There’s a new detective at Manhattan Svu.
Juliana Aidén Martinez has indefinitely joined the cast of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, starring alongside Mariska Hargitay’s Olivia Benson, Ice T’s Odafin Tutuola, Peter Scanavino’s Dominick Carisi, Octavio Pisano’s Joe Velasco and Kevin Kane’s Terry Bruno, who has been upped to season regular.
Martinez portrays Kate Silva, a former Brooklyn homicide detective whose father is the deputy police commissioner of the New York Police Department in the fictional world of the veteran Dick Wolf show. She was first introduced in the season 26 premiere and is already making strides within the squad.
Prior to landing the role of Kate, the actress starred alongside Sofía Vergara in Griselda. Her portrayal of the ground-breaking detective who brought down Griselda Blanco (aka the Cocaine Queen of Miami) garnered her an Imagen Award nomination for best supporting actress in a limited series.

Law and Order Svu Spoilers: Looks like Kelli Giddish will be reprising her role as Amanda Rollins in season 26 of the hit NBC Series. Fans will be excited to know that after her exit in S24, her return for a guest appearance in S25 was well received.
Kelli Giddish – Set To Return To Law And Order Svu Season 26
She’ll even be teamed up with Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) again! But as ecstatic as we are, it seems that now Rollins’s role has changed within the force.
She no longer works with the Svu Unit so much as the NYPD Intelligence Unit, executive producer and Showrunner David Graziano explained that it “is very different from the Intelligence Unit anywhere else, because the Intelligence Unit in New York has cops stationed in almost every country in the world, and so, Rollins is going to be traveling a lot as part of that job.

Law & Order: Svu made a controversial casting move recently. The show let Kelli Giddish go in a cost-cutting measure and wrote Amanda Rollins out of the series. This didn’t go over well with some other cast members. Mariska Hargitay, who playes Olivia Benson, made it clear she wasn’t happy and wanted Giddish back.
For at least a short time, Hargitay gets her wish.

Ice T is shutting down a Law & Order: Svu fan who claims the show has gone “woke.”
The rapper and star of the NBC procedural was asked on social media if the new season would go “back to normal” as “it started to go woke.”
In a quoted post on X, the microblogging platform formerly known as Twitter, Ice T said, “What the F is Woke? lol Like I give a F***.”

Law & Order Svu may have lost Christopher Meloni at one point. But his absence allowed for Mariska Hargitay to tinker around with new storylines, some involving potential love interests for her character. It’s Svu’s groundbreaking 25th season, and there’s something special in the air. “This is a historic, unprecedented year and an amazing gift for the fans, especially those that have been with the show for so long,” promises co-showrunner Julie Martin, who has been with the drama since 2011. A lot is familiar in this landmark season as the Special Victims team tracks down the perps of heinous sex crimes and metes out the usual much-deserved justice. But within the tried-and-true formula, the episodes also delve into self-reflection, healing, and life-changing decisions. For instance, the third installment has a rare uplifting ending, when insecure dermatologist Vincent Prochik not only accepts that he was raped, but also goes undercover and triumphantly helps take down the culprits, thereby transforming himself. Capt. Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) really does the heavy lifting, however, as the savior of many abused victims finally gazes inward to try to save herself.

Dick Wolf is in for another busy season at NBC. No surprise here, the Peacock network has renewed “Chicago Med,” “Chicago Fire,” “Chicago P.D.,” “Law & Order” and “Law & Order: Svu” for the 2024-25 broadcast TV season. Among Dick Wolf scripted series, that leaves just “Law & Order: Organized Crime” on the bubble; a renewal for that show, which has experienced multiple showrunner changes in its short life, is still in discussion.
Among the shows, this will rep the 26th season of “Law & Order: SVU,” the 24th season of “Law & Order,” Season 13 for “Chicago Fire,” the 12th season for “Chicago PD” and the 10th season for “Chicago Med.” All of the renewed series are produced by Universal Studio Group’s Universal Television division, along with Wolf Entertainment, and all shows stream the following day on Peacock. (Wolf’s deal with Universal is currently through 2027.)

NBC has renewed most — but not all — of the shows in its two biggest franchises for the 2024-25 season.
The network has ordered new seasons of all three of its Chicago dramas — Med, Fire and Pd — along with Law & Order and Law & Order: Svu. Notably missing from the list is Law & Order: Organized Crime, whose status is “still under discussion,” according to NBC. All six series come from Dick Wolf’s Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television.
Svu will add to its record as the longest-running primetime drama in American TV history with a 26th season in 2024-25, while Law & Order — which recently saw the departure of series fixture Sam Waterston — will air its 24th. Chicago Med will hit double digits with its 10th season, Fire will air its 13th and Pd its 12th.

