Das nächste filmische Kapitel in der Riddick-Saga mit Vin Diesel in der Hauptrolle wird in Bayern als deutsch-britische Koproduktion realisiert. "Alien 3" is one of the more controversial "Alien" movies. For one thing, the development of the project went through fits and starts. For another, David Fincher, who made his feature directorial debut on the sequel, had notorious behind-the-scenes problems and has more or less disowned the movie entirely. And then there's the fact that the film is unapologetically bleak, including an opening that kills off fan-favorite characters like space Marine Hicks and precocious child Newt. Just to seal the deal, the movie then ends by killing off Sigourney Weaver's Ripley, who was the franchise's main character.
All that said, the film still has its fans. But even when you take into account the fact that "Alien 3" has its supporters, it's not unfair to say the film is flawed and not held in as high regard as Ridley Scott's original "Alien" or James Cameron's blockbuster sequel "Aliens.

Although eleven years have passed since the release of the third film in the Riddick franchise, star Vin Diesel has always kept hope alive that he would someday be re-teaming with franchise mastermind David Twohy on another Riddick adventure. Back in May, we learned that Riddick: Furya was scheduled to start filming on August 26th – and during the build-up to the start of production, Diesel has been sharing behind-the-scenes images and video on social media that show him getting back into character as Riddick. You can check them out at the bottom of this article.
Riddick: Furya will be a continuation of the sci-fi action franchise that began with the creature feature Pitch Black back in 2000. That was followed by the epic The Chronicles of Riddick, which underperformed at the box office in 2004, so they reduced the scope for the third film, Riddick, which was released in 2013. You might want to smash your head on the wall after learning about all the journeys that led to Waterworld’s creation, a tale rich with sorts of twists and turns. The tumultuous trip of the film’s high seas production is storied, but with the tense involvement of two Kevins—director Kevin Reynolds and lead Kevin Costner—the astronomical costs and the perilous sets, are not as often recounted as its origin story.
The production of Waterworld was just drawn out; the script was initially penned by Peter Rader in the 1980s. Around this period, a number of tales served as inspiration for the movie, including those of Mad Max. The film had already been rewritten multiple times by the time Reynolds and Costner were attached.

For most fans, Vin Diesel’s name is closely associated with the Fast & Furious franchise that, as divisive as it is, has been successfully running since 2001. But the F&f’s story ends with the upcoming 11th installment, and Diesel knows exactly what he wants to do next: he will bring back an overlooked yet beloved sci-fi movie series that has been deemed complete for over 10 years now.
Vin Diesel Is Working on Riddick: Furya
An ambiguous and divisive as the original Riddick trilogy was, it still has a solid fan base to this day, and Vin Diesel is planning to capitalize on that. According to Deadline, the star has already set all arrangements in place, and the production of the fourth installment titled Riddick: Furya begins on August 26, 2024.

You might think that Vin Diesel would be mostly focused on finishing the Fast & Furious franchise at this point, with the reportedly last movie still sitting in the development garage. But it appears another of his recognizable characters has overtaken Dom Toretto in the race to screens – Richard B. Riddick. Riddick: Furya is now in line to shoot in August.
The Riddick character originated in 2000's Pitch Black, which saw him and a group of survivors of a crashed spaceship tackling bloodthirsty critters that hunt by night — as the planet they're stranded on is thrust into a long night by an eclipse. He was further explored by 2004's The Chronicles Of Riddick and 2013's Riddick.
Writer/director David Twohy, who has been on the Riddick journey alongside Diesel since the first movie, is back for Furya, which sees the character finally return to his home world, a place he barely remembers at this point.

While Vin Diesel is known as the protagonist of the Fast & Furious franchise, he had his breakthrough with the sci-fi film franchise The Chronicles of Riddick. Beginning with Pitch Black, the franchise spawned two more sequels, short films, and video games. Diesel even turned producer of the threequel after trading the rights for the franchise for a cameo in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift.
The makers have now confirmed that a fourth film is in development. Diesel would be reprising his role as the mercenary Riddick in the film titled Riddick: Furya. The film would reportedly follow the character as he goes back to his homeworld, which finds its citizens fighting against a new monster.

