Daniel Brühl on ‘Becoming Karl Lagerfeld,’ Meeting the Fashion Icon and Being Seduced by His Co-Star
Daniel Brühl and his portrayal of the late, iconic fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld in new Disney+ series Becoming Karl Lagerfeld were in the spotlight on Thursday at a screening of the first two episodes at the cinema at Selfridges in London.
During a Q&a after the screening, the star said he had to laugh at first when he was asked to take on the role. “I laughed for 30 seconds,” he admitted. “And then I said, ‘This is absurd.’ And then I thought, ‘Hold on, that could actually be kind of interesting.'”
Brühl started his work on getting into character with the help of his one encounter with Lagerfeld, who died in 2019, early on in his acting career. “I met Karl Lagerfeld only once, and he was taking some pictures of me, and I was so nervous,” he shared. Calling the fashion icon “incredibly charming and cool,” he said,...

More than once in Hulu’s Becoming Karl Lagerfeld, the question comes up of what its subject’s style actually is. The answers tend to be equivocal. He’s a “ready-to-wear mercenary” and a “boy wonder” overflowing with ideas. He’s got 20 different modes, and no single signature. His style is to change his style, he says — the noncommittal reply of a man still figuring it out.

Being Karl Lagerfeld is plenty curious about the German designer’s life, particularly the calculations that built his career and the personal relationships that threatened to derail it. But it never captures the essence of who he was or the world he lived in — or what any of that means for a viewer in 2024.

Disney Plus has greenlit Kaiser Karl, a six-episode drama series about the famed fashion designer from Paris-based Lupin producers Gaumont. Jan Koeppen, president of Disney Emea, announced the show during his Series Mania keynote this morning.
The project is based on the biography of the same name by Raphaëlle Bacqué who is attached to the series alongside writers Isaure Pisani-Ferry (Vampires) and Jennifer Have (Unfaithful).
The story begins in the summer of 1972 and traces Lagerfeld’s quest to become successor of Coco Chanel, who died the year prior, and the most successful French couturier at a time when Yves Saint Laurent was the biggest fashion personality. The rivalry between Lagerfeld and Pierre Bergé (Yves Saint Laurent’s partner) as well as Lagerfeld’s love story with Jacques de Bascher will also be central to the series.
“We are now entering the golden age of European content,” said Koeppen today during his address.

The Academy took its time finding its Oscar producers this year.
For three years in a row (2012-2014) they could rest easy knowing that Craig Zadan and Neil Meron were in charge, but since they moved on the AMPAS president Cheryl Boone Isaacs and CEO Dawn Hudson are back to trying to convince someone to take on the often arduous and thankless task.
They usually pick a team to split the chores as they did last year with Reginald Hudlin and David Hill, who by all reports, were like oil and water. That wasn’t going to happen again. With less-than-glowing reviews for the last few Oscars, Isaacs and Hudson were looking for someone they could count on to elevate the event.
The Academy has never found another producer like director Gil Cates, who produced the Oscar show 14 times between 1990 and 2008, bringing in Billy Crystal, Whoopi Goldberg, David Letterman, Steve Martin,...

Jennifer Garner looked as happy as can be after grabbing frozen yogurt in La on Saturday morning. Jennifer spied on Chad and Ciara, Rafe uncovered new information about Aiden, and Summer left Salem with Tate!

Do Jj and Jennifer have any reason to distrust Chad?
Jack: I think Jj saw enough circumstantial evidence to have doubts. Between Chad's sudden relationship with Andre, Ciara's weird testimony, and Chad stating that he will hide Abigail from Jj and Jennifer, there's cause for concern. I don't think Jennifer accosting Ciara or Jj accosting Chad accomplished anything useful in terms of finding Abigail, though.

