Charles Berliner

Charles Berliner has designed Scenery and Costumes for Entertainment
Industry mediums,inclusive of plays, musicals, film, television, dance
theatre and improvisational theatre. While he has been the Costume
Designer for only one Feature Film (Haunts 1977), as well as several
episodes during four seasons of the internationally acclaimed PBS
Television Anthology Series, VISIONS, he is primarily known for his
Theatrical Designs created for the Live Performing Arts. A selection of
Regional Theaters for which he has designed include: Oregon Shakespeare
Festival, Mark Taper Forum, Milwaukee Repertory Theatre, Missouri
Repertory Theatre, The Cleveland Play House, and The Kennedy Center.In
addition, Mr. Berliner was the Resident Scenery and Costume Designer
for the legendary "UCLA Dance Department" for ten years; The Costume
Designer for the New York based, "Daniel Lewis Dance Repertory Company"
and the Los Angeles based, "Rudy Perez Dance Theatre." Among many
public recognitions for his work: He was nominated as a Costume
Designer for an American Theatre Wing Design Award in 1996, for "The
National Theatre of the Deaf (NTD)" New York engagement of "An Italian
Straw Hat," and he is one of only a few recipients of a "Design Arts
Fellowship for Theatrical Design" from the "National Endowment for the
Arts (NEA-1981)." His Theatrical Designs have been included in several
national and international exhibitions.
