Chris Skotchdopole makes his directorial debut with “Crumb Catcher,” a thriller starring Rigo Garay and Ella Rae Peck as the newlywed couple Shane and Leah. Their marriage is on shaky ground from the beginning, as is abundantly clear from their forced body language in wedding photos. Hoping for some alone time on their honeymoon, they instead find their retreat disrupted by John and Rose—an obnoxious caterer and his unsettled wife—who won’t leave Shane and Leah be.

Apartment 7A Trailer: "Paramount+ today released the official trailer for the all-new psychological thriller Apartment 7A, available to stream exclusively on Paramount+ Friday, September 27 in the U.S. and Canada, Latin America and Brazil and on September 28 in the U.K., France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy and Australia. It’s busy and Twister-y at the box office this weekend, but a few indies are hoping to catch a breeze with very well-reviewed Oddity looking to expand the market for high-end horror and Widow Clicquot to attract fans of good period films and bubbly.

Oddity from IFC Films, is a supernatural home-invasion horror from writer-director Damian McCarthy (Caveat). It opens on 790 screens, the widest new indie release this week. Carolyn Bracken stars as Dani, who is restoring an old castle in rural Cork County, Ireland, with her husband Ted (Gwilym Lee), a doctor at a facility for the criminally insane. When Dani is brutally murdered, her blind occultist twin sister Darcy (also Bracken) goes after those responsible using inherited haunted items as her tools of revenge. Premiered in SXSW’s Midnighter section, taking the Audience Award. At 98% with critics on Rotten Tomatoes.

Even Mario Bava’s succinctly titled horror “Hatchet for the Honeymoon” 54 years ago did not imagine a more vividly unpleasant entrée to wedlock than “Crumb Catcher,” Chris Skotchdopole’s feature directorial bow. In this mix of home-invasion thriller and grotesque comedy, a just-hitched young couple already on each other’s last nerves are surprised by uninvited visitors, causing the night to go from bad to very much worse. If you can withstand spending nearly two hours in the company of these grating, argumentative characters, there are rewards to be had in a skillfully wrought, twisty suspense tale that releases to limited U.S. theaters on July 19.

Introduced posing for photos immediately after their wedding, Shane (Rigo Garay) and Leah (Ella Rae Peck) do not appear to be much of a love match. He’s clearly discomfited by the high-end surroundings, which her otherwise disapproving parents apparently bankrolled; she unthinkingly “corrects” his every spoken thought.

Judging by his director’s statement, Chris Skotchdopole had bigger ideas for the allegorical “Crumb Catcher” than his messy debut feature pulls off. That won’t matter to the right audience who, when self-selected, ought to resemble a perfect Venn diagram of Eli Roth’s “Knock Knock” fans and apologists for Michael Haneke’s American “Funny Games” remake.

This bizarre four-hander drama turned psychological thriller — about newlyweds harassed on their honeymoon by a shady couple hocking a mysterious culinary invention — doesn’t quite match the filmmaker’s lofty ambition to say something…anything…that hasn’t already been said about marital malaise and the American Dream. Still, there’s a tasteful sort of nausea contained in Skotchdopole’s sloppy blackmail plot as chunky as it is tragicomic. Chris Skotchdopole’s Crumb Catcher is a tantalizing mix of the absurd and the mundane, with each of those two poles encapsulated by John (John Speredakos), an aging waiter who describes himself as an artist and entrepreneur. With his earnest grin and thinning mane, he registers less as a threat than an annoyance when he accosts a young, just-married couple, Shane (Rigo Garay) and Leah (Ella Rae Peck), in their car, making the sort of insistent small talk that you would seem to need a crowbar to extricate yourself from.

You’ve probably seen this sort of man before. If so, you maybe tried to avoid him. And in Skotchdopole’s feature debut, he shows up in the middle of the night to the lavish home where Shane and Leah spend their honeymoon, subjecting them to the mother of all horrors: a pitch.

In the wake of the film’s Fantastic Fest premiere, Doppelgänger Releasing has acquired U.S. rights to the home invasion movie Crumb Catcher, Deadline reports this afternoon.

Exclusive: Doppelgänger Releasing, the genre-focused label of Music Box Films, has acquired U.S. distribution rights to Crumb Catcher, the debut feature from Chris Skotchdopole.

Crumb Catcher debuted at Fantastic Fest, before going on to play Woodstock Film Festival and Brooklyn Horror Film Festival, where it won the Jury Prize for Best Ensemble and the Gold Audience Award.

The film was written and directed by Skotchdople and was produced by indie vet Larry Fessenden, alongside Brian Devine, Chadd Harbold, Bonnie Timmermann, and James W. Skotchdopole. Doppelgänger Releasing will open Crumb Catcher in theaters later this year, with a home entertainment release to follow.

Dark Sky Films will be giving Blackout, the latest genre film from writer/director Larry Fessenden, a one week theatrical release at the IFC Center in New York City beginning on March 13th, and that theatrical engagement will feature special cast appearances and a Q&a. The film will then be receiving a nationwide release on digital platforms and VOD as of April 12th. Like Depraved, a modern retelling of Frankenstein, Blackout finds writer-director Larry Fessenden once again toying with classic monster tropes. The new film focuses on a tortured artist, Charley (Alex Hurt), whose name is just a few letters removed from “Chaney.” Charley is dealing with a nasty case of werewolfism, which is the same affliction that plagued Lon Chaney Jr.’s character, Larry Talbot, in 1941’s The Wolf Man.

