “Adam Sandler: Love You” on Tuesday, August 20. Following “Adam Sandler: 100% Fresh” from 2018, the actor and comedian returns to Netflix for his latest stand-up special, directed by none other than Josh Safdie.
Reuniting with one of his “Uncut Gems” directors, Sandler told IndieWire that being directed by Safdie for this special was a very, very collaborative experience. “He was very hands on,” Sandler told IndieWire. “Right when he became a part of it, he had thought after thought, and I thought I was just going to do a standard stand up special. I had an act that I’ve been working on and all my stuff [prepped], and then Josh came up with some ideas that were different than that.”
At the end of last year, it was reported that Sandler was set to make his reunion with his 2019 crime thriller directors with a “live baseball” film.

When cinematographer Bradford Young was fresh out of Howard University, he would have done anything to get near the set of his idol Harris Savides. He eventually found a way to shoot behind-the-scenes footage for the French director Fabian Barron, who hired Savides to shoot an Armani fragrance commercial in Hawaii. With his Emmy-nominated Netflix special The Old Man and the Pool, Mike Birbiglia digs deep into our sense of mortality and meaning, while literally lying on stage in true confessional comedic style and going out with a ‘bang’. Birbiglia has honed his career out of deep honesty and the importance of “sharing secrets”, as his work has traversed such revelatory topics as reluctant fatherhood and terrifying health scares. Looking back at the path that led him to his ‘specials’ specialty, Birbiglia explains his reluctance to venture into sitcom territory, his love of working with This American Life producer Ira Glass with whom he made the film Don’t Think Twice and Sundance hit Sleepwalk With Me, the SNL star who pushed him in college, and the importance of paying it all forward.

George Clooney is 63 years old and approaching things differently when it comes to acting. In a joint cover story for GQ magazine alongside his “Wolfs” co-star Brad Pitt, the Oscar winner called “time allotment” a huge deciding factor in the projects he takes on at this stage in his career. If he’s going to go away for half the year to act, then he’s not going to put himself through hell. Clooney said he only wants to work with “people who like what they do.”
“The older you get, time allotment is very different,” Clooney said. “Five months out of your life is a lot. And so it’s not just like, ‘Oh, I’m going to go do a really good film, like “Three Kings,” and I’m going to have a miserable fuck like David O. Russell making my life hell. Making every person on the crew’s life hell.

George Clooney participated in a joint cover story for GQ magazine along with his longtime friend and co-star Brad Pitt ahead of the release of their new film “Wolfs,” and he got quite candid when discussing the state of movie stars in Hollywood. Clooney playfully fired back at Quentin Tarantino, who directed Pitt to an Oscar in “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” and allegedly shaded Clooney recently by claiming that he is not still a movie star. Clooney and Tarantino shared the screen together in 1996’s “From Dusk Till Dawn.”
“Quentin said some shit about me recently, so I’m a little irritated by him,” Clooney said. “He did some interview where he was naming movie stars, and he was talking about [Brad], and somebody else, and then this guy goes, ‘Well, what about George?’ He goes, he’s not a movie star.