The Writers Guild of America East is petitioning employers to ensure that protections are in place for journalists as AI technology develops.
The petition, signed by more than 1,000 members, calls for “immediate, good faith negotiations on AI,” including outside of scheduled contract bargaining, as well as “a guarantee that AI protections will be on the table in future bargaining.”
The petition also calls on employers to “publicly commit to never replacing a human worker with an AI tool,” something that has been a big concern among journalists, as well as film and TV writers in their recent strike.
President Joe Biden issued an executive order to try to establish protections for safety and security around AI, as well as an effort to mitigate its displacement of workers. But the labor provisions are limited to creating a set of best practices and principles, as further steps to preserve jobs likely would take congressional action.

Is Law & Order: Svu‘s “will-they-won’t-they” relationship between Benson and Stabler about to hit the next level? That’s what fans are hoping for after a tease from the show’s executive producer. Long-time viewers of the Dick Wolf crime-drama know Mariska Hargitay‘s Captain Olivia Benson has feelings for her former partner Detective Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni). However, those feelings have never been spoken out loud… until now. “I don’t ask a lot but can you at least tell us if Liv will mention to Someone. She’s in love with Stabler? Maybe Rollins before she leaves?” a fan asked exec producer Julie Martin on Twitter. Surprisingly, Martin responded directly with some great news. “She will talk to Rollins about her feelings for Stabler in Episode 9, Dec 8th,” Martin replied. This comes after last week’s Law & Order: Organized Crime episode, where Agent Tia Leonetti...

Law & Order: Svu Season 24’s second episode finds Benson in the Bronx for a sex-crimes case involving gang activity. As she tangles with the unit’s chief (Maurice Compte) over jurisdiction, she notices how skillfully his detective Grace Muncy empathizes with a young female victim. Impressed, says exec producer David Graziano, “Benson brings her into the Svu.” Mariska Hargitay herself suggested an emotional arc exploring “how Benson looks inward to recognize her trauma” — including her torture by psychopath William Lewis and perceived abandonment by Stabler — “and heal herself,” says fellow EP Julie Martin. The goal? “To become a better captain, friend and mother, and possibly consider a relationship.” Meanwhile, Martin predicts “bumps” for Det. Amanda Rollins (Kelli Giddish) and Ada Sonny Carisi (Peter Scanavino) but says, “Their love will prevail.” Still, Giddish is departing this season. David Graziano, who takes over showrunning duties on “Law & Order: Svu” from longtime executive producer Warren Leight, told TheWrap that Season 24 will be all about “healing and deep trauma” for Captain Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay), who’s been put through the wringer over the last two decades on the NBC show.
Graziano is thrilled to be working with Hargitay, who agreed it was time to deal with Benson’s considerable losses over the years. Kelli Giddish’s upcoming “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” exit was not her choice, nor was it a decision made by showrunner David Graziano, Variety has learned.
According to multiple sources, the “Svu” shake-up was a call made from above, with one insider noting that the company is always looking to keep the show as up to date and current as possible. Mariska Hargitay, who is both the star and an executive producer on the Dick Wolf drama, as well as at least one other producer pushed to keep Giddish on the procedural, but the decision had already been made.
Additionally, salary negotiations and her future on the show were part of the conversation and, ultimately, a compromise couldn’t be made.

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit is going to be down a detective in Season 24.
In a surprising move, Kelli Giddish has announced she is leaving her role as Detective Amanda Rollins after 12 seasons on the series.
This announcement comes just as NBC had announced a major crossover for all three Law & Order series to premiere on September 22.
The departure closes out Rollins’ fantastic run on the show, which saw her go from a newbie cop to a mother of two and a relationship with Ada Carisi (Peter Scanavino).
There is no word yet on when Giddish’s last episode will air or if she will have a replacement on the series.

Law & Order: Svu will say goodbye to one of its long-time regulars in the 2022-23 season.
Kelli Giddish will depart the show midway through the season — her 12th on the NBC drama. She joined Svu as Detective Amanda Rollins in its 13th season in 2011; her tenure is the third longest among the show’s current cast after Mariska Hargitay and Ice-t.
“I wanted to address the chatter I’ve seen online and let everyone know that this will, indeed, be my last season on Law & Order: Svu. Playing Rollins has been one of the greatest joys and privileges of my life. I’ve been so fortunate to be a part of the Law & Order family for the last 12 years,” Giddish said in a statement. “There is simply no other character on TV like Rollins. She’s grown and changed, and I have as well.

NBC’s Law & Order franchise will open the 2022-23 by doing something it has never done in its long history.
All three shows in the brand — the original L&o, Svu and Organized Crime — will come together for a single story spanning their season premieres on Sept. 22. It’s a first for Law & Order but not for executive producer Dick Wolf, whose teams have pulled off similar three-show events on NBC’s Chicago dramas and CBS’ FBI franchise.
Law & Order showrunner Rick Eid and Chicago Pd’s Gwen Sigan wrote the feature-length telecast. Franchise veteran Jean de Segonzac directs the first two hours; Alex Hall helms the third.
“Nothing demonstrates the power of the Law & Order brand more than an ambitious three-hour event with a story that is truly ripped from the headlines that starts on Organized Crime, then...