Yellow Veil Pictures announced today they have boarded world sales on Blackout, Larry Fessenden’s werewolf horror film that’s currently in post-production, and have released the first teaser poster. The film wrapped principal photography in the fall in New York’s Hudson Valley and will hit the festival circuit later this year.

Blackout marks the second pairing of Glass Eye Pix, the New York production shingle headed by Fessenden, and Yellow Veil Pictures, having previously collaborated successfully on world sales for Fessenden’s 2019 Depraved, which was released by IFC Midnight in the US to great acclaim.

The film follows a fine-arts painter convinced he is a werewolf wreaking havoc on a small American town every full moon. It is the latest addition to Fessenden’s own Monsterverse, along with his breakout feature, the vampire-themed Independent Spirit Award-Winning feature Habit (1995) and 2019’s Frankenstein riff, Depraved.

Yellow Veil Pictures announced it has boarded world sales on Larry Fessenden’s upcoming horror film “Blackout,” and also released the film’s first teaser poster. The film, which is currently in post-production, will begin the festival circuit later in 2023 after finishing its photography in Hudson Valley, New York this past fall.

The horror film joins Fessenden’s own “monsterverse,” with the New York-based actor and filmmaker’s vampire-themed breakout feature “Habit” (1995) and Frankenstein-inspired “Depraved” (2019).

“Blackout” is the second partnership between Yellow Veil Pictures, a New York City and Los Angeles-based film sales and distribution company, and Glass Eye Pix, an American independent film studio Fessenden founded where he serves as CEO. The two joined forces on world sales for “Depraved,” which was released by IFC Midnight in the United States.

It's pilot season once again for Amazon Studios, and among the five announced shows getting a test run, two seem to offer a little something for the horror crowd. Read on for more about "Hand of God" and "Hysteria."

Big news today: We’re excited to announce Amazon Studios’ third pilot season, beginning August 28th and featuring three half hour comedies The Cosmopolitans, Really and Red Oaks, and two hour-long dramatic thrillers Hand of God and Hysteria. For one month, it will be up to you to watch, rate and comment – ultimately helping us decide which of them get the greenlight.

“There is something for everyone in this season,” says Roy Price, Director of Amazon Studios. The glamorous life of modern day expats in Paris. The hijinks of a summer job at a country club in 1980s New Jersey. The visions of a vigilante judge who appears to be channeling God. Through the first two episodes of "Believe," viewers have seen some of Bo's (Johnny Sequoyah) powers and been told that she may have even greater untapped abilities. What hasn't been explored, though, is the source of her abilities.

The comedy started out with very low ratings and the numbers got worse in week two. They seem to have shown a little growth last night but the ratings were still terrible. As a result, NBC has swung the axe.

I wanted to like Welcome to the Family, I really did. It has a strong cast playing the two sets of parents. Its premise is straightforward, and even contains some weighty issues. Its lead-in is Parks and Recreation.

But I don’t. I strongly disliked the premiere. The show, which centers on two families who must overcome their differences because their teenage children are about to have a baby and want to stay together, had potential, but because everything that could have been good about Welcome to the Family (a.k.a. “Wttf,” as the promos continue to bash into our heads) fails to deliver.

The latest entry into NBC's Thursday night comedy lineup has the makings of a promising new show. "Welcome to the Family" is bit of a spin on "Romeo and Juliet," only it takes place in Southern California and Juliet's pregnant. There's also no death.

Instead of the Montagues and the Capulets, "Welcome to the Family" is about the Yoder and Hernandez families. Dan (Mike O'Malley) and Caroline (Mary McCormack) Yoder are just happy their wild child daughter Molly (Ella Rae Peck) somehow managed to graduate high school, while Miguel (Ricardo Chavira) and Lisette (Justina Machado) Hernandez are ready to see their son Junior (Joseph Haro) off to the ivy league. All of those plans change when Molly tells Junior she's pregnant. Naturally, she does it via text message while he's giving his valedictorian speech at graduation.

Chicago – People often ask me why low-rated NBC shows like “Community” keep getting renewed (or how “Whitney” and “Up All Night” got a second season) and I often turn to a sports analogy — they have no one in the minor leagues to replace them.

And yet last year’s team did so poorly that they cleaned a lot of house and brought in the big guns to try and rebuild the team — Michael J. Fox, Sean Hayes, and Mike O’Malley come to Thursdays. Most people like the Fox show (although more of you should watch it). The same is unlikely to be said about the Hayes and O’Malley vehicles, both premiering tonight and both striking out.

In the past two years, Joseph Haro has gone from playing an unnamed Warbler on "Glee" to a recurring part on "Awkward" to a starring role on NBC's new comedy "Welcome to the Family," which premieres at 8:30 p.m. Et Thursday (Oct. 3).

That's a pretty good career trajectory for a young actor. Haro holds his own just fine opposite the veteran stars of the show -- Ricardo Chavira and Justina Machado as his parents and Mike O'Malley and Mary McCormack as the parents of his girlfriend (Ella Rae Peck), who announces on their high school graduation day that she's pregnant.

Haro's ability to keep up with his well-known co-stars makes him one of Zap2it's Ones to Watch for 2013-14. Get to know him a little better with the following Q-and-a.