Jennifer Lawrence volunteered as tribute to take on gender pay inequality, and she's getting plenty of support from her friends in Hollywood -- including one of the guys in the movie she was writing about. Jen's Lenny essay, "Why Do I Make Less Than My Male Co Stars?" seemed to single out her film "American Hustle" without ever mentioning it by name, since she wrote about settling for less than Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, and Jeremy Renner.
Bradley and Jennifer have made multiple films together, and he was one of several stars to weigh in on JLaw's essay after it was posted. While promoting "Burnt" with Sienna Miller, Bradley told E! News he hadn't yet had a chance to read Jennifer's entire essay, but he addressed the basic premise.

Jennifer Aniston flashed her engagement ring as she ran errands around NYC on Thursday just as her onscreen and offscreen friend, Courteney Cox, confirmed big engagement news of her own. Courteney announced on Twitter on Thursday that she had recently gotten engaged to Snow Patrol frontman Johnny McDaid. Meanwhile, Jennifer, who has been engaged to Justin Theroux since 2012, is still battling questions about when she is going to walk down the aisle. Justin joked about the rumors on the red carpet during the premiere of his new HBO series, The Leftovers, saying that he and Jennifer have "hot feet" about their wedding, as opposed to cold ones. "But we're not going to let you guys know (the date)," Justin added. "We're still happily engaged." Maybe now that we have two Friends weddings on the horizon, Courteney and Jennifer will finally be able to get the entire cast together for that oft-talked-about reunion.

That was brutal. I really have almost nothing to say about Sunday (April 27) night's episode of "The Amazing Race." It was an hour-long commercial for Ford in which the "result" was never in question. For the duration of the episode, my notes are nothing more than "Ugh" "Blech" "Boo" and "God, I hate these people." I'm going to be going into the season's last two episodes rooting much more aggressively *against* several teams than I'll be rooting *for* anybody, which I guess is what the producers want at this point. It's all about passion and "hostility" is a kind of passion. And if you would have told me in February that with two weeks to go, Brendon & Rachel would be one of the two teams I'd kinda like to see win this "Amazing Race: All-Stars" season, I'd have told you that you were crazy. But that's what "The Amazing Race" has done to me.

Sleepy Hollow, Season 1, Episode 3: “Blood Moon″
Written by Phillip Iscove and Jose Molina
Directed by John F. Showalter
Airs Mondays at 9:00 Pm Et on Fox
“For the Triumph of Evil” brings the weird back to Sleepy Hollow as Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison) and Abbie Mills (Nicole Beharie) investigate a series of strange of coincidences that are connected to Abbie and her sister Jennifer Mills (Lyndie Greenwood). Much of the plot happens in various characters’ dreams and involves a spirit known as the Sandman. This episode’s strengths are the visual effects and Phillip Iscove and Jose Molina’s ability to use a “monster of the week” episode to flesh out a character’s backstory while simultaneously adding more mystery to the overall season arc. However, the episodes does have some flaws. There is a jarring tonal shift in the third act of the episode where the story shifts...

"Haven" is adding two more recurring actors to its Season 4 cast. Christian Camargo and Emma Lahana will each guest-star in multiple episodes of the Syfy series.
Camargo, best known for playing the Ice Truck Killer on "Dexter," comes on as Wade Crocker, the older brother of Duke (Eric Balfour). Described as charming, driven and devious, Wade at first appears to be the "good" Crocker brother. He is a successful and pleasant businessman, but a dark and deadly secret hidden in the Crocker family could be his undoing.
Lahana ("Hellcats") comes to the show to play Jennifer Mason, an eccentric and energetic young woman who just happens to be hearing strange voices in her head. Could her condition help those in Haven find the missing Audrey Parker (Emily Rose)? Or will Jennifer have an even more important role in the strange town.
Set six months after the Season 3 finale, "Haven" returns...

Jennifer, who was decked out in 1970s retro fashion, chatted with costars Amy Adams and Christian Bale while shooting scenes in front of a yellow school bus. Russell's all-star cast also includes Jeremy Renner, who was caught on set earlier in the day, and Bradley Cooper. Bradley managed to sneak away to Paris for a date night with Suki Waterhouse while the rest of his costars kept up with their characters in the States.
