James is a multi award winning Film Composer, Sound Designer and mixing engineer for the film, television and game industry. He hails from a diverse musical background, with over 14 years as a professional musician, performing as Principal Saxophone and Guitarist for The Band of HM Coldstream Guards. His career took James all over the world, performing on the finest of world stages, from The Royal Albert Hall, to many fabulous concert venues in Japan.
Two Classical Number One hit records with Decca, Tours of America, Japan, Australia, Mainland Europe and Bosnia, Performing in front of hundreds of thousands of people daily. The Royal Wedding, to billions in the Closing Ceremony of The Olympic Games London 2012, and solo private concerts to Her Majesty The Queen.
Recording in legendary studios like Abbey Road, Air Studios and Angel Studios. Performing guitar with artists such as Jools Holland, Rod stewart and Catherine Jenkins. Performing with Orchestras such as The London Symphony and The London Philharmonic, he is well equipped in a hugely diverse back catalogue of music performances and study of composition, also with a Masters Degree in Music Performance and Psychology, studying deeply how music emotionally affects us all. James amalgamates all of these aspects of psychology, composition and professional performance into his film scores, very quickly establishing his voice and stamp, creating unique, powerful and exciting film music. In 2014 James completed his award winning and multi nominated debut score for the exciting UK independent Feature Film release 'The Drift' A boundary busting Sci-Fi Horror from Director Darren Scales of Backyard Productions.
James continues to get his music and name recognized globally, with his latest score for British WWII Feature Film and theatrical release with Kaleidoscope Home Entertainment 'Lancaster Skies' Directed by Callum Burn of Tin Hat Productions. The soundtrack for Lancaster Skies also reached Number 16 in the Official iTunes Charts on its immediate release. James' SXSW winner 68 Kill by Trent Haaga, and Snowfort Pictures, and his award winning score for folk horror feature by Director Richard Rowntree, Ash Mountain Films, entitled Dogged, also awarded him Best Original Feature Horror Score of 2018 from established soundtrack critics Movie Music International
Between 2015 and 2017 James was appointed Lecturer of Film Scoring and Modern Composition Techniques at The Centre for Advanced Training at The Sage Concert Venue, Gateshead. Home of The Royal Northern Symphonia.
In 2015 James was awarded Best Surprise 2015 for The Drift score from Soundtrack Geek Awards 2015, after being nominated in two categories, the second being Best Sci-Fi. In 2016 James was also nominated and was a finalist for The Drift Score for Music and Sound Awards 2016, Nominated in the category of The Siren Award for Best Original Composition - Feature Film. Leading on from this The Drift, the score has received further global enjoyment in concert form. Recently arranged as a World Premiere for the NSO Symphony Orchestra, Abu Dhabi. This incredible performance was premiered on 9th October 2015 at The Emirates Palace Hotel Auditorium, Abu Dhabi, on an evening of Film Music greats, Night at The Movies 3. In 2016 James was invited back to provide a second world premiere. This time it is music taken from Darkwave Edge of The Storm. The second franchise installment from the creators of The Drift. This presentation of a newly exclusive orchestration is entitled 'A Starlight Horizon'. To be be performed 30th September, Emirates Palace Auditorium, Abu Dhabi.
Between 2015-2017 James was appointed as Assistant to Saturn award winning Film Composer Frank Ilfman, Big Bad Wolves / The Etruscan Smile.
James is also pleased to have provided exclusive music for MTV's hit series 'Teen Mom 2' and '16 and Pregnant', and the legendary rocker Henry Rollins series with Vans 'Pass the Bucket' with Pusher Music. James also Composes for London Sync.
James also composes Trailer Music for the Epic Trailer Music Publishes Really Slow Motion Music, Colossal Music Sub Pub Music, EON, and most recently has orchestrated a large array of scores for music publisher UjoySound in Taiwan. James was invited to conduct his orchestrations in the new and exciting Synchron Stage, Vienna.
When James grabs time between scoring features, he is also involved in Sound Design, of which he noticeably provided for Warner Bros blockbuster horror Annabelle: Creation trailer campaign. He is an experienced mixing engineer, mixing artists music and also dub mixing feature length films from his studio facility.
James now lives in the peaceful Yorkshire Dales National Park with his family, where he works from his personal studio and is in the process of designing and building a converted barn for residential studio purposes. He frequently is in London and travels to Los Angeles regularly.
