- Served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1965-69 . In 1967 he deployed to Vietnam with a newly formed unit, the 1st Searchlight Battery. The Battery was attached to the 12th Marine Regiment (artillary). There were 18 searchlights in the Battery and were deployed across the I Corps area (roughly from Da Nang to the DMZ) . The Battery was in 38 combat operations. He was awarded the Marine Corps Combat Action Ribbon for his service in Vietnam.
- Roots to the entertainment business go back to his parents, Charles and Elena "Jimmie" Redlick, who both worked at radio station WHN in New York during the mid 1930s. Charles produced a jazz program. Jimmie was the receptionist for Major Bowes' "The Original Amateur Hour". Friends of the family included: Lew Wasserman, Jules Stein, Lyle Wheeler,George Slaff (Samuel Goldwyn's attorney), Sidney Korshak, Sophie Tucker, Al Jolson, Eddie Cantor & Charlie Correll (Amos & Andy). Attraction to the business began when he met director/writer Billy Wilder, when he was 15 on set of Irma la Douce, being filmed at Samuel Goldwyn Studios. Uncle of animator /filmmaker Dillon Markey. Served in the U.S. Marine Corps (1965-1969) and spent 1 year in Vietnam (1967-1968).
- In 1974 he interviewed for a job at American Zoetrope (San Francisco). "The Conservation" was in post-production and "Godfather II" was in pre-production. The interview was with Ed Imparato and it was done in Francis Coppola's office. On the corner table next to the sofa was the Oscar for GF I. Ed said he liked having interviews in Francis' office to show off the Oscar. In 1974 answering machines were not a commodity (he didn't have one) and he missed the call about employment as an electrician on GF II.
