An arcade after hours holds unexpected scares in The Mouse Trap. Friends celebrate a birthday at FunHaven, unaware of the terror that lurks among the skate-ball lanes and pinball machines. When the manager locks them inside, a masked menace starts picking them off. But this is no ordinary killer—it’s Mickey Mouse himself, harnessing supernatural powers from a cursed cartoon.

The concept taps nostalgia with its 90s arcade throwback while putting a horror twist on the debut of public domain Mickey. But delivering the goods proves tricky. Potential for creepy fun exists in the eerie setting, yet the execution is part clunky, part cheeky. The acting ranges from solid anchors to weak links. Efforts to balance horror and humor often clash more than complement.

For all its flaws, The Mouse Trap shows flickers of what could be. When it commits to chills over cringe, an unsettling atmosphere takes hold.

Well, we all knew this was coming: Disney has gone dark thanks to “Steamboat Willie” now being in the public domain.

The earliest version of the conglomerate’s iconic Mickey Mouse character is now up for grabs — and the team behind the upcoming horror film “The Mouse Trap” wasted no time reimagining Mickey as a murderer.

Jamie Bailey directs the twisted take on the mouse with Simon Phillips playing the serial killer version of Mickey. The teaser trailer was released January 1 to announce the project just as the character entered the public domain and legally could be incorporated in Disney-less films.

The official synopsis reads: “It’s Alex’s 21st Birthday, but she’s stuck at the amusement arcade on a late shift so her friends decide to surprise her, but a masked killer dressed as Mickey Mouse decides to play a game of his own with them which she must survive.

Sundance Film Festival 2025 is set to take place on Jan. 23-Feb. 2 in Park City and Salt Lake City, Utah. Submissions will open later this spring.

“While the next Sundance Film Festival is still 10 months away, we’re already laying the foundation for the 2025 edition, looking ahead to sharing a new group of artists’ work with audiences at the start of next year,” said Eugene Hernandez, director of Sundance Film Festival and Public Programming.

This year’s festival marked Hernandez’s first as director. The Grand Jury awarded prizes to films “In the Summers” in the U.S. Dramatic category, “Porcelain War” (U.S. Documentary), “Sujo” (World Cinema Dramatic) and “A New Kind of Wilderness” (World Cinema Documentary).

Natalie Burn is the latest to be cast in John Real’s Middle Ages action flick “The Last Redemption,” which just wrapped production in Italy.

It has only been a day since Disney’s 1928 short film ‘Steamboat Willie’ hit the public domain and a teaser trailer has dropped for the horror ‘Mickey’s Mouse Trap’ featuring Mickey as a serial killer.

The story revolves around a character named Alex who gets stuck working a late shift at an amusement arcade on her 21st birthday. Her friends plan to surprise her, but simultaneously, a killer shows up wearing a Steamboat Willie mask resembling Mickey Mouse. The killer decides to play a game with Alex and her friends, which they must survive to stay alive.

Then director Jamie Bailey and writer/producer Simon Phillips revealed they’re already taking advantage of Mickey’s new public domain status by using a version of the character in their slasher movie Mickey’s Mouse Trap. A trailer for that movie made its way online, but it doesn’t have a release date yet. So technically, the first horror project to use Mickey Mouse is actually the short film The Vanishing of S.S. The earliest version of Mickey Mouse from 1928’s Steamboat Willie just entered public domain, allowing filmmakers free rein to give the character a new spin. One of the first projects to take advantage is a slasher flick titled Mickey’s Mouse Trap, in which the killer dons a Mickey Mouse mask while stalking victims in an amusement park.

As seen in the newly released trailer, Mickey’s Mouse Trap falls into similar territory as the Scream franchise, offering meta commentary about the horror genre. The Mickey Mouse character entered the public domain just yesterday and already the first teaser trailer has been unleashed for Mickey’s Mouse Trap, an upcoming low-budget horror movie that was obviously shot before the character fell into the public domain but is only being announced and previewed now that Disney can’t actually come after the filmmaking team.

How is Mickey Mouse in the public domain, you ask? Well, it’s actually the short film Steamboat Willie (1928) that entered the public domain this year, bringing Mickey along with it. A Killer Mickey video game was also announced already, which is titled Infestation 88.

That someone is Jamie Bailey. Much like last year’s Winnie The Pooh: Blood And Honey, Mickey’s Mouse Trap imagines the lovable mouse as a cold-blooded killer.

Blue Fox Entertainment is launching worldwide sales at the American Film Market on two new slasher features that complete its “Butchers Trilogy” horror project.

