Plot: The crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise, under the command of Captain Christopher Pike, confronts increasingly dangerous stakes, explores uncharted territories, and encounters new life and civilizations. The crew will also embark on personal journeys that will continue to test their resolve and redefine their destinies.
Review: After the end of Picard and the announcement that the upcoming fifth season of Discovery would be its last, fans have only one live-action series left in the Paramount+ era of Star Trek. Strange New Worlds debuted last year after the debut of Anson Mount and Ethan Peck as Christopher Pike and Lt. Spock in the second season of Discovery. The series harkened back to the more episodic style of the Original Series and was a fan-favorite. With the new second season continuing the adventures aboard the USS Enterprise and a third season already greenlit, Strange New Worlds’ sophomore run feels...

This Star Trek: Picard article contains spoilers.
When most people think about the cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation, Picard, Riker, Geordi La Forge, Worf, Beverly Crusher, and Data immediately come to mind. They might even think of some of the side characters, like Wesley Crusher and Chief Miles O’Brien, the latter of which went on to play a much bigger role on Deep Space Nine. But Trekkers would agree that when it comes to the best of the recurring characters of Tng, there’s one who stands above even Lieutenant Barclay and Doctor Pulaski: Michelle Forbes’ Ensign Ro Laren.
Introduced in the season five episode that bore her name, Ro was a Bajoran Ensign who clashed with Picard almost immediately. Played with a chip on her shoulder by Forbes, Ro brought an essential bit of conflict to the Enterprise crew, adhering to a moral code that sometimes...

Plot: After receiving a cryptic, urgent distress call from Dr. Beverly Crusher, Admiral Jean-Luc Picard enlists help from generations old and new to embark on one final adventure: a daring mission that will change Starfleet, and his old crew forever.
Review: When the first season of Star Trek: Picard debuted, I gave it a glowing review. I had only seen the first episodes of the season, and while I liked the entirety of it, I was underwhelmed by the uneven ending. The same thing happened for season two: I loved the return of more Next Generation characters, and the early episodes I was given were great, but the season did not stick the landing. I went into the third and final season of Star Trek: Picard cautiously optimistic but prepared to be underwhelmed as I was twice before. Thankfully, this season pivots entirely away from the two that came before...

Chinese film-maker Zheng Lu Xinyuan makes her debut with a dreamlike distillation of a young woman’s alienation from family and friends
“A few days ago, I met someone.” A woman makes the confession matter-of-factly to her on-off boyfriend as they try to find somewhere for dinner. At that moment the camera pans up to the sky, and when it fades back to the street, the couple have gone, vanished into thin air. It’s not the only time that Chinese film-maker Zheng Lu Xinyuan, making her feature debut, cuts away from characters at precisely the moment another director would go in for a close-up; it may drive you crackers.
This film is pure slow-burn arthouse, shot in black and white, the format dominated by flashbacks – perfect for a film that drifts along on scraps and dreamlike fragments. It follows aimless 22-year-old Muzi (Jin Jing) who is back in her hometown,...

The Walking Dead: World Beyond Episode 5
When the Endlings left Campus Colony, they were four kids who didn’t really know each other. Even Hope and Iris, the two sisters, had secrets from one another. Silas kept the secret of why he ended up at Campus. And Elton, the quirky little fellow in the corduroy suit, had secrets of his own. On a show littered with traumatic stories, perhaps none is quite as traumatic as Elton’s, and The Walking Dead: World Beyond puts that trauma, as well as his mother’s manuscript, to great use in explaining Elton’s current character.
One of the things Dan Liu does with his direction, particularly the montage towards the middle of the episode of everyone coming together to build a boat, is get over the importance of pulling together as a team. The kids have been mostly divided,...

The Walking Dead Season 10 Episode 6
Negan isn't the sort of person who would make a good addition to just about any group on The Walking Dead.
He's abrasive, he's loud, he has a huge ego, and he's not exactly the hardest worker or the strongest worker. These are all things that Beta points out to both Alpha and Negan when Negan comes sauntering into the Whisperers camp with his hands tied up. Beta wants to kill him outright, but Alpha seems to have a sixth sense of when people might be useful, so she tells Beta that she wants him to be tested. And if he's found wanting, or if he's found useful, he'll be staying around with the group.

The Walking Dead Season 9 Episode 3
Rick is determined to push the survivors into some sort of Utopian new world, in which everyone works together for the greater good, everyone cooperates, and everybody puts all their dead friends and family members in the past. To Rick, letting go of the past is the best way to honor the dead. As Justin the long-haired Savior's reanimated corpse sits up after being mauled by a group of walkers, the telltale weapon wound in the middle of his chest—which bled out prior to his death, not before—suggests that other people have a different idea of how to honor the dead.

We scoured the disc commentaries and Blu-ray extras on The Walking Dead season 8 release for nerdy tidbits about the show. Spoilers ahead…
This article comes from Den of Geek UK. It contains spoilers.
The Walking Dead season eight Blu-ray disc set has comparatively fewer episode commentaries than usual – just three in total, for episodes three, four, and 16, all of which feature crew and no members of the cast. Perhaps the actors were too busy this year to sit in recording booths and reminisce about on-set pranks and how hot Atlanta gets in summer. Instead, former showrunner Scott Gimple is joined by writer Matt Negrete, director Dan Liu, and new showrunner Angela Kang to talk us through episode three, "Monsters," episode four, "Some Guy," and the season finale, "Wrath."
There are also three featurettes, one in memoriam of the characters who died during the season, one commemorating the life of Carl Grimes,...

With Lionsgate releasing The Walking Dead Season 8 on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital beginning August 21st, we've been provided with an exclusive bonus feature clip that goes behind the scenes of Eric and Aaron's emotional (and heart-wrenching) scene.

There’ve been fan petitions and protests about boycotting the show, leading names are looking likely to leave and ratings are the lowest they’ve been in years. Although the future of The Walking Dead seems uncertain, at least there’s now some concrete news on which features and artwork will accompany the upcoming Blu-ray release of season 8. It’s a small consolation, sure, but we’ll take it.

After two straight weeks of miserable tedium, The Walking Dead rebounds (a bit) with an episode – "Some Guy" – that gets back to one of the series' core strengths: reducing a sprawling post-apocalyptic epic to a few pivotal moments in the lives of ordinary people. Granted, this hour is also soul-crushingly nihilistic, piling personal pain and loss onto the show's last remaining upbeat character. But hey … at least it's exciting while it lasts.
