Luca Guadagnino’s “Queer” made its North American premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on Monday, September 9. His adaptation of William S. Burroughs’ novel stars Daniel Craig and Drew Starkey as the two showcase just how ruinous an addictive, life-altering love can be.
In the film, there’s a graphic sex scene involving Craig and Starkey, where the camera starts on them undressing, then pivots out the window. In “Call Me By Your Name,” Timothée Chalamet and Armie Hammer begin having sex, only for the camera to gear toward the window and cut to another scene. However, with “Queer,” instead of cutting to another scene, it cuts to Craig and Starkey going at it harder than any sex scene Guadagnino has portrayed.
When we asked Guadagnino if the “Queer” scene was rebuking criticisms of the “Call Me By Your Name” sex scenes, at the TIFF premiere, he told us,...

Leonardo DiCaprio’s tendency to play iconic roles has become more of a trademark than a neat trick. Over the years, he has starred in some of the most critically acclaimed films of all time, showing his range as an actor through roles like Jack in Titanic and The Wolf of Wall Street in Martin Scorsese’s classic.

Although most of his works receive attention in the highest regard, in the flashing lights of science-fiction and character acting, some works get lost. In 2011, he starred in Clint Eastwood’s biopic of J. Edgar Hoover. The film covered several controversial subjects surrounding the life of the former director of the FBI.
During an interview, the cast and crew of the project talked about one specific aspect that left a lot of elements unconfirmed; Hoover’s love life.

As an adaptation of “Junkie” author William S. Burroughs’ second novel, “Queer” is about chemical addictions, yes. But it’s even more about being so addicted to a person that, no matter how much you turn yourself inside out trying to get them to love you — charming them with your literary voice, lathering yourself into a stupor on drugs, or even going to the far reaches of a jungle — they will never love you the way you want them to, and even telepathy couldn’t help explain to you why.

Clint Eastwood has made some of the most revolutionary films in his career both as an actor and a director. He has been making films since the 60s and still continues to be inspired and fascinated by the art of filmmaking. While mostly known for his spaghetti westerns with Sergio Leone, he has made some brilliant westerns of his own along with some Oscar-winning dramas.

One would think the good people at Lionsgate might be trying to hide Greedy People by quietly announcing its release in theaters this month, just last week. The Lily James and Joseph Gordon-Levitt vehicle came out on August 23rd with very little fanfare. Not to mention, August (and January) are known as the dumping grounds for films studios are ashamed of.
However, I am relieved to set the record straight: Greedy People is a bloody good time. The film is full of quirky characters, ominous motivations, and moral ambiguity, exploring how ordinary people can be driven to acts of money lust and even murder—all while maintaining the core value of these types of films, where almost no one gets away clean.

Out of all the comic book movies that have failed to see the light of day over the years, George Miller's Justice League Mortal remains the most talked-about.
The Mad Max: Fury Road and Furiosa director's take on DC Comics' iconic super-team came very close to shooting after assembling a cast that included D.J. Cotrona as Superman, Armie Hammer as Batman, and Megan Gale as Wonder Woman.
The project was well into pre-production when the plug was pulled due to the writers strike, and we've seen quite a bit of low-quality concept art and behind-the-scenes photos doing the rounds online over the years.
Now, Ryan Unicomb - who was heading-up the now scrapped documentary about Justice League Mortal - has shared what might be our clearest look yet at one of the actors in full costume.

One of the biggest what-if stories in all of superhero media has just become that much more interesting, with a new, never-before-seen reveal of one of its core cast members. Long before Zack Snyder ever tried to bring the DC pantheon to life on the big screen, director George Miller practically scratched and clawed every step of the way in order to turn the fabled blockbuster "Justice League: Mortal" into a reality. By now, superhero fans have lived for years with hints and rumors of what this team-up film would've looked like. The original pitch would've starred Armie Hammer as Batman, Megan Gale as Wonder Woman, D.J. Cotrona as Superman, Adam Brody as The Flash, Jay Baruchel as Maxwell Lord, and, yes, none other than Common as the Green Lantern.

