A new satirical comedy is now streaming on Max that you are not going to want to miss this fall season. Here’s when new episodes of The Franchise will be available to stream.
We know that the fall season is known as the spooky season. Trust me, it’s my favorite time of the year. We can’t plenty of thrilling shows, dramas, true crime, and so many scary movies to watch. And thanks to streaming platforms, we can enjoy all of these from the comfort of our own home. But even fans of the genre need a break in between horrors, and this is why I love that we have The Franchise to turn to!
As much as I enjoy my scary movies and shows, I need a dose of laughs here and there, and after watching the first episode of The Franchise, I can report it fits...

It takes more than a village to make a movie; it’s more like a small army. And in the case of “The Franchise,” that army has a lot of faces you’ll recognize.
Streaming on Max and airing on HBO on Sundays, the comedy series tells the story of a film crew working to put together the next installment in a major (fictional) superhero franchise. Along the way, they run into the many hurdles of Hollywood, with the show lovingly poking fun at how real superhero films seem to be made.
Like we said, you’re going to see a lot of familiar actors, some of whom have actually starred in real-life franchises. We’ve rounded them up for you below.
Here’s who’s who in “The Franchise.”
Colin Hutton/HBO Daniel (Himesh Patel)
Daniel is the First Ad on the fictional movie “Tecto,” and he basically keeps things afloat in the series.

There aren’t too many new shows dropping on a streaming platform this week, but that’s okay because we’ve got plenty of recently released episodes to catch up on. For starters, we’ve got the reboot of Scare Tactics on USA Network, hosted by Jordan Peele. This is the perfect series to kick off the Spooky Season. But if you’re not into scary pranks, how about Heartstopper? Love and friendship are never out of style if you ask me. The third season is now streaming on Netflix.

Nicole Kidman might be the hardest-working actor in Hollywood, but does she currently have a fan-favorite show on both Disney+ and Netflix? Well, Joe Locke does. In addition to his turn in the witchy limited series “Agatha All Along,” the young actor reprises his role as Charlie, one-half of “Heartstopper’s” central couple, in the third season of Netflix’s queer coming-of-age drama. In this latest chapter — all eight episodes of which are now streaming — Charlie and Nick (Kit Connor) reach not one, but two romantic milestones in their ever-evolving relationship. Along the way, TV’s most unabashedly sincere show reminds viewers that there is, in fact, still some good in this world. So, as it proudly wears its heart and its emotions on its metaphorical sleeve, “Heartstopper” is the awards contender to watch this weekend.

‘The Franchise’ Stars on Mocking Superhero Movies and Showing “the Absurdity of Us All” in Hollywood
The Franchise, HBO’s newest series from Sam Mendes, Armando Iannucci and Jon Brown, takes a satirical look at the behind-the-scenes chaos of creating Hollywood’s big franchises, specifically when it comes to superhero movies.
“There’s so much truth in it you cannot believe it. The crazier it became, the more I felt, yeah, this stuff happens,” joked Daniel Brühl, who stars in the series as the superhero movie’s director, and in real life has played villain Helmut Zemo in Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
Though the actor explained his personal experience with the MCU was “such a well-oiled machine and there wasn’t that chaos and the absurdity,” Brühl remembered another film “that was a proper shitshow from the day I arrived.”
“I saw my miserable face every evening in the mirror thinking, ‘How am I going to survive this?...

HBO’s new comedy series The Franchise is about the making of Tecto: Eye of the Storm, a superhero movie for a barely-disguised version of Marvel Studios. Armando Iannucci has already skewered the world of politics with prescient series “Veep.” Now, the staple HBO showrunner is turning his satirical eye on Hollywood with workplace comedy series “The Franchise.”

The comedy series shines a light on the secret chaos inside the world of superhero moviemaking, to ask the question — how exactly does the cinematic sausage get made? With Method acting mocked and superhero stars juicing up with Hgh, “The Franchise” doesn’t hesitate to point out just how ridiculous working on big studio franchises really is.
The ensemble cast includes Aya Cash, Himesh Patel, Jessica Hynes, Billy Magnussen, Lolly Adefope, Darren Goldstein, and Isaac Powell; Richard E. Grant and Daniel Brühl are billed as recurring guest stars.

There’s a situation discussed in HBO’s upcoming series The Franchise — a comedy about the behind-the-scenes struggle to make a superhero movie — that sounds rather absurd: A director laboring away on a fictional Marvel-like film gradually realizes the studio brass has changed their mind about the project’s creative direction and started secretly shooting the “real” movie somewhere else, while he continues to film scenes destined to be scrapped.
Yet this has actually happened to at least one filmmaker working on a franchise movie, according to the show’s producers.
“All the research we did — and we did tons, we spoke to so many people — the actual chaos [on superhero films] was really surprising,” says The Franchise creator Jon Brown (Succession), who made the series along with Armando Iannucci (Veep) and Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes (1917). “People think these movies are laid out in neat phases for the next 10 years. Then you hear about a set where,...

