You can officially stop calling it “Space Jam 2.” In an Instagram post Thursday, LeBron James revealed the title for the sequel to the Looney Tunes-Meets-Basketball film along with the film’s logo.
The sequel is now titled “Space Jam: A New Legacy,” and the film’s release date is still set for 2021.
The 1996 original film starred Michael Jordan playing basketball alongside Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig and the rest of the Looney Tunes gang. “Space Jam: A New Legacy” updates the premise with LeBron James leading the cast, and major current NBA stars are expected to make cameos. It also stars Don Cheadle.

The Heroes in a Half-Shell will be heading back to the big screen for yet another reboot, as Paramount has hired a writer to give the franchise another shot.
I love the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and as easy as it is to be cynical about this news...I can't help but feel excited. Paramount already tried to revive the Tmnt brand on the big screen with a pair of films in 2014 and 2016. While I enjoyed them for the goofy fun they were, the films weren't exactly big hits and I personally hated the fact that martial arts was largely ignored in the movies.
Paramount has a new chairman since those films released, Jim Gianopulos, and he's made it clear that his goal is to get the studios' franchises back on track (this included shelving the multiple Transformers projects and seeing what Bumblebee could do). Now, the attention is turning to Tmnt once again.

Paramount has launched development of a third “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” movie — two years after “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows” was a serious disappointment.
The studio has hired Andrew Dodge, whose credits include “Bad Words,” to write the script. Producers are Michael Bay, Andrew Form, and Brad Fuller through their Platinum Dunes production company.
The studio is aiming to reboot the franchise through the third “Ninja Turtles” project.
Paramount’s two movies are based on the comic by Kevin Eastman and Kevin Laird about wisecracking pizza-loving turtle superheroes named after the Renaissance artists Michelangelo, Raphael, Leonardo and Donatello, using ninja skills acquired from a radioactive New York City rat. The first movie, simply called “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” was released in 2014 and grossed $493 million worldwide while “Out of the Shadows” took in about half that.

When Space Jam descended on the moviegoing masses two decades ago, Joe Pytka’s wonderfully wacky sports flick struck a chord with adults and children alike, seeding a powerful sense of nostalgia that would continue to permeate long after Michael Jordan was shooting hoops with Bugs Bunny and Co. back in ’96.
It’s understandable, then, that news of Warner Bros. pushing ahead with Space Jam 2 irked longtime fans of the space-sports romp including, it seems, Joe Pytka himself.
Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, the director was damning of Warner’s planned sequel, which last week recruited Star Trek Beyond‘s Justin Lin to helm. In fact, Pytka even went so far as to claim that Space Jam 2 was essentially “doomed” given the original was very much considered a product of its time.
“Don’t do it. It’s doomed. Michael Jordan was the biggest star on the planet.

LeBron James is set to star in Space Jam 2, with Justin Lin directing...
Well, it was rumoured last year, but now it's definitely happening: there's a sequel to Space Jam on the way.
Space Jam 2 will star basketball star LeBron James (who was seen in last year's Trainwreck, for those not of a basketball persuasion). Warner Bros is backing the movie, and now we learn that Justin Lin is in early talks to direct the sequel.
Lin is currently putting the finishing touches to this summer's Star Trek Beyond. If he presses ahead with the Space Jam sequel, he'll be working on a script from Andrew Dodge (Bad Words), and picking things up from an original film that was released 20 years ago.
Lin hasn't signed on the dotted line just yet, but it does look as if Space Jam 2 is finally edging closer. We'll keep you posted as we hear more.

You see what you’ve done with your ironic hipster love of terrible movies? I was 26 when Space Jam was released to theaters in 1996. I’m a big fan of the classic Warner Bros. animation. I’ve purchased Looney Tunes collections on laserdisc, DVD, and now Blu-ray, and I love revisiting the work of Tex Avery, Bob Clampett, Maurice Noble, Friz Freleng, Chuck Jones, Frank Tashlin, and Robert McKimson, among others. If you to ask me what televised sport is my favorite, I’ve always preferred basketball to anything else because of the pace and because of the simplicity of the game itself. It’s very pure, and even the worst NBA game is entertaining. And when it comes to Bill Murray… well, he’s on that very short list of my favorite things. Not just favorite people, and not just favorite movie stars, but overall favorite things. That’s...