We Finally Know What George Miller’s Martian Manhunter Would’ve Looked Like in Justice League Mortal
Finally, the Martian Manhunter has revealed himself. A founding member of DC‘s Justice League of America, the shape-shifting Martian J’onn J’onzz was slated to appear in one of the most infamous canceled movie projects, the Justice League film almost directed by Mad Max creator George Miller.
Miller’s Justice League: Mortal would have featured the “Big Seven” most associated with the Justice League, including the Martian Manhunter. And to play the Manhunter, Miller turned to one of his favorite collaborators, Hugh Keays-Byrne, who played Toecutter in the first Mad Max film and would later go on to play Immortan Joe in Mad Max: Fury Road.
Thanks to new behind-the-scenes photos posted by prosthetics artist Antony McMullen, we can finally see what the big screen version of Martian Manhunter would have looked like, as envisioned by Miller and his team. And he looks… pretty much like Martian Manhunter.

If you were to stick a pin in a timeline at the exact moment Silicon Valley declared war on Hollywood, it would likely land on Aug. 29, 1997. That’s the date Reed Hastings and Marc Randolph got together in Scotts Valley, about an hour south of San Francisco, and started a little DVD delivery company called Netflix.
The rest is history: Within just a couple of decades, all the traditional pillars of the old entertainment order started to crumble. Linear television, cable TV, theatrical box office — nothing was left standing, at least not as tall as it once had. This we all know, all too well.
But here’s what’s new. Very recently, just over the past several weeks, there have been signs that Southern California once again is rising — or trying to, at any rate. This time, though, the civil war with the north isn’t over digital platform...

Actor Armie Hammer has spoken out against rumors surrounding his rehabilitation and controversial allegations, offering new insights into his recent struggles.
In an interview with Piers Morgan on Piers Morgan Uncensored, Hammer, 37, addressed speculation about his treatment and relationship with fellow actor Robert Downey Jr. The Call Me by Your Name star firmly denied reports that Downey had financed his rehabilitation, stating, “He did not pay for me to go to rehab.”
While Hammer declined to provide specifics, he acknowledged Downey’s supportive role during his challenging period. The actor described Downey as a figure in Hollywood known for reaching out to those battling addiction issues, whether related to alcohol, drugs or other dependencies.

Armie Hammer may be exiled from Hollywood, as he self-proclaims, but the controversial actor is back on TV…at least, by way of Olympic gold medalist Justin Best.
Best, who recently followed in the women’s gymnastics team’s footsteps by winning a gold medal as part of the U.S. men’s rowing team, credited Hammer’s portrayal of twins Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss in “The Social Network” as the inspiration for him becoming a professional rower. The Winklevoss twins’ lawsuit against Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, portrayed by Jesse Eisenberg, is captured in the David Fincher Oscar-winning film, as well as their rowing exploits.
“So I was in between sports and I was going into my freshman year of high school and I had gotten a concussion in football and I was like, ‘No more football,’” Best told People from the Olympics Team USA house. “And obviously the Winklevoss twins are portrayed,...

Justin Best won the gold medal as part of the U.S. men’s four rowing team, but he shared that it all goes back to a pop culture origin: the Aaron Sorkin-written, David Fincher-directed “The Social Network,” the fictionalized origin story of Mark Zuckerberg and the beginnings of Facebook.

For nearly two decades, a film adaptation of the hit 1960s spy series "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." seemed perpetually on the brink of getting made. Warner Bros. nearly enticed Quentin Tarantino to take it on in the mid-1990s as his hotly anticipated follow-up to "Pulp Fiction," but he chose to make "Jackie Brown" instead. Directors like Matthew Vaughn and David Dobkin circled the project. A-listers Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Christian Bale and Ryan Reynolds (among many others) eyed the film at one point or another. Steven Soderbergh came very close to helming a version starring George Clooney as Napoleon Solo (the role originated by Robert Vaughn), but he backed out over budget issues. The film was a go in 2013 with Guy Ritchie directing Tom Cruise and Armie Hammer as, respectively, Solo and Illya Kuryakin (played by David McCallum on the show), but Cruise stuck with Ethan Hunt and the "Mission: Impossible" franchise.

