- CreatorLeonardo FasoliStefano BisesRoberto SavianoStarsSalvatore EspositoMarco D'AmoreIvana LotitoCiro disregards tradition in his attempt to become the next boss of his crime syndicate. The internal power struggle puts him and his entire family's life at risk. The movie was good but the first series of the television version wiped the floor with it and everything else this year. "Gomorrah" was truly epic; up there with "The Godfather Trilogy".
- CreatorAllan CubittStarsGillian AndersonJamie DornanJohn LynchA seemingly cold but very passionate policewoman goes head to head with a father, who is in fact a serial killer, in this procedural out of Belfast. The only thing they share is their common complexity.Series 2 of "The Fall" added a new dimension to the first series and together they represented the best crime drama in years. Anderson must be a shoo-in for the BAFTA.
- CreatorNoah HawleyStarsBilly Bob ThorntonMartin FreemanAllison TolmanVarious chronicles of deception, intrigue, and murder in and around frozen Minnesota. All of these tales mysteriously lead back one way or another to Fargo, North Dakota. The body count in the top three television series of the year could have filled a small city. Like "Gomorrah", "Fargo" was also based on a film. Though different, the plot and characters might have seemed familiar but the tv version turned it inside out and upside down.
- CreatorAaron SorkinStarsJeff DanielsEmily MortimerJohn Gallagher Jr.A newsroom undergoes some changes in its workings and morals as a new team is brought in, bringing unexpected results for its existing news anchor. After only three series "The Newsroom" reached its conclusion. It may not have been popular and the romantic subplots may have been a distraction but when it was good Aaron Sorkin's latest was as good as it gets.
- CreatorMark GatissSteven MoffatStarsBenedict CumberbatchMartin FreemanUna StubbsThe quirky spin on Conan Doyle's iconic sleuth pitches him as a "high-functioning sociopath" in modern-day London. Assisting him in his investigations: Afghanistan War vet John Watson, who's introduced to Holmes by a mutual acquaintance. We only got 3 episodes at the very start of the year and we have to wait until Christmas and 2016 for more of the same (as Cumberbatch and Freeman have gone on to bigger, if not always better, things on the big screen). Hugely imaginative and one of the best acted things on television this or any other year.
- StarsHugh BonnevilleMonica DolanJessica HynesIan Fletcher, formerly the Head of the Olympic Deliverance Commission, has taken up the position of Head of Values at the BBC.Perhaps only the BBC could send itself up like this. Great satire and proof that there is more to Hugh Bonneville's bow than "Downton Abbey".
- StarsAdriana OzoresAmaia SalamancaYon GonzálezA family-owned hotel in the fictional coastal Spanish town of Cantaloa in 1905: love, blackmail, jealousies, crime, comedy, and plots and counter-plots all involving the hotel's owners, guests, detectives, and residential employees. The second series of "Grand Hotel" was just as exciting as the first. It's been called a Spanish "Downton Abbey" but with more killings. It's also sexier and funnier and should keep the most dedicated thriller fan on the edge of their sofa.
- StarsSteven MackintoshEileen ChristieTerry SullivanSocial history at its very best.
- DirectorVirginia HeathMade entirely of Scottish film archive, 'From Scotland With Love' is a 75-minute film by award-winning Director Virginia Heath with a transcendent score by Scottish musician and composer King Creosote. A journey into our collective past, the film explores universal themes of love, loss, resistance, migration, work and play. Ordinary people, some long since dead, their names and identities largely forgotten, appear shimmering from the depth of the vaults to take a starring role. Brilliantly edited together, these silent individuals become composite characters, who emerge to tell us their stories, given voice by King Creosote's poetic music and lyrics. The year's best television documentary looked back at Scottish history over the last 100 years and did so without any narration. Instead we got a terrific song score by King Creosote that matched the images perfectly.
- StarsAlan DedicoatCraig Revel HorwoodTess DalyA dance competition where celebrities compete to be crowned the winner. Who is kicked out of the competition each week is decided by the judges' scores and viewer votes.Still going strong and still the best entertainment programme on television.