Vin Diesel will be back for Riddick: Furya, ahead of filming Fast & Furious 11: more on the story right here.
Outside of the original Pitch Black movie, that introduced Vin Diesel as the character of Riddick on the big screen, there’s an argument that the terrific videogame The Chronicles Of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay is as good as the franchise has got on screen.
Certainly 2004’s mega-budget The Chronicles Of Riddick stumbled a little, and then a third movie, 2013’s Riddick, financially was more rewarding but still not top tier.
Nonetheless, Vin Diesel is not discouraged, and he’s reuniting with director David Twohy for a long-mooted fourth cinematic adventure for the character of Riddick. The film in question will be called Riddick: Furya, and the assumption was that it was going to slot in around production for the upcoming Fast & Furious 11.

After years of promises that it would happen, the fourth "Riddick" movie is, indeed, finally happening. Vin Diesel is set to return as the titular character in a new installment of the franchise titled "Riddick: Furya," with David Twohy again serving as director. For the fourth time since the turn of the millennium, Diesel will be playing in the sandbox that helped make him a movie star in the first place.
According to a press release, "Furya" will begin production on August 26, 2024, with filming set to take place in Germany, Spain, and the U.K. This brings the project full circle, as Diesel and Twohy have been trying to make it for some time. In 2019, the "Fast & Furious" star shared on Instagram that the script for "Riddick 4" was complete. It's taken nearly five years to get all of the ducks in a row but the duo has managed...

Whenever Vin Diesel wants to get away from family and live more than a quarter mile at a time, he revisits his other franchises. Diesel, an unapologetic sci-fi nerd, has always had a soft spot for his space anti-hero character, Riddick. Diesel will be following up on the previous entries with the upcoming Riddick: Furya. Deadline has now reported that this entry has just set its production start date on August 26th. This comes just as director Louis Leterrer confirmed that the eleventh Fast & Furious movie will not begin production until next year, which leaves Diesel open.
The plot of Riddick: Furya reads,
“Riddick finally returns to his home world, a place he barely remembers and one he fears might be left in ruins. But there he finds other Furyans fighting for their existence against a new monster. And some of these Furyans are more like Riddick than he could have ever imagined.

Vin Diesel is officially returning to the world of Pitch Black and galactic antihero Riddick, the sci-fi action franchise that gave the actor his first major leading role.
Riddick: Furya, which was announced in February 2023, is now moving full steam ahead toward an Aug. 26 shoot date, producers announced Monday. Diesel stars and produces the film, which reteams him with David Twohy, the filmmaker who has directed all of the franchise’s previous entries. Furya will film in locales such as Germany, Spain and the U.K.
Pitch Black, released by Universal in 2000, introduced Diesel as a captured criminal who, along with several other passengers, crash lands on a planet where sundown unleashes feral monsters. While the first one was made for $23 million, 2004’s The Chronicles of Riddick cost over $100 million, as the movie went big in scope. The route failed to excite audiences and it seemed like the movie series was over.

Christmas and Halloween reign supreme in terms of holiday-themed horror to the point that every other holiday pales in comparison when it comes to horror offerings. Easter does have a few selections to offer, but many of them don’t lean into any familiar holiday motifs. Then there are the horror films that get lumped in simply because the villain bears likeness to the Easter bunny. It can be slim pickings. That’s okay, though, because we really only need one solid horror movie to celebrate Easter with. One that isn’t afraid to spill some Easter bunny blood.
Critters 2: The Main Course is that definitive Easter horror movie.
Co-written by David Twohy (Warlock, Pitch Black) and director Mick Garris (The Stand, Masters of Horror), Critters 2 makes clever use of the holiday as a means to implement those remaining Crite eggs stashed away in a barn from the end of Critters.