Midway through The Man from U.N.C.L.E., the normally unflappable Napoleon Solo (Henry Cavill) finds himself in an electric chair about to be tortured by Rudi (Sylvester Groth), a scientist who worked for the Nazis and is now in cahoots with super-villain Victoria (Elizabeth Debicki). Before Rudi is about to flip the switch, though, he dives into a monologue, complete with a “once upon a time” beginning, in which he brags about the human experiments he conducted as a scientist during the war, with Napoleon about to be his latest test subject.

Armie Hammer recently spoke with Piers Morgan and said Hollywood producers would be “smart” to cast actors such as himself or Kevin Spacey as they would probably be able to snag them for a “pretty cheap” price. While Hollywood is certainly always eager to save a buck, I’m not sure I can see that happening anytime soon. Hammer was one of Hollywood’s biggest upcoming actors, but when several women came forward with sexual assault allegations against him in 2021 (not to mention those bizarre cannibalism claims), his career was over.
“If they were smart, they could get guys like two-time Academy Award-winning actor Kevin Spacey for probably pretty cheap right now, for a good project,” Hammer said. As soon as the allegations surfaced, the actor was dropped from pretty much every project on his slate, which led to him seeking multiple jobs in the Cayman Islands. Disgraced actor Armie Hammer was directly asked by host Piers Morgan whether he has engaged in the practice of cannibalism.
The performer, known for his role in the 2017 romantic drama Call Me By Your Name, has been absent from the public eye since 2021 when allegations of sexual assault and unconventional sexual behaviors emerged.
In the interview, Hammer, 37, addressed the claims and asserted that the controversial acts were consensual and a result of experimental sexual role-play between himself and his former partners. When pressed on the matter of cannibalism, the actor provided a definitive response, “You know what you have to do to be a cannibal? You have to have actually eaten somebody.” Hammer firmly denied the notion that he had consumed human flesh.
However, Hammer did acknowledge that he had carved his initials on his then-girlfriend, Paige Lorenze.

As a result of the allegations — which included rape, engaging in cannibalism fantasies and coercing partners into Bdsm scenarios — the “Social Network” and “Call Me by Your Name” actor exited several projects, was dropped by his publicist and agent and became the subject of an LAPD investigation. Ultimately, no criminal charges were brought against Hammer, who has denied the allegations and maintained that all relationships were consensual.

This weekend sees the release of Twisters, a movie that tries to continue the legacy of the classic 1996 film with new stars and cutting-edge VFX and is Universal’s next big hope for a franchise. However, stars Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glen Powell are an unproven commodity at the box office, and no one seems quite sure what kind of opening it will have. One way or another, it’ll open in the top spot, but box office analysts are having a field day. I’ve read reports that run a pretty wide gamut, with some naysayers predicting it won’t open above $40 million, while others, such as the usually reliable BoxOfficePro, expect it to make in the $60-75 million range (an unusually wide spread for them).
The movie’s big selling point, outside the tornadoes, is second-billed star Glen Powell, who Hollywood is positioning as the next big star. While Powell is charming and popular,...

Disgraced actor Armie Hammer declared that, even though he is broke, he had “never been happier” following the sexual assault allegations made against him in early 2021.
The Los Angeles County D.A.’s office announced on May 31, 2023, that they would not charge Hammer with sexual assault. They explained that they could not prove him guilty beyond a reasonable doubt due to his complex relationship with the accuser, who was identified only as Effie.
On July 14, the actor declared while reflecting on the allegations during an appearance on American comedian Bill Maher’s comedy podcast Club Random with Bill Maher.
Maher noted that he heard that his guest was currently “broke.”

Bill Maher just posted a lengthy interview with cannibal fetishist and accused abuser Armie Hammer, who spent over 90 minutes lounging in Maher’s dank, liquor bottle-filled male sadness cove (perhaps inadvertently proving the existence of karma). But earlier that day, Maher delivered some sad news to his fans in the Midwest: He had to cancel his show in Milwaukee.
Maher’s “Wtf? Tour” was all set to come to Milwaukee’s Riverside Theater on July 14th, thrilling fans of HBO’s Real Time, and confusing fans who thought they’d bought tickets to see Marc Maron. But Maher never actually made it
His Milwaukee stop was scheduled to occur just one day before the Republican National Convention, which also ended up being just one day after a gunman shot up a Trump rally. So some folks may have assumed that there were more political reasons behind Maher’s cancellation. But in a social media video,...

