Because of his passing resemblance to Peter Lorre he began calling himself Peter Lorie Jr. and in 1963 he applied to have his name legally changed to Peter Lorie Jr. but the famous actor objected, as did American International Pictures, which had Lorre under contract. After a hearing the judge denied Weingand's petition, deciding he was merely trying to cash in on a famous name. Weingand was barred from using the name Peter Lorie Jr. without Peter Lorre's permission. Unfortunately, Lorre died a few months later and Weingand began calling himself Peter Lorre Jr. and even began claiming to be the son of the famous actor. Under this name he made a handful of film and TV appearances in the 1960s and 70s, and subsequently dropped out of sight.

Maren Ade was born in Karlsruhe on 12 December 1976 to a couple of teachers. She studied cinema at Munich's Hochschule für Fernsehen und Film. As of 2001 she co-founded, together with Janine Jackowski, a fellow graduate from HFF, the "Komplizen" film company. It is through Komplizen that Maren would later co-produce, among others, "Arabian Nights", Miguel Gomes' masterpiece. After two shorts in 2000 and 2001 made under the auspices of her film school, she co-produced, wrote and and directed Der Wald vor lauter Bäumen (2003), her first feature. A grueling drama about the difficult beginnings of a new teacher, the movie impressed both audiences and critics. Incidentally, it is of interest to specify that its school scenes were entirely shot within the walls of the educational institution where her mother was teaching at the time. This promising effort was followed six years later by Alle Anderen (2009), which although taking place in a totally different setting (the Sardinian seaside in the glory of Summer) also concerns characters unsure of themselves. A taut drama as well, it revolves around two holiday making newly married couples and describes in a Roman Polanski-like manner the wicked relationships they share. But her greatest success came in 2015 and 2016 with Toni Erdmann (2016), an offbeat comedy with a philosophical approach, which enthused the festival-goers at Cannes, allegedly making them "roar with laughter", and later making unexpected profit in art houses throughout the world. And it is true that a father playing dirty tricks on his daughter (meant to make her realize she is wasting her life) is no ordinary entertainment. As a matter of fact, after only three full-length movies to her credit, Maren Ade has become a name that counts in today's German cinema.- This consummate actress enjoys an illustrious career of over three decades. You've seen her in many favorite prime time television shows during the course of those years. From the beginning of her career she has always been quite at ease onstage or on set and continues to move between the two with grace. Her profession began on stage in musical theatre, which has contributed to every aspect of her performance skills. A woman of many talents, producing and directing along with writing original music compositions for underscoring of book trailers can be added to her extensive list of accomplishments.

- Hans Frank was born in Karlsruhe, Germany, on May 23, 1900. At age 17 he joined the German army and fought in World War I. After the war he got involved in the "freikorps" movement, extreme right-wing paramilitary units that engaged in intimidation, extortion, street brawls and political murders (many of these groups were later absorbed into the SS when the Nazis came to power).
Frank joined the Nazi party and took part in the abortive "Beer Hall Putsch" of 1923, when Adolf Hitler and a small band of Nazi followers attempted, unsuccessfully, to overthrow the Bavarian government. Frank later became a lawyer and a legal advisor to both Hitler and the Nazi party. In 1930 he was elected to the German parliament (Reichstag). Upon Hitler's ascension to German Chancellor in 1933, Frank was appointed as Justice Minister in Bavaria. In 1934, when Hitler moved against Ernst Röhm and the "brownshirts" of the SA, whom he feared were planning to seize power from him, Frank apparently objected to the summary executions of many of the SA's leaders, but his objections were ignored and the executions were carried out. As a result, Frank lost much of what influence he had in the party organization.
When World War II broke out Frank was appointed Governor General of Poland, and under his administration the infamous death camps were utilized as part of the Nazis' "Final Solution" program of exterminating European Jews, which resulted in the death of millions of Jews, Gypsies and other "undesirables". Also under his administration, the SS and Gestapo were known to have committed horrific atrocities against Polish civilians whom they suspected of being involved with the Polish resistance, including mass rapes, liquidation of entire villages, massacres of women and children and wholesale deportations to concentration camps (at his trial after the war Frank denied any and all knowledge of those incidents and placed the blame on Heinrich Himmler, head of the SS).
Frank was captured by Allied forces in May of 1945 and placed on trial with other high Nazi officials at the Nuremberg War Crimes Tribunal, charged with, among other things, crimes against humanity. He was found guilty and sentenced to death. Before the sentence was carried out he converted to Roman Catholicism, and finally admitted his involvement in the carrying out of the Holocaust, among other things, and asked to be forgiven. He was hanged on October 1, 1946. - Producer