I find it ironic how despite existing on a planet where pretty much every living thing originated in the ocean, one of humanity’s most widespread fears is thalassophobia – the fear of the deep ocean. Whether it’s some form of genetic memory that continues to haunt our species or a natural reaction to witnessing one of the deadliest ecosystems in the world, it’s no surprise storytellers have been taking advantage of this fear for millennia.
And while Jaws obviously dominates the conversation when it comes to underwater horror in film, there are still some intrepid filmmakers that dare to explore other kinds of sea-borne thrills. For example, Deep Blue Sea director Renny Harlin’s upcoming Deep Water looks like it’s going to take us on another roller-coaster ride directly into shark-infested waters. After taking a look back at House II: The Second Story (a favorite of mine since childhood), House of 1000 Corpses (which celebrated its 20th anniversary last year), the awesomeness of Tales from the Crypt Presents: Demon Knight, the leg smashing in the Stephen King adaptation Misery, three separate moments from John Carpenter’s Big Trouble in Little China, the “Jason vs. Tina” battle in Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood, and the “all hell breaks loose” sequence from the start of Zack Snyder’s Dawn of the Dead remake,

Vin Diesel's Riddick movies are an unusual franchise, driven by Diesel's love for the character and a desire to explore his world with series director David Twohy. Each entry is wildly different from the others, spanning different genres and even mediums, with a short detour into animation for "Riddick: Dark Fury." Riddick himself is a fun sci-fi creation, the last surviving member of an alien warrior race called Furyans, with reflective eyes that see in the dark. But where should newcomers to the franchise start, and what order should they watch the "Riddick" flicks in?
Thankfully the answer is fairly simple, dear reader, though which entries work best might vary from viewer to viewer. "Pitch Black" seems to be fairly universally beloved, but the other "Riddick" entries received more mixed receptions yet have their own cult followings. The movies are possible to enjoy on their own but might be a little confusing,...

The 2000s was a strange time for genre filmmaking and especially science fiction. While sci-fi cinema was in theory thriving, that was mainly thanks to the presence of franchises that were, in fact, their own mini-genres (like Star Wars and Star Trek). Then there were superhero films, always sort of a cousin to sci-fi, with the X-Men and Spider-Man series both exploding and the Marvel Cinematic Universe making its debut with Iron Man (2008) just as the decade came to a close.
But there were some top-shelf literary adaptations as well. Steven Spielberg’s A.I.: Artificial Intelligence (2001) was a flawed yet powerful expansion of a Brian Aldiss story while his War of the Worlds (2005) and Minority Report (2002) were outstanding takes on classic tales from H.G. Wells and Philip K. Dick (there might have been no sci-fi filmmaker more consistent at the time than The Beard). Other remakes or adaptations,...

Back in 2021, I started a recurring column here on Bloody Disgusting called The Silver Lining, where I’d try to find the good parts of movies that were generally considered “bad.” Not only did I have a lot of fun looking back on less-appreciated films while finding hidden nuggets of entertainment where there should only have been schlock, but these articles also taught me to take in the good with the bad when watching genre pictures that at least tried to do something different.
I was reminded of this lesson while revisiting Warlock: The Armageddon this past week, as I believe this strange little film contains both the best and the worst moments of the Warlock franchise in an unexpected blend of sheer creative madness and aggressively bland characters. Despite how prevalent they are in spooky media, you’d be surprised at how rare it used to be for traditionally recognizable witches to be the main antagonists in scary movies. Sure, we got the eerie crones of the pseudo-documentary Haxan and even a dancing coven in Suspiria, but for the longest time, witches were relegated to humorous stereotypes akin to the Sanderson Sisters rather than anything truly terrifying. It’s only recently that modern classics like The Witch and Gretel and Hansel have made potions and broomsticks scary again, revisiting the disturbing origins of these myths in ways that genre films of the 20th century simply couldn’t handle.
There are a few exceptions to this rule, however, and one of my favorites just so happens to be a bizarre trilogy that dared to ask what would happen if a potion-brewing maniac from the early days of America found himself transported to modern times.

(Welcome to Tales from the Box Office, our column that examines box office miracles, disasters, and everything in between, as well as what we can learn from them.)
It's safe to say that Vin Diesel is an actor who has made the most out of every single opportunity given to him. From voicing Groot in Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy" franchise -- a role that requires him to say just three words over and over again most of the time (and in multiple languages) -- to leading the "Fast & Furious" series as Dom Toretto, Diesel has generated more than $14 billion at the box office through the movies he's starred in. Yet, it is a modest, mid-budget hit from a decade ago that remains arguably the most fascinating thing he's ever done. With 2013's "Riddick," Diesel used every tool at his disposal to bring a passion project to fruition.

When Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert sat down at the end of 1993 to pick their 10 favorite movies of the year, they largely selected prestige, Oscar-bait films like The Piano, The Age of Innocence, The Joy Luck Club, and Schindler’s List. They skipped nearly all of the big multiplex hits of the year, including Jurassic Park, Sleepless in Seattle, and Mrs. Doubtfire, making an exception only for The Fugitive. It’s an honor they didn’t give to Die Hard in 1988, The Terminator in 1984, Aliens in 1986, or many other great action movies of the VHS era.

When it comes to adapting a classic TV show to the big screen, it doesn’t get much better than Andrew Davis’ The Fugitive. Indeed, the third highest-grossing film of 1993 proved to be a monumental critical and commercial hit that earned more than $370 million globally and was nominated for seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture. In addition to Tommy Lee Jones winning an Oscar for his indelible supporting turn as U.S. Marshall Sam Gerard, the film still boasts some of the most impressive action set pieces and stunning practical FX on record. The movie succeeds on multiple levels as a riveting manhunt thriller, an engrossing murder mystery, a compelling redemption story, an FX-driven action-adventure, and of course, a faithful TV adaptation that both honors the spirit of the original and also pushes the narrative forward into daring, unpredictable territory. Yet, for as nearly perfect a film as The Fugitive remains to this day,...

The 1963 TV series "The Fugitive" was a massive success in its initial four-season run, and became something of a pop cultural touchstone. The premise was a grabber: Dr. Richard Kimble (David Janssen) has been arrested and convicted for the murder of his wife, a crime he didn't commit. Dr. Kimble slips the authorities and goes on the lam, eager to track down the real killer and prove his innocence. All he knew was that the killer had one arm. On Dr. Kimble's tail -- the Javert to his Valjean -- was Lieutenant Philip Gerard (Barry Morse), who didn't much care if Kimble was guilty or innocent; he merely sought to apprehend him and let the law work itself out.
30 years later, "The Fugitive" would be adapted into a massively successful and acclaimed feature film starring Harrison Ford as Kimble and Tommy Lee Jones as the re-named Sam Gerard, a U.

Vin Diesel has two movies coming out this month. He has provided the voice of Groot for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (read our review Here), and he’s back in the role of Dominic Toretto for Fast X. But while he’s attending events and doing press to promote those projects, he’s also looking forward to getting to work with writer/director David Twohy on Riddick: Furya, the fourth film in their Riddick franchise. He has shared Furyan concept art on his Instagram account before, and now he has unveiled another piece of concept art. You can check it out at the bottom of this article.

When "Alien 3" was released in 1992, it was roundly bashed by critics, met with uproar by fans, and later disowned by its director, David Fincher. Despite this, the troubled production and intrigue around Fincher's original vision have made it a constant source of fascination for "Alien" aficionados. One of the many subplots was the input of David Twohy, one of several writers involved in the film and whose biggest contribution was the setting of a prison planet populated by shaven-headed criminals.
Things didn't work out for Twohy on "Alien 3," but he got a chance to revisit that idea when he was offered the chance to rework and direct a screenplay that bore similarities to the "Alien" movies. Its most interesting character would become a vicious criminal named Richard B. Last month, it was announced that Vin Diesel and writer/director David Twohy are about ready to get rolling on Riddick: Furya, the fourth film in the Riddick franchise and a project that Diesel has been regularly mentioning pretty much ever since the third movie was released ten years ago, doing his best to keep the Riddick hype alive. His efforts must be working, because shortly after last month’s announcement all three of the previous Riddick movies cracked the Netflix top 10 in the United States. Pop Culture reported that, at one point, the Riddick movies were ranking in the top 10 in reverse order: “Riddick stands at number four, Chronicles of Riddick at number seven and Pitch Black at number nine.” So Diesel took to Instagram to celebrate the Netflix success of the films while mentioning that he’s working to get Riddick 4 into production.

