The Dinard film festival (2-6 October), traditionally a celebration of all things British, brought its 35th iteration to the seaside city’s screens with a soft relaunch this year, after retitling itself to include Irish films and co-productions. The result was suitably eclectic, with just six films competing for the Hitchcock d’Or, which was voted on by an eight-strong jury of actors and directors. Including The Quiet Girl director Colm Bairéad and House of the Dragon star Phoebe Campbell, the judging panel was headed up by French actress-director-model-singer Arielle Dombasle, a favorite of Claude Lelouch, Éric Rohmer and Alain Robbe-Grillet but more recently seen this summer singing her song “Olympics” to herald the arrival of the Olympic torch in Paris, ahead of the recent games.

Following up Wendell & Wild, animation wizard Henry Selick is planning to return to the world of Neil Gaiman with an adaptation of The Ocean at the End of the Lane. “Instead of a child going to this other world with a monstrous mother, it’s a monstrous mother who comes into our world to wreak havoc on a kid’s life,” Selick told Variety, contrasting the film with his previous Gaiman adaptation Coraline. Gaiman’s 2013 novel follows “an unnamed man who returns to his hometown for a funeral and remembers events that began forty years earlier.” Selick is currently shopping the project around, so hopefully we’ll have distribution news soon.

Exclusive: British filmmaker Paul Raschid has added veteran Italian filmmaker Dario Argento and actor Franco Nero to his latest interactive project The Run.
Raschid directs from a screenplay he also wrote. The film is described as a “horror-thriller”. The interactive element will involve the viewer being asked to make high-stakes decisions for the protagonist at various points throughout the story that will affect the direction of the narrative and in some cases, result in early death.
The project is currently shooting in Northern Italy. The story is set on a remote running trail, where a famous fitness influencer’s morning run becomes a race for survival when she is hunted by seemingly motiveless killers. She meets local farmer Matteo along the way and the viewer’s choices determine whether they live or die.
Also starring are Roxanne McKee and George Blagden. Rounding out the cast are Fabio Testi Jamie Ward Jemma Donovan, and Katia Ricciarelli.
Argento is best known as the master of Giallo horror, with credits including Suspiria, Deep Red, and Phenomena. Nero is an Italian screen legend. His breakout role came in the 1966 Spaghetti Western film Django.
The Run is a Benacus Entertainment production in association with Rnf Productions. Raschid’s previous interactive features include The Gallery, a hostage-thriller also starring Blagden, and the interactive rom-com Five Dates.
Benacus Entertainment and Rnf Productions are production and production service companies based in Atlanta, Georgia. Their credits include Double Down South, St Agatha, Walden, and Degenerate.

British filmmaker Paul Raschid is developing a new interactive film. Deadline reports Raschid's latest project, The Run, is an "interactive horror-thriller" that puts the fate of its protagonists into the viewer's hands. Ouch, poor them. If you watched Black Mirror's Bandersnatch or enjoy visual novels, you'll have an idea of what to expect.
Raschid is no stranger to this hybrid genre, having previously worked on interactive titles like the hostage-thriller The Gallery, the romantic comedy Five Dates, and its sequel, Ten Dates. Both rom-coms function like visual novels and are available on platforms like Steam, Apple's App Store, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.
So, so, so proud I can finally announce this...

Interactive cinema has existed since the 1967 Czech film Kinoautomat, but remains niche, despite a brief flare-up of interest around Charlie Brooker’s choose-your-own-adventure Black Mirror episode Bandersnatch. British director Paul Raschid – ambitiously for a 30-year-old – specialises in tending these mind-boggling gardens of forking paths. His latest The Gallery is a trenchant and thoughtful post-Brexit treatise that can be played on PCs and consoles, but it’s also doing the rounds in cinemas, where the group experience – including voting by glowstick – could work something like a referendum on modern Britain, given the film’s state-of-the-nation bent.
The Gallery has two separate but symmetrical timelines in 1981 and 2021. Plus ça change: both spotlight a reeling and fractured Britain in which the Argyle Manor gallery, about to put on a portrait exhibition,...

London’s Focus, a meeting place for the international production community, is ready to return in December for an “ambitious” eighth edition.
“It’s all about volume and ambience. This will probably define Focus this year,” says managing director Jean-Frédéric Garcia. “People expect this show floor to be buzzy.”
The two-day live event, which will unspool at the Business Design Centre from Dec. 6-7, will offer a “packed” program, he says. Focus Virtual is set to follow on Dec. 8 and 9.
“Our virtual edition back in 2020 was a learning curve, but it proved great for extending our reach. We don’t want to lose that,” says Kate Hughes, director of marketing and communications, mentioning this year’s registrations hitting “record levels.”

"The safety of London is paramount - we can't risk a bug getting into the city." Giant Pictures has released an official trailer for The Complex: Lockdown, a feature film based on the interactive sci-fi thriller full-motion video game The Complex - first released earlier this year. Essentially a feature film tie-in for the video game. After a major bio-weapon attack on London, two scientists debate whether to save a suspected terrorist’s life. However, assassins have infiltrated the building and soon our scientists find themselves with time, and options, running out. The cast includes Michelle Mylett, Kate Dickie, Okorie Chukwu, Kim Adis, Rachel Petladwala, and Al Weaver. In terms of video game movies, this looks awful. In terms of movies in general, this looks like a complete mess. Doesn't even make any sense. Skip this - it's not worth it. White Chamber is a surprisingly clever sci-fi film from writer director Paul Raschid, who despite confining most of the action around a sealed boxed room, manages to build a tense atmosphere filled with several twists and drama.
During the initial events in the film it looks as though the action is going to be confined in the one room, creating a similar claustrophobic feel to films such as Cube (1997). We are introduced to a woman who wakes up inside a room called the white chamber. A highly sophisticated boxed cell in which the environment can be manipulated at the touch of a screen. Such as increasing the temperature to an unbearable dry heat or decreasing it to a freezing point below zero – as well as some additional unexpected surprises.
Whatever the initial purpose of developing the chamber, the first 20 minutes of the film are focused on Ruth (Amrita Acharia) who...

This film begins with Shauna Macdonald as ‘Ruth’ trapped in a bright white cuboid with no means of escape. An unseen tormentor with a booming genderless voice commands ‘Ruth’ to do various things and she must obey. To the audience she is merely Ruth the Admin Girl with no clue as to what’s happening or where she is – just that she’s afraid and just wants to make peace with her captor and go home. But as the story of the White Chamber unfolds and we move back in time to 5 days prior to her capture, we see a completely different story to who ‘Ruth’ might actually be and what work is done in the White Chamber.
