Unfortunately this review is in the making one and a half months after the event as I was camping at the time. These are more my thoughts, as I have this book and #7 to review too long after reading.
Myron is such a complex character, and in this instalment we learn so much more about him. Being my favourite fictional character, I am very happy about this. Jessica was always a little 'off' in my opinion, and I was not surprised to see Myron fall for another so openly, and devastated for him that this also, was not meant to be.
Myron does a complete flip to what one would expect of him and runs away, spending time with yet another unexpected party. Win is left holding the fort as the business and Esperenza also seem to be falling apart. Always Harlan Coben's characters are maddeningly likable and off the wall and this was a sense of amusement of course. Big Cyndi is cool, as are they all. I love how Win found Myron after his disappearance and asked no questions - well he never needs to really, they know each other so well. Myron deserves a happy ending, and I look forward to finding out how he goes.
.. but rolling was good. Myron liked to roll. "You think the police are going to give a rat's ass?" "Not even one cheek"

Nordic mythology and more importantly – the lovely, mellifluous Freya, who just happens to be a Goddess of all things good – and then some! Most excitingly, I also learned that it’s good to jump out of that silly comfort zone. I did just that to read a genre that I’ve not experienced before and this was a fun choice for me, as that’s just what I like – fun!
Mr Ullman has the knack of deadpan commentary (think of a “reasonably priced and ergonomic” bed at IKEA during a romantic moment with an alluring, perfect Goddess, or even what washing machine temperature to wash said Goddess’ robe), interspersed with absolute comedic moments. I was entertained by a narrator that was uber serious (think “Putting on sturdy boots, packing a small bag with water and fruit”), who was a total contradiction during the funny and silly that happened throughout. It was meant to be light hearted but our narrator mixed that up. I liked our unnamed narrator almost being the ‘voice of reason’, amongst a healthy splattering of sexy, and he too became alluring as he began to realise the enormity of the situation into which he was thrust upon. Yes, thrust!
The author uses short sentences, with extreme effect and surprising candour. Imagery was coloured and always vivid and pleasing, which was important to this story given its mythological and fantastical theme. I liked ‘pompous birds’, ‘liquid licorice’ and the lovely ‘thyme and apples’. His writing was straight to the point and matter of fact, but always with prose that I really liked and found endearing. The whole ride was a refreshing one for me; I did like this tale of, not only erotic love, but of real love by beautiful, strong, gentle and alluring women throughout the ages.
A lusty 5 stars here for something that could bring me out of my ‘normal’ and make me laugh, remind me of my womanly importance in this oft male dominated world, and for teaching me what a rune stone is - and the alternatives for its use! As for the last sentence in FBF, I am not backward in coming forward when I say I think this author must have a few more links in this chain, bring on the next chapter, please!...more

Written by skilled Aussie author Vicki Tyley, who has woven a sharp murder mystery, where yet again we are left guessing. I'm never right, but that's good as it would be boring otherwise, right?! I am in the process of buying the paper books I've yet to read by this author. The sign for this reader that they're good. Recommended reading for mystery and thriller lovers. Thanks for the gift of another of your books Vicki! Fast paced and quick to move along, set in Melbourne where Jemma is on the case as she tries to work out the circumstances beyond her sisters supposed suicide. I enjoy Australian settings where descriptions of cities and locations are relatable, and this was one of them. I couldn't work out the twist, I had my suspicions but I wasn't right. This was a quick and enjoyable read, which I thought was quite light, which suits me as I often can only read a few pages at a time. I recommend this author if you haven't stumbled across her yet! ...more

I wholeheartedly have to add a disclaimer that ebooks don't work for me but I did enjoy this story. I changed my initial rating from three to four stars. Great title Vicki! So many twists and turns. As this isn't my usual genre I'm the first to admit I never guess the twist, but that's okay, the ride is fun as I go along - which I think is the best bit. Thinking ahead and attempting to keep up with the author. This is a debut novel, so Vicki has done a great job for book number one. An Aussie setting is always a plus, and I have to say the everyday nuances and observations that were captured made it really enjoyable. Jacinta is a journo that has lost her job, but hasn't lost excitement as she stumbles across a messy situation of lies, murder and deceit. A funny (from my perspective) unimportant issue was the mention of many 'steaming' hot drinks! But when you think about it, hot drinks do serve a purpose, and many important discussions and moments are shared over a hot one or few. If you read this you'll be hooked. ...more