The long rumored but never confirmed Space Jam sequel with LeBron James, is finally real and on its way. Warner Bros. Pictures has signed Fast And Furious series and Star Trek Beyond director Justin Lin to direct Space Jam 2 with LeBron James.
Lin is also co-writing the script along with Andrew Dodge.
The first Space Jam film earned $230.4 million worldwide and starred Michael Jordan and a collection of Looney Tunes cartoon characters who teamed up to play a game of ball against aliens threatening their freedom.
Rumors of a follow-up have been brewing for two years, and picked up again when LeBron James and his company SpringHill Entertainment signed a deal with Warner Bros. in July. LeBron James recently appeared in the Amy Schumer comedy Trainwreck, which I thought he did pretty good.

Two decades after NBA superstar Michael Jordan shot some hoops with Bugs Bunny and Co., The Hollywood Reporter brings word today that a Space Jam 2 is moving forward with Star Trek Beyond filmmaker Justin Lin at the helm.
Penning the script alongside screenwriter Andrew Dodge, it’s understood the long-rumored basketball sequel will welcome LeBron James to the fray, who first became linked with said follow-up back in 2012, before fuelling speculation three years later when the Cleveland Cavaliers star inked a movie and TV deal with Warner Bros. Pictures. Now, on the heels of a role in last year’s rom-com Trainwreck, LeBron James has officially been confirmed to headline Space Jam 2.

Justin Lin (Fast And Furious 6) has come aboard to help develop a script for Space Jam 2, a project that Deadline first reported back in 2014. The project, which was brought to the studio by Dick Ebersol’s sons, is being put together as a starring vehicle for LeBron James. Sources said it’s a high-profile development deal and it’s not clear whether or when the project will be ready to shoot the hoops. Andrew Dodge and Alfredo Botello are scripting. The long-awaited sequel to '90s flick "Space Jam" is one step closer to becoming a reality: Justin Lin is reportedly in talks to direct the follow-up.
The Hollywood Reporter has the scoop, writing that the director -- who'll next hit the big screen with "Star Trek Beyond" -- is currently in negotiations to helm "Space Jam 2," which will star NBA superstar LeBron James. And Lin reportedly comes as a package deal with writer Andrew Dodge, with whom the director is currently working on an untitled comedy screenplay and an upcoming HBO project.
Securing both a writer and director is good news for the flick, which has been churning through the rumor mill for a number of years (the first film hit theaters way back in 1996). James fanned the flames last summer when his production company signed a development deal with "Space Jam" studio Warner Bros. -- whose classic cartoon characters,...

Let's get something out of the way right up front. I was the perfect age to absolutely love Space Jam when it first came out. I saw it in theaters, got the soundtrack, and was entranced by the combination of live-action and animation. But if you've taken the time to rewatch the movie any time after the late '90s, you'll come to the same realization as everyone else: Space Jam is a godawful movie. You can only let nostalgia blind you for so long before you have to face some harsh truths in life, and this is one of them.
So the idea of Space Jam 2, which has been floating around as a starring vehicle concept for superstar LeBron James for years at this point, doesn't exactly fill me with warm and fuzzy feelings. When it does inevitably happen, it may not be aimed at my demographic any more,...

Justin Lin is in early talks to direct Space Jam 2 starring LeBron James, an individual familiar with the Warner Bros. project has told TheWrap. Andrew Dodge (“Bad Words”) will write the script with input from Lin, though the project remains in early development and isn’t ready for tip-off just yet. James recently signed a production deal with Warner Bros. and the project is being developed with the Cleveland Cavaliers forward in mind, though he’ll need to approve the script before officially signing on to star. Four-year-old James Hashimoto is a big hit on YouTube, and his star will soon extend to the big screen. Hashimoto, better known as the Action Movie Kid, is the inspiration for a film that will be produced by Temple Hill and distributed by Fox 2000, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
In the Action Movie Kid videos, which have accrued more than 155 million views on YouTube, Hashimoto’s around-the-house activities are elevated to epic levels thanks to the special-effects skills of his father Daniel, a DreamWorks animator. Daniel’s technical wizardry turns his son into a science-fiction troublemaker who still manages to be extremely cute at the same time.
The Action Movie Kid film will adapt James’ digital persona for a theatrical setting. It will be written by Andrew Dodge, who in 2013 penned the Jason Bateman film Bad Words.