When Dick Wolf kicked off the “One Chicago” world on NBC in 2012 with “Chicago Fire” — a spinoff of the “Law & Order” universe — it was a bit of a boys’ club.
Derek Haas, Matt Olmstead and Michael Brandt led “Fire” as showrunners; less than two years later, “Chicago P.D.” premiered with Olmstead at the head. In 2015 came the third leg of the franchise with “Chicago Med” under Andrew Dettmann, Andrew Schneider and Diane Frolov. Dettmann exited after Season 1 and Schneider and Frolov, a married couple, have led it ever since.
Now, women are at the helm of all three shows.
For many years, Frolov was the first female showrunner on the franchise. Although they’d never met Wolf before, when they first sat down together, they pitched a pilot idea and he set up a meeting with the network.

Warren Leight is leaving Law & Order: Svu after serving as an executive producer and showrunner on the venerable NBC crime drama for the past three seasons. It was his second stint at the helm of the Wolf Entertainment series.
Leight announced his exit on Twitter Tuesday night, after wrapping production on the current 23rd season of Svu.
“The last two years of show running during a pandemic have been arduous, and I’ve decided to take a break,” Leight wrote on Twitter in a lengthy thread. (You can read it below)
Leight originally joined Svu at the beginning of Season 13 when the drama was at crossroads, having just lost its co-lead Christopher Meloni. He shifted the attention to Mariska Hargitay’s Olivia Benson and successfully rebuilt the show around her, giving it a new life. Leight rejoined Svu in 2019 for the show’s record-breaking 21st season.

Aidan Quinn will be back as Burton Lowe, Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay)’s former fiancé, in a May episode of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” a rep for the show confirmed to TheWrap on Tuesday.
He was first introduced in October’s “The Five Hundredth Episode,” although he had been mentioned before as the man who was engaged to Olivia when she was 16 and he was 21. During the episode, several women came forward to accuse Burton of grooming them for sexual assault when they were underage, although he was not charged with any of the allegations. Olivia realized, in retrospect, that their relationship was also sexual assault.
“Svu” showrunner Warren Leight mentioned that he and writer Julie Martin were working on a Benson/Burton episode earlier today on Twitter.

A familiar face will be returning to Law & Order: Svu. Demore Barnes, who portrayed Deputy Chief Christian Garland in the NBC procedural, will return to reprise the role in an upcoming episode, Deadline has confirmed.
Garland joined the series in the 21st season as a recurring and was promoted to series regular in Season 22. He exited the series in the second half of the Season 23 premiere, “Never Turn Your Back On Them”. Barnes’ Garland had left his job after disagreeing with higher-ups about the way police misconduct was being handled in a controversial case.
Barnes was recently spotted filming scenes in NYC for the drama series, leading to questions about his return, first reported by Give Me My Remote. He will appear in the April 28th episode.
At the time of his departure, Barnes said he was in the dark about why his character had been written out of the show.

We’ll be seeing more of Octavio Pisano on Law & Order: Svu. Pisano, who portrays Detective Joe Velasco, has been promoted to series regular on the NBC procedural.
Pisano’s Joe Velasco is a former undercover and detective under Chief McGrath (Terry Serpico) who’s been assigned to the Svu. Pisano has appeared in 3 episodes so far, beginning with the season 23 premiere.
Season 23 picked up mere hours after last season’s finale, where Catalina Machado (Zabryna Guevara) was arrested for trafficking single mothers living in shelters in a complex housing-for-sex scheme. She now wants to flip on her superiors in exchange for a deal with the feds, and names a powerful congressman as the big fish. It’s a make-or-break case for the NYPD and puts enormous pressure on the entire Svu squad to get a conviction.

For Mariska Hargitay, the departure of Christopher Meloni and his “Law & Order: Svu” character, Elliot Stabler in 2011 after 12 seasons, was “so painful for me and so hard because the way he left, there was no closure. There was just a big hole.”
But Meloni is back, in the spinoff series “Law & Order: Organized Crime,” and the two actors met up with Variety’s Cynthia Littleton in the Variety/NBCUniversal Virtual FYC House to discuss their reunion, both on camera and off.
“Now coming back again, incredibly earned,” Hargitay said. “Within the writing, there’s so much to play and yet it’s sort of effortless because it’s true. And we have been apart, so it’s been a joy. One of the, I think, biggest compliments that I received and I receive still is, ‘I like it best when there’s no words, when you guys are just looking at each other,...
