While no one would call The Strangers a classic horror film, it was certainly one of the more terrifying efforts that the genre produced in the late-aughts and most people seemed to enjoy it. There’s also the fact that it pulled in roughly $82 million off a $9 million budget – not a bad haul for a small horror flick without any A-list stars. As such, it’s no surprise that a sequel was ordered up.
That was several years ago though and ever since, The Strangers 2 has been stuck in development hell. In 2015 we heard that some progress was being made, but then things quieted down again and after the passing of director Marcel Langenegger, who was supposed to get behind the camera here, it seemed like the project might never come to fruition. Now, however, we’ve got a new update and it seems promising.

The long in gestation sequel to The Strangers looks to have finally died a death...
Back in 2008, writer/director Bryan Bertino gave the world the quietly effective home invasion horror, The Strangers. Nearly a decade on, there’s one sequence in the movie in particular that still gets our spine shivering. It's worth giving the movie a spin.
For some time since, there’s been chatter about a sequel to the movie, and even earlier this year, the project was still active. A new director was in place – Marcel Langenegger – and Ben Ketai had penned a new draft of the screenplay.
One of the big obstacles the film faced though was the financial turbulence of its now parent company, Relativity (the same firm that, until recently, held the rights to The Crow remake). In a new interview with Rue Morgue, producer Adrienne Biddle has confirmed that she...

Though The Strangers successfully scared the hell out of audiences (and put director Bryan Bertino on the map), a sequel has yet to materialize, and it seems like every time buzz about one starts to build, it’s undercut a little while later.
And so it is that, despite Deception‘s Marcel Langenegger being tapped for the director’s chair and Ben Ketai (Chosen) emerging as a scribe last January, The Strangers 2 is now reportedly a long way off from rolling cameras.
Talking with Collider, producer Roy Lee has revealed that Relativity’s recent bankruptcy put the kibosh on any progress with the horror sequel. Apparently, though Ketai’s script is still kicking around at the studio, the issue is getting enough money to make a movie out of it.

After suffering a long bout in development hell, the sequel to Bryan Bertino’s 2008 home invasion scarefest is gaining traction. In a new report from The Wrap, we’ve now learned that Relativity are pushing for Marcel Langenegger (Deception) to direct The Strangers 2 this spring. Currently deep in negotiations, Langenegger is being eyed to, once again, make ordinary moviegoers terrified of mask-wearing lunatics. Scribbling duties on the sequel will be tackled by Ben Ketai (Chosen), whose premise for this second bout of stalking looks to top the eerie events of the first.

Milla Jovovich's next role will find her on an Alaskan oil rig, in a movie called Mile Zero... probably. At this point, Jovovich's involvement is more rumor than news. But on a more factual note, Variety reports reports that the horror/thriller, written by Holly Brix, will be directed by Marcel Langenegger (Deception). Since Milla Jovovich + oil + badass hard labor = hotness, I have no doubt that her fans of the masculine persuasion are rooting for her to take the part. Mile Zero follows the story of a woman who gets a job on an oil rig. She wants to get closer to the people on the boat, as she is attempting to prove that her father is innocent of some horrific murders that took place on it. Her tactic is what makes the movie stand out-- she's trying to exonerate her father by proving that the ship is haunted.

Marcel Langenegger has signed a deal to develop the horror film "Mile Zero" for Phoenix Pictures. Milla Jovovich is in talks to star.
Benderspink is producing the film, derived from an original screenplay by Holly Brix that has been set up at Phoenix since 2007. In Brix's spooky genre effort, a young woman takes a job on an Alaskan oil rig so she can prove her father's innocence in a series of murders.
Phoenix execs Mike Medavoy, Arnold Messer and Brad Fischer and "Zodiac" scribe James Vanderbilt are producing.
Jonathan Liebesman, Erik Van Looy and David Alcalde previously were involved with the film as potential helmers.
Phoenix produced "License to Wed" and "Zodiac." It has the Weinstein Co. drama "Shanghai" and the Martin Scorsese-directed Paramount thriller "Shutter Island" set to release in the fall.
Langenegger, repped by CAA and Brillstein Entertainment Partners, directed the Ewan McGregor-Hugh Jackman thriller "Deception.

Maggie Q and Ving Rhames are just two of many to join Fouad Mikati’s upcoming action comedy “Rogue’s Gallery,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Written by Brian Watanabe and Abe Levy, the film centers on the battle between government spy teams in an underground facility. Ellen Barkin, Rob Corddry, Adam Scott and Odette Yustman co-star.
Richard Kelly’s Darko Entertainment handles the production of the project, which kicked off principal photography last week in Los Angeles. Darko is also currently working on “I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell,” an adaptation of Tucker Max’s famous memoir.
Maggie Q most recently starred in Marcel Langenegger’s thriller “Deception.” She will next be seen in “New York, I Love You.” Rhames was last seen in “I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry.” Scott is currently onscreen in “Step Brothers.”
Although I have no clue what this flick will look like when it hits theaters,...

Deception
"Deception" will deceive very few viewers as an all-too-obvious setup leads to a foregone conclusion featuring forgettable characters. When the best thing about a movie is its cinematography and art direction, you know you're in trouble.
Why Hugh Jackman was so excited by Mark Bomback's script to star and produce the film is as big a mystery as why such talents-on-a-roll as Ewan McGregor and Michelle Williams joined the cast.
The background to this movie about a woman's disappearance and a multimillion-dollar heist is an anonymous sex club for upper-crust Manhattanites, so Fox might lure some adults, especially males, hoping for hot action. But even the sex scenes are too perfunctory to turn up the heat. Boxoffice looks equally as tame.
McGregor plays a dull corporate auditor with seemingly no personal life, family or friends. In other words, a sitting duck for Jackman's predatory attorney, whose playboy lifestyle seduces the guileless accountant. Jackman then introduces him to "The List", mobile phone numbers of similar high-powered workaholics who hook up for hotel sex where bodily fluid but no names are exchanged.
These one-night adventures in "intimacy without intricacy," as one date puts it, have a certain softcore giddiness for viewers, especially when Natasha Henstridge and Charlotte Rampling turn up. McGregor falls for a one-nighter, a fragile beauty (Williams) he only knows as S. Then he is knocked out, she is abducted and an unlikely thriller takes hold.
Every plot turn reeks of implausibility, but least convincing of all are the characters, all extreme cases with little to attract audience sympathy. Could anyone be as naive as McGregor's mousy, bespectacled shut-in? Is any villain's ulterior motives so transparent as Jackman's? And has any director, even a first-timer like commercial filmmaker Marcel Langenegger, ever telegraphed so many punches?
Rather than paying attention to the lame melodrama, one instead thrills to the sleekness of Dante Spinotti's lighting and the inherent drama in Patrizia von Brandenstein's white-on-black and black-on-white color scheme.