You've seen those Action Movie Kid videos, right? DreamWorks animator Daniel Hashimoto utilized his skills with visual effects to turn some home movies featuring his young son, James, into cool VFX-filled clips involving rockets, explosions, lasers, and more. We've written about them a bunch of times on the site (here, here, here, and here).
Hashimoto co-wrote an Action Movie Kid book last year, and now THR reports that writer Andrew Dodge has been hired by Fox 2000 to write a screenplay based on the popular YouTube videos in an attempt to turn the concept into a full-length feature film. After years of solid work as a background player, Peter Dinklage finally broke into the mainstream with his terrific performance as conniving, charismatic Tyrion Lannister on HBO’s Game of Thrones, and as the fifth season of that series approaches, it appears that Hollywood is finally seeing the actor as leading man material.
Paramount Pictures has recruited prolific helmer Adam Shankman to direct Dinklage in O’Lucky Day, an R-rated comedy in the vein of Bad Santa about a con man who poses as a real, live leprechaun. The project, which has been in the works for sometime, is described as being “deep in R-rated territory but wrapped around an emotional heart.”
Andrew Dodge (Bad Words) penned the script, which is undergoing rewrites by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift (Friday the 13th).
O’Lucky Day certainly sounds like it could yield a fair share of laughs, though Shankman’s involvement isn’t exactly thrilling news.

Back in the fall of 2013, we learned that "Game of Thrones" star Peter Dinklage was going to star in an R-rated comedy where he played a man who tells people that he's a leprechaun. Now Deadline has word that the film is called O'Lucky Day, and Hairspray and Rock of Ages director Adam Shankman is in talks to get behind the camera. Some more details on the story have also surfaced as it's described as following a con man who may or may not be a real leprechaun, but at the very least, convinces people that he is one. However, with Shankman on board as director, I'm not entirely sure this will be R-rated comedy anymore. The original script came from Andrew Dodge, who wrote Bad Words for Jason Bateman's directorial debut, but it's been rewritten by Damian Shannon & Mark Swift (Freddy vs. Jason). That means there's still a...

Exclusive: Director Adam Shankman is in talks to direct O’Lucky Day, a Paramount Pictures comedy that will star Game Of Thrones‘ Emmy winner Peter Dinklage as a con man who may or may not be a real Leprechaun, but who certainly passes himself off as one. The film’s being produced by Mary Parent and Cale Boyter through their Disruption Entertainment banner, along with Dinklage.
Andrew Dodge (Bad Words) wrote the script, with Damian Shannon & Mark Swift doing the rewrite and Dodge returning to help. The plan is to start production in April, after Dinklage wraps the next season of Game Of Thrones and his pivotal character Tyrion Lannister.
Shankman is repped by UTA and attorney Alan Hergott; Dinklage is repped by CAA, Insight and Jackoway Tyerman.
Shannon & Swift’s credits include the Friday the 13th franchise and Freddy Vs Jason. They’re repped by UTA and Magnet Management.

It was only three months ago that Hollywood gave us a comedic spin on over-the-hill heroes striving to recapture the glory days of their youth. Boxing movie icons Sylvester Stallone and Robert De Niro pulled out the gloves and trunks from the back of the closet and jumped back in the ring for a Grudge Match. Too bad the referees (or studio execs) didn’t throw in the towel and put a stop to the dismal bout. Well here’s another fella’ going for a second chance at a prize usually taken by those several decades younger. But this guy is not a boxer or a ball player like Roy Hobbs, The Natural. It’s not an athletic event at all. And our hero is still many years from his Aarp card. Forty-something Guy Trilby is determined to finally get the big prize at the Golden Quill National Spelling Bee...

