- Choreographer Drew Jacoby (Nederlands Dans Theater, Royal Ballet of Flanders) directs her first short film for SFDanceworks. She commissioned Pulitzer winning librettist Royce Vavrek to create a story and text for the film based on the concept of the seven cardinal sins, through the lens of a woman in solitude, pulsating through her memories. Drawing inspiration from iconic artists Maya Deren and Peter Lindbergh, Jacoby's graphic movement style and aesthetic give the dance film an eerie, absurd, and sometimes surreal sensuality. With narration by Golden Globe winning and Oscar nominated actress Rosamund Pike and sound by brilliant composer Mikael Karlsson (Alicia Keys and Lykke Li collaborator), dancer Meredith Webster takes the viewer on an intimate and riveting journey through her troubled mind, shedding light on the perpetual inner carnal struggle.
- Paddington volunteers to help his ever-grumpy neighbor Mr. Curry prepare his house for Christmas, but in typical Paddington fashion, his good intentions lead to hysterical, festive chaos.
- +(dix) symbolizes the perpetual renewal of the cycle of life. Inspired by the legendary myth of Odysseus, whose long and perilous journey to find his homeland and his family took 10 years, the work addresses the challenges of returning home, guided by one's "inner compass," a magnetic force outside of us that charts the course. What if the journey was above all a quest to find self?
- Richard the Lionheart is dead. His brother John is King of England. Threatened from all sides by Europe, the English noblemen and even his own family, King John will stop at nothing to keep hold of his crown.
- A motley assortment of contestants participate in their annual finch-sitting competition, a Belgian folk competition that pits chaffinches (and their owners) against each other in a battle to see who has the most melodious bird. The contest is run as such: a man waves a flag and each of the competitors sits in front of a box containing one of their fellow contestants' birds. Every time a bird makes a proper call (a "susk-e-wiet", as it's called in these circles) they receive a tally mark. The bird with the most points wins, bringing much pride to its trainer. Although a seemingly simple and gentle competition, access to the competitor's inner monologues and flashbacks to their preparations reveal deception, deep-seated rivalries, painful loneliness, and blossoming romance.
- Staging of two pieces of vocal music, one by Tippett and one by Shostakovich.
- Don Pasquale is brought up to date in this new production. Filmed at Glyndebourne, with a cameo from opera star Donald Maxwell, this production is stripped to the essentials but retains all the drama of the opera buffa masterpiece.
- A staging of Britten's eloquent, searing response to what he saw at the concentration camp at Belsen at the end of the second world war.
- Megan Marino's Atlanta is a lifeboat in the middle of a terrible storm. The roar of applause in the midst of upheaval. When she and husband Michael Mayes moved to South Carolina in early 2020, they found solace and success in the company of other performers just three hours drive west. In her Love Letter to Atlanta, Company Player Megan Marino sings "Seguidilla" from a Carmen created during the pandemic storm of 2020. Her letter salutes the company she made home, the audience that embraced her and the anticipation we all feel about getting back to live, indoor performances. It was filmed in May 2021 at The Atlanta Opera Big Tent and Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre. Marino's performance is the fourth of a series of Love Letters to Atlanta, featuring the stellar Atlanta Opera Company Players. Megan Marino sings Cole Porter's "So in Love" in the second installment of her Love Letter to Atlanta. Each Love Letter includes visually stunning capture of a song with great meaning to the singer in a space that has great meaning to Atlanta. Interviews with the artist complete the experience.
