- Getting the story line is the toughest part - once you get a story line, hanging the jokes on it is easy for a comedy writer. It's a process that, on I Love Lucy (1951), we did backward. We would think of a funny last scene and work backward to make it logical. If it's not logical, people are going to say, 'That's silly'. The whole thing falls apart.