There is a current trend in R-rated comedies where it is all right to be raunchy as long as there is an undercurrent of sweetness to combat the sour put-downs and filthy jokes. Therefore, the challenge of the genre lies in how the writer and director balance these two poles. If they hold back too much on the crude language and vulgar jokes, it is a waste of an R-rating. If they hold back on the humanity behind the characters, it is a waste of storytelling. If they hold back on both, as screenwriter Andrew Dodge and director Jason Bateman do with Bad Words, it is just a waste.
Bateman does double duty here as director and lead actor as he plays Guy Trilby, a man suffering from a kind of arrested development. The 40-year-old bachelor finds a loophole in a national spelling bee, the Golden Quill, and uses it to his advantage.

One of the mainstays of the holiday season is Chuck Jones’ masterful animated short adaptation of Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas, which manages to both be a clever embrace of everything that Christmas embodies in its secular form and to be a nasty piece of work about a grumpy so-and-so who eventually turns good. The feature-length take on the same story, by director Ron Howard, is one of the worst blights of recent holiday-film entries, precisely because if you spend 2 hours with the Grinch, he either becomes totally intolerable or must be given a sufficient enough backstory to explain why he’s such…well, a Grinch. And the only reason why the Grinch is so memorable is that he’s inexplicably mean, but in short bouts; the longer we spend with him, the less appealing he becomes.

Right now you can catch the R-rated comedy Bad Words in limited release, and the comedy from first-time director Jason Bateman (who also stars in the film) will hit more theaters this weekend. To keep the hype machine rolling, the "Arrested Development" and Horrible Bosses star just unveiled a cool new illustrated poster that was created with the help of users on Reddit. Bateman asked people to list their top filthy words, and he picked 20 to include on the limited edition piece. So the poster is pretty raunchy, at least in language, so be wary if you don't like certain vulgar words, and some not-so-vulgar as well. Look! Here's the Reddit exclusive poster for Jason Bateman's Bad Words from the director himself: Bad Words is directed by Jason Bateman with a script from freshman writer Andrew Dodge. Jason Bateman has become so good at playing milquetoasts that there’s something immediately bracing about watching him play an actual jerk in Bad Words. As Guy Trilby, a 40-year-old taking advantage of a loophole in the rules for the Golden Quill National Spelling Bee, the actor turns his characteristic deadpan into a weapon: He maintains his even-keeled delivery, and hurls agonizingly cruel insults at the world — about people’s vaginas, their ethnicities, their weight. The film itself is uneven, but it’s kind of awesome seeing Bateman act so vile.Directed by Bateman himself from a screenplay by Andrew Dodge, and billed as a zany comedy — Bad Santa for high-achievers — Bad Words is a lot darker and more twisted than you might expect. Why is Trilby even here? What would possess a grown man to lay orthographic waste to a bunch of nervous middle schoolers? Though he doesn’t...

Jason Bateman is about as good a spokesman as any movie can have, and when he's finally making the jump to be a director as well as an actor, he's got plenty of reason to turn on the charm. When I was at the Four Seasons recently, I was in the first group of people talking to him in the morning, and I was sitting outside the room where we were going to speak along with four other people. When he came walking up, he stopped and looked down at all of us, smiling. "Hey, how about we just do this out here, press conference style? Right now. Let's go." Bateman and I are pretty much the same age, and I feel like I've been watching him on TV my whole life. I have strong memories of him on "Little House In The Prairie" and, in particular, "Silver Spoons," where...

Bad Words is a really dark comedy. Its lead, Guy (Jason Bateman), is crude and selfish, and he won’t stop until he proves his point. Sometimes he goes about his plan in mean-spirited ways, but for Bateman it’s pivotal that an audience embraces the character. That’s not as difficult as it sounds. He makes the National Spelling Bee contest actual fun, so you’re already on his side from the start. Not only is Guy likable despite his edges, but he’s also empathetic. Andrew Dodge‘s script gives him the right kind of motive that never interrupts the film’s initial comedic tone. There’s just enough of Guy’s past and his twisted and sweet friendship with a kid, never too much of it to make him an unbelievable softie. There’s plenty of tonal tightropes in this movie, but Bateman, who was also in the director’s seat for the movie...