In the 2000 film "Pitch Black," star Vin Diesel plays a convict being transported to a prison on a spaceship when it's damaged and lands on a desert planet. Though it looks deserted and continually bathed in light, there are dangerous creatures there that come out only in the dark. That would be fine ... if an eclipse wasn't happening. The crew and passengers, including an Imam and his followers, a person looking for a new home, a bounty hunter, and an antique dealer, now have to fight off these creatures, and not everyone survives.
The film was a sleeper hit, making $53 million worldwide on a $23 million budget, according to Box Office Mojo. The film spawned two sequels, "The Chronicles of Riddick" in 2004 and "Riddick" in 2013. Both films also starred Diesel, with David Twohy directing all three. Officially announced just a couple weeks back, Vin Diesel will return in Riddick: Furya, the upcoming fourth installment in the Riddick franchise that’s being directed by David Twohy.
In the new film, Riddick finally returns to his home world, a place he barely remembers and one he fears might be left in ruins by the Necromongers.
But there he finds other Furyans fighting for their existence against a new enemy. And some of these Furyans are more like Riddick than he could have ever imagined.
David Twohy‘s 2000 film Pitch Black was our introduction to Vin Diesel as an action star, and the actor of course went on reprise the role of monster-killer Richard B. Riddick in 2004’s The Chronicles of Riddick and most recently, 2013’s Riddick. All three films are coming to Netflix in March 2023, we’ve learned this week, just in time for the fourth movie’s announcement.

Vin Diesel's career has grown exponentially since he first played the goggle-wearing badass, Richard B. Riddick, in the 2000 sci-fi film, "Pitch Black." That movie, along with the two other "Riddick" features after it, was written and directed by David Twohy. The first film, however, was much smaller in scale than its predecessor, 2004's "The Chronicles of Riddick." "Pitch Black" had a 23 million budget and focused on a small group of survivors trying not to get eaten by dark-loving creatures inhabiting the planet they crash landed on. "Chronicles," by comparison, had a whopping 105 million budget and was an sci-fi extravaganza full of planet-wide battles, a lot of CGI, and had Diesel coming to the aid of Judi Dench and her people who are being invaded by a cult-like empire called the Necromongers. The sequel barely made more than it cost worldwide, making it a definitive failure.

We all know Vin Diesel loves "da movies". We also know he's a fan of franchises. But before he got behind the wheel of the Fast & Furious films or into the voice booth for Guardians' Groot, he was Richard B. Riddick in 2000's breakout sci-fi hit Pitch Black more than 20 years (and two sequels) later, he's returning to the role for Riddick: Furya.
David Twohy, who co-wrote and directed Pitch Black and oversaw lesser 2004 sequel The Chronicles Of Riddick and return to stripped-back creature-feature roots Riddick in 2013, is once more pulling double duty, with Diesel set to star once more as the night vision-enhanced tough nut Riddick.
Following years of teases on particularly Diesel's social media, Riddick: Furya is coming together, its rights out for sale. There's no mention of regular distributor Universal, but a chance the studio will be involved down the line.

While Vin Diesel is the face and voice for Universal’s massively popular “Fast & Furious” films, he also has the sci-fi franchise “Riddick.” The trilogy, so far, has focused on a murderous space convict that is tough as steel and can see in the dark, giving him heightened senses. That character has been neglected over the last decade and stuck in hyper-sleep until now.

"Pitch Black" remains a banger. It's very early-2000s, for sure, but it's also peak Vin Diesel being a monster-killing badass. If you need a refresher, "Pitch Black" is a survival sci-fi horror movie about a transport that crashes on an alien planet where the survivors encounter deadly creatures that kill when the sun goes down. Among the ragtag group is a dangerous convict being transported by his cruel handler and so much of the movie rests on the mystery of this guy who wears goggles all the dang time.
Riddick was a perfect character for Vin Diesel, whose low, gravelly voice could really sound menacing and playful and it allowed him to fully embrace an anti-hero. Riddick is very much in the Snake Plissken mold. He's always looking out for himself, but he has a heart and can't be a complete bastard when people need him.
