[close] Ainsley is the name of the boy who saved Eva, but he has a close friend to rescue. Together they trek the hostile landscape to find out what happened to his friend. But first, they must survive each other.

[close] Eva and Ainsley travel to a derelict settlement to find the whereabouts of his good friend, Missy. Much to Eva's dismay, this only gets them into more trouble.

[close] Michael, one of the religious zealots in a group called the Guardians, visits the site of destruction in the Garden where Ainsley had saved Eva. He senses the boy and seeks him out. They have unfinished business.

[close] Ainsley and Missy take Eva back to their mountain home where she meets Mariska, a mentor of sorts to Eva's two young companions. The place is unlike the rest of the world where nothing grows. It has fresh water, green forests, and wildlife. However, they cannot stay. An opportunity for change came, and the group must act.

[close] Ainsley and Eva take a balloon ride to Templar City. On the way, they catch glimpses of one another's hope and wishes. Does love ensue?

[close] As Eva arrives in Templar City, one of the Guardian's "reclaimed" cities, she notices that not is all perfect under their rule. People still lack basic necessities, and laws are strict and unforgiving. When she goes out at night to see more of the place, trouble comes in the form of an old enemy.

[close] Ainsley and friends prepare for their attack by rehearsing and setting their plan in motion. Eva recounts a particular episode in her childhood shortly after the fall of Ashes and reminded herself that no matter what happens, she has to survive. She endured too much to lose her life now.

[close] The group infiltrate the Grand Court. Eva sets fire to a fuel depot to create a distraction while the rest of the team steel themselves for battle.

[close] The attack was successful and many of the Faithfuls died, but this came at a great cost. Eva took a blow that knocked her unconscious. Ainsley attempts to flee from the Guardians with Eva.

[close] Mariska teaches Ainsley how to keep Eva alive, but time is running out unless he finds a cure. One might exist, but it lies deep in Marauder territory to the northwest. Without a second thought, Ainsley heads out.

[close] Missy attempts to lure the Guardians away from Ainsley and Eva. She runs into a street urchin, Steve, who enlists her in a mission to rescue his friend, Lucy.

[close] Eva sees a boy with his parents and witnesses them turn into ashen statues. Then she is transported from one dreamscape to the next, seemingly without logic. What is she witnessing? Who do these dreams belong to?

[close] Ainsley passes through a village, Terrenton, led by a young woman named Priscilla who is facing a dilemma of her own - is the safety of its citizens worth the human sacrifices to monsters that keep outsiders away?

[close] Missy and her new friend, Steve, broke in prison to save Steve's friend, Lucy. Now they are on the Guardian's wanted list as well and must find a place to hide.

[close] Terrenton participates in annual sacrifices to the mysterious Minakins in order to keep the town safe. Priscilla questions this tradition and decides to see what lies outside, journeying with Ainsley northward.

[close] Eva continues to read through Ainsley collection of dreams - those that humanity had lost. She finally realizes the great burden he carries and what she must do to help.

[close] Missy and her newly rescued children flee into a dense forest. There they meet a lost tribe of glowing men and women that believe the world is in flux, trying to heal itself, with the children being the key.

[close] The Minakins block the path northward, leaving Ainsley no choice but to fight them. During this encounter, Priscilla realizes a hard truth and the lie Terrenton has told itself all these years.

[close] Eva discovers what she has lost in her strange dreamscape. Meanwhile, Ainsley helps her find resolution to her past so that she may return to the present.

[close] Mariska visits a library in one of the Guardian's major cities hoping to find the reason for their interest in Ainsley. She interrogates a librarian and uncovers a shocking secret about the boy's powers.

[close] As Ainsley, Priscilla, and Isaac encroach on Marauder territory, they see the same terror inflicted on the populace here as everywhere else by these hooligans. Ainsley proceeds unperturbed toward his goal of saving Eva.

[close] Missy leaves the children with Ogami and the tribesmen and heads out to look for Ainsley. She has a feeling that he would need her help in the coming days.

[close] Michael awakes from his injuries and gets a reminder that he too is expendable if he does not complete his task of tracking down and bringing Ainsley to the Great Purity.

[close] Mariska has learnt the reason the Guardians want Ainsley. She wants to let him know in order to save him and the world. However, they close in on her, forcing Mariska into a desperate fight for her life.

[close] Ainsley makes it to Marauder territory and learns the whereabouts of the one item that can save Eva. Will he be able to find it and escape unscathed?

[close] Ainsley finds the Dragon's Breath but has to fight his way through a group of monsters to obtain it. Complicating matters is the Guardians unrelenting pursuit, and they are getting closer with each passing day.

[close] Mariska wanders into the enchanted forest and meets Ogami, relaying something important to him. Will he be able to find Ainsley before it's too late?

[close] Ainsley draws the Guardians away from Eva and has a final confrontation with Michael.

[close] Lance wakes in the aftermath of battle and makes a surprising discovery that might make his dream of becoming a Faithful come true. Eva opens her eyes to a very different reality. What comes next is an even more perilous journey than the one she and Ainsley had just embarked. Would she be ready?