Robert Downey Jr.’s Tropic Thunder is absolutely unhinged with its satirical take on the film industry. Despite its controversies, the film went on to become a cult classic with time. Now, it looks like there is another Tropic Thunder ready to grace our screens courtesy of Armando Lannucci and Sam Mendes – The Franchise starring Himesh Patel and Aya Cash amongst others.

HBO just dropped the trailer for The Franchise, and it is evident that the series is going to be a fun, light-hearted watch. Thanks to its sharp humor and scripted behind-the-scenes drama, The Franchise will attempt to take a jab at the film industry – much like Robert Downey Jr.’s film did back in 2008.

‘The Franchise,’ Superhero Comedy From ‘Veep’ Creator Armando Iannucci, Drops First Stressful Teaser
If you thought Marvel movies were stressful, you ain’t seen nothing yet. HBO dropped the first teaser for “The Franchise,” the premium cable network’s upcoming high-pressure comedy about creating a superhero franchise in Hollywood. The series will premiere on Oct. 6.
The upcoming show comes from Armando Iannucci, best known for creating “Veep” and “The Thick of It,” as well as Sam Mendes and Jon Brown.
“Just another 83 days, and then we’re done,” Himesh Patel as Daniel says in the teaser while rushing down a hall with people filing after him. “I’d savor every moment.”
As is typically the case with Iannucci’s work, it’s difficult to know how much of that statement is rooted in truth and how much is sarcasm thinly masking an impending mental breakdown. That manic tone continues throughout the teaser as characters call this movie everything from “a scrotum resting on...

A team trapped inside the dysfunctional hell of creating franchise superhero movies, at the end of the day the question they face is: is this Hollywood's new dawn or cinema's last stand? Is this a dream factory or a chemical plant? This sounds hilarious and this looks way, way better than Judd Apatow's The Bubble. The sci-fi genre has always been one of the most beloved among cinephiles as it gives us a new look at a particular technology or our world. There was a time when Max (formerly known as HBO Max) was the place for peak sci-fi shows but after taking off Westworld and Raised by Wolves from the service, and since then it has been lacking a bit regarding sci-fi shows. But still, we picked the seven best sci-fi shows that we could find on Max.

British historical comedy Seize Them is getting a physical media release, with the movie set for DVD and Blu-ray next month.
As much as we wanted to, and tried for many months on and off to do so, we weren’t able to cover the British comedy Seize Them! much in the end. Credit to its distributors though for putting the film out in cinemas, and now for backing that up with a physical media release as well.
Seize Them!, we’ve now had confirmed, will be arriving on DVD and Blu-ray in the UK on 24th June 2024. No 4K option, but we weren’t really expecting one. A good solid Blu-ray sounds like it might be just the ticket.
The film is available for preorder now. You can find more information on it, and order a copy, right here.

Characters from Twenty Twelve and W1A will reportedly return in a spin-off centred around FIFA. Here are the details.
Sarah Parish, who played Anna Rampton in the original comedy series W1A, has revealed on That Gaby Roslin Podcast that a spin-off show based on the FIFA international football association. was in the works. She also revealed that W1A co-star Hugh Bonneville would be reprising his role.
Though Parish said the show was being written according to the British Comedy Guide, she said she would not be in it, but that she suspected Hynes would return. There has been no official confirmation from the BBC, but it would fit with the previous series precedent of writing a comedy about a real forthcoming event, in this case the FIFA World Cup in 2026.

Scout a picturesque cliffside and fire up the wind machines because Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas are ready to feel the wind in their hair while serenading audiences for the musical comedy Power Ballad. The film starring Rudd and Jonas revolves around a wedding singer (Rudd), a rock star (Jonas), and the song that divides them. The project hails from 30West and Anthony Bregman’s Likely Story.
John Carney directs Power Ballad from a script he co-wrote with Peter McDonald, who wrote and directed the comedy short Pentecost and co-wrote The Bachelor Weekend with John Butler.
“We are so excited to bring John Carney’s next film to Cannes. John has a magic ability to weave great music into wonderfully engaging and universally relatable stories that make audience emotions run high,” said Alex Walton of WME. “Power Ballad is fun and heartwarming – themes that audiences crave today. His unique vision,...

It lasts roughly a minute and consists of only a handful of shots (and none of Edgar Wright’s trademark visual wizardry), yet the moment in Shaun Of The Dead when Simon Pegg’s hapless hero and his group of survivors round the corner and bump into another group is possibly the film’s most ambitious gag. Mainly because the other gang is played by a who’s who (then and now) of British comedy: Martin Freeman, Reece Shearsmith, Tamsin Greig, Spaced mainstay Julia Deakin, Matt Lucas and, at the vanguard, Pegg’s Spaced co-creator, Jessica Hynes. A finer cavalcade of cameos, you’ll never see.

Edgar Wright [co-writer/director]: We used to call it ‘Shaun Of The Dead Rosencrantz and Guildenstern’. You’re watching one story and the idea is, “What if they bumped into another film?”