The global film sales and U.S. domestic distributor has greenlit production on “Butchers Book Three: Bonesaw,”which is due to go into production this fall in Canada. The second title in the trilogy, “Butchers Book Two: Raghorn,” is currently in post-production.

Blue Fox will debut first-look footage of “Raghorn” for buyers at the Santa Monica market, whilst handling worldwide sales on all three films.

The trilogy is being produced and distributed through Blue Fox’s Red Hound Entertainment label. Grimehouse and NW9 Productions are also producing.

Tagline: "The Ultimate Slay Ride." It is almost Halloween; but, a new Christmas themed horror film is coming to town. The film is titled Once Upon a Time at Christmas. From director Paul Tanter (Age of the Living Dead, 2017), this title involves a murderous Mr. and Mrs. Claus. Together, they attack the holiday season. This title, written by a trio of writers, stars: Sayla de Goede, Simon Phillips, and Brook Fletcher. Once Upon a Time at Christmas was also developed by actor and producer Mem Ferda (Truth or Dare, 2013). A trailer and movie poster are here, now. The trailer shows the troublesome twosome. They invade one home and torment a lady. There are more victims as Christmas approaches. And, this is one holiday season that will be covered in blood! The official movie poster also shows one of the villains. The tagline: "the ultimate slay ride" promises a large body count.

Born on Halloween night (in the Us, although it was already November 1st in Yugoslavia), actor Massimo Dobrovic has shared a link with the horror genre since his birth, and he's strengthened that connection over the years with memorable roles in a wide range of films and TV series. After stepping into the world of vampires in Nocturna, Massimo turns his attention to zombies with key roles in two upcoming TV series, Age of the Living Dead and Feel the Dead. Voltage Pictures represents worldwide sales rights to the six one-hour horror series.

Paul Tanter directs and Simon Phillips produces Age Of The Living Dead, which takes place in a country consumed by an apocalyptic plague of vampirism and war.

An uneasy truce exists between the vampires on the East Coast and humans on the West Coast who keep their foes at bay with a weekly blood donation while secretly planning a nuclear strike to end the war.

The series stars Nicola Posenor, David Meadows and Estella Warren. Aold Productions’ Philips and Hmb’s Phil Goldfine brokered the deal with Chartier.

This time, in the year 2065, survivors of a great war seek out habitable planets. But, they must compete with other survivors, in search of the same goal. You've got to check out this trailer for an incredible looking film in development called The Last Scout. This is an independent film directed by Simon Phillips, and he made it on a shoestring budget. He is currently trying to raise funds through Indiegogo so that he can finish the VFX and other post-production work. The movie is a sci-fi space thriller, and from what I've seen in this trailer this looks like it could be an incredibly impressive movie for what they've had to work with to make it.

The story takes place in the year 2065, and earth has been destroyed after a nuclear war between the East and the West. It kind of has the same vibe as Christopher Nolan's Interstellar, as mankind is forced to leave earth to try and survive by finding a new home.

This is a must watch trailer for an indie sci-fi that seems to be going for something similar in scope to Christopher Nolan's Interstellar, except made on a shoestring budget. The Last Scout is a sci-fi space opera epic from filmmaker Simon Phillips that we first teased last year with a dark poster. Over a year has passed and we haven't heard or seen anything about this, but out of nowhere a teaser trailer has appeared, and the filmmakers are asking for Indiegogo funds to finish VFX and other post-production work. Paul Tanter’s White Collar Hooligan trilogy draws to a close with this first look at the concluding film, set against the backdrop of the World Cup.

Subtitled Revenge in Rio what the Nsfw trailer hints at is a situation spiraling out of control, with the gang following the World Cup to catch up with, and then beat up, some old friends.

Simon Phillips, Rita Ramnani and Vas Blackwood are joined by newcomer Josh Myers, who looks to be the man to end it all.

Paul Tanter's Shame the Devil is releasing on home entertainment formats today. The film involves a serial killer and one detective's mission to find him. Also, Shame the Devil stars Simon Phillips (He Who Dares), Juliette Bennett (White Collar Hooligan 2), Doug Bradley (Hellraiser), Kellie Shirley ("Eastenders"), Peter Barrett and Peter Woodward. Several characters give dishonest answers and the victims pile up. Now, Detective James (Phillips) is searching for clues. If I was to ask you to think of action movies set in tower blocks you could probably come up with movies like Die Hard, Dredd and The Raid as being some of the most popular. Working with these type of settings it allows the film to have a certain controlled level of action and even set the fighting at levels of hardness. This is something that He Who Dares does, but at a low-budget and with a certain degree of British patriotism.
