Indhira Serrano is a Colombian actress and producer. She began her career as a fashion model, which allowed her to obtain a close perspective on the influence advertising and media have in self-perception, particularly among young people. During the last 24 years, Indhira has established herself as one of the most important black actresses in Colombia and Latin America. Performing characters out of stereotypes, her breakthrough role was in the Venezuelan film Piel (1998) where she interpreted a well-educated dancer involved into an interracial relationship. She is well known for her performances on movies like Todos se van (2015) Paraiso Travel (2008) Retratos en un mar de mentiras (2007) y Love in the time of cholera (2007) and TV series as Azucar, Celia, El Clon, Flor Salvaje, Amor Sincero, Tres Milagros, Siempre bruja (Netflix) No fue mi culpa (Star+)
She has also performed in several plays at National Theater of Colombia including La leyenda de Maria Barilla (musical), Duda and The Vagina Monologues. She has been nominates as best supporting actress to Premios India Catalina and Premios Macondo.
In 2015, Indhira became a board member of Actores Sociedad Colombiana de Gestión for which she was elected as president from 2017-2019
In 2015, Indhira started Reconstruyendo Imaginarios; a campaign for personal self-acceptance and Recognition of Afro-Latina heritage and pride focused on respect for our differences. A passionate and accomplished speaker, Indhira is regularly invited to host discussion panels and to share her insights on TV, Radio and Social Media.
She has spoken at Festival Siembra Negro Pacífico for Afro-Colombian Entrepreneurial women at Chocó, El Observatorio Distrital Anti-discriminación Racial de Cartagena, VII, XIX Salón del Autor Audiovisual de la Cinemateca del Caribe, XX jornada de Derecho Constitucional de la Universidad Externado, organized and participated in the dialog session "Los Afrodescendientes en los medios de comunicación" With Sarah Glover, NAJB 21st president, Universidad Pontificia Javeriana and Afro-Colombian artists; and FORO M 2020 organized by the Vicepresidencia de la República de Colombia, among other high-profile government and political events.
In 2017 Latinegras Collective invite her to speak about Afro-Latin Experience in Latino Media at ASWAD 9th Biennal Conference (Association for the study of the Worldwide African Diaspora) at Sevilla, Spain.
In 2018 she co-wrote the essay "Call me Survivor" about her experience with Colorism, for the book "Pan African Spaces".
During Pandemic realized online conferences and dialog sessions for Universidad del Valle, Universidad de los Andes, Corporación Universitaria Rafael Nuñez, International Organization of Migration IOM, PAR Program young leaders and some private organizations and NGOs
In 2021, Indhira was Ambassador for USAID and ACDI VOCA Program of Alliances for Reconciliation (PAR) She is a founding member of Corporación Omenka, a Colombian association of Afro-Colombian actresses, producers and female directors. She traduced, co-produced and performed at the first Spanish version of the prize-winning Play by Lorraine Hansberry "A Raisin in the Sun" Indhira is also directing audio books and preparing for the 2022 launch of "Rosa la Crespa" her first Children's book.