The disgraced actor, who was accused of rape but ultimately cleared following a two-and-a-half-year investigation by the LAPD, guested Sunday on Maher’s “Club Random” podcast. The conversation was as random as the title suggests.

Armie Hammer has continued to try to set the record straight about the various explosive allegations made about him several years ago. Some of those claims, which included – believe it or not – allegations of cannibal fantasies, led to a complete career meltdown for the former star. He hasn’t been seen on-screen since 2022’s Death on the Nile (which was filmed before the allegations) and was recently the subject of a documentary series called House of Hammer.
However, Hammer has begun to strike back against some of the allegations of sexual abuse levied at him. Last month, he appeared on a podcast called “Painful Lessons,” and now he’s taken his story to a more high-profile outlet, Bill Maher’s YouTube series, Club Random. In the long-form interview, Hammer claimed that the accusations weren’t true and that he never violated anyone’s consent, claiming to have been cleared by multiple authorities.
However, Hammer has begun to strike back against some of the allegations of sexual abuse levied at him. Armie Hammer joined Bill Maher on his “Club Random” podcast for a rare interview since a series of sexual misconduct and abuse allegations derailed his career.
The “Call Me by Your Name” and “The Social Network” star said he was grateful for the fallout because “had none of this gone on … my life would have kept going exactly as it was. And I know that that would ultimately only lead in one place, and that’s death.”
After sexual assault allegations surfaced against Hammer, the actor exited a number of film and television projects and was dropped by his publicist and agent at WME. The LAPD and L.A. District Attorney’s office investigated the claims in 2023 and brought no criminal charges against Hammer due to “insufficient evidence.” Hammer denies the allegations and holds that his often “intense” sexual relationships with the accusers were consensual.

At least this time, Bill “Everyone Can Be Canceled!” Maher was talking to an entertainer who was actually canceled. On the latest edition of his Club Random podcast, Armie Hammer discussed the real-world consequences of his sex kink/cannibalism/alleged assault scandal. In its aftermath in 2022, Variety reported that Hammer was “totally broke” and selling time-shares in the Cayman Islands. “I loved it,” Hammer told Maher. “It is so fun.”
Maher couldn’t believe Hammer, whose father Armond was an oil tycoon who eventually bought into the Arm and Hammer baking soda dynasty, needed the Cayman cash. “It’s so complicated,” explained the actor, insisting that family members with money always attach strings. “I would rather go get a job selling time-shares. I applied for a job to be a drama teacher. I applied for a job to be a landscaper. I applied for a job to be a building manager.

One actor who came close to comic book movie stardom is Santiago Cabrera. In a recent Hollywood Reporter interview, he opened up about almost playing Aquaman back in 2007. Cabrera – best known from TV’s Heroes – said he officially got the part when George Miller was going to direct Justice League: Mortal.
Miller, the genius behind Mad Max, had cast Cabrera as Aquaman and the movie was gearing up to shoot down in Australia. Cabrera flew all the way there just to meet Miller and try on his Aquaman costume. “It felt so real in that moment,” he reflected. But things change fast in Hollywood. Right as filming was about to start, the writer’s strike hit and stopped the whole project in its tracks.

Many potentially great superhero movies have failed to materialise over the years, though George Miller's Justice League: Mortal remains among the most intriguing.
Only bits and pieces have ever been revealed about the project (an early version of the screenplay is floating around online if you search hard enough), including the fact the Mad Max director considered shooting it completely in motion capture, similar to Beowulf.
Unfortunately, Justice League: Mortal ended up being a victim of the 2007/2008 writer's strike, though it got far enough along to assemble an impressive cast of young actors. The idea was for them to grow into their roles over a series of movies that would have launched a shared DC Universe around the same time the MCU was created.
Adam Brody was cast as Barry Allen/The Flash, with D.J. Cotrona as Superman, rapper Common as John Stewart/Green Lantern, Australian supermodel Megan Gale as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman,...
