Following in the footsteps of Winnie The Pooh: Blood & Honey, The Mouse Trap will turn Mickey Mouse into a bloodthirsty killer.
What strange times we live in. Not only have we had two Winnie The Pooh themed horror films and a Cinderella one in the works, we’re also getting a Mickey Mouse slasher this September.
The Mouse Trap, formerly known as Mickey’s Mouse Trap, is skipping cinemas altogethe and heading to digital retailers on 30th September.
Take a look at the trailer.
Jamie Bailey is on directing duties while Simon Phillips, who also plays the mouse-turned-killer, has penned the script. The film’s first teaser trailer was posted online immediately after the character of Steamboat Willie became available in the public domain on 1st January.

We’ve had Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey as well as its sequel, and a horror movie centred around Bambi is on the way. But the film that must really piss Disney off is The Mouse Trap. Filmed as Mickey’s Mouse Trap, which was probably a bit too much for the lawyers to allow, it turns their iconic rodent, or someone dressed him, into a psychotic killer.
A film like The Mouse Trap is only possible because the original Mickey Mouse cartoon, Steamboat Willie, finally slipped out from under copyright protection and into the public domain. So now Mickey, or the version of him in that cartoon, is fair game for other filmmakers. Something that a Star Wars-style open text crawl reminds the viewer of.

An arcade after hours holds unexpected scares in The Mouse Trap. Friends celebrate a birthday at FunHaven, unaware of the terror that lurks among the skate-ball lanes and pinball machines. When the manager locks them inside, a masked menace starts picking them off. But this is no ordinary killer—it’s Mickey Mouse himself, harnessing supernatural powers from a cursed cartoon.
The concept taps nostalgia with its 90s arcade throwback while putting a horror twist on the debut of public domain Mickey. But delivering the goods proves tricky. Potential for creepy fun exists in the eerie setting, yet the execution is part clunky, part cheeky. The acting ranges from solid anchors to weak links. Efforts to balance horror and humor often clash more than complement.
For all its flaws, The Mouse Trap shows flickers of what could be. When it commits to chills over cringe, an unsettling atmosphere takes hold.

On January 1st, the earliest versions of Mickey Mouse – seen in the animated shorts Plane Crazy, The Gallopin’ Gaucho, and most famously Steamboat Willie – became public domain… which, of course, means we’re now going to get multiple horror movies that feature characters inspired by Mickey Mouse. Within the first three days of the year, we saw the short film The Vanishing of S.S. Willie, a trailer for the slasher movie Mickey’s Mouse Trap, and an announcement that Terrifier 2 producers Steven Della Salla and Michael Leavy and director Steven Lamorte, who previously made the Grinch-inspired horror movie The Mean One, were teaming up for a Steamboat Willie-inspired horror flick that we now know is titled Screamboat. Mickey’s Mouse Trap has since undergone a title change of its own – it’s now simply known as The Mouse Trap, and it’s set to receive a VOD release from Gravitas Ventures on August 6th,...

‘The Mouse Trap’ Trailer: Mickey Mouse Is a Serial Killer in an Inevitable Public Domain Horror Film
Well, we all knew this was coming: Disney has gone dark thanks to “Steamboat Willie” now being in the public domain.
The earliest version of the conglomerate’s iconic Mickey Mouse character is now up for grabs — and the team behind the upcoming horror film “The Mouse Trap” wasted no time reimagining Mickey as a murderer.
Jamie Bailey directs the twisted take on the mouse with Simon Phillips playing the serial killer version of Mickey. The teaser trailer was released January 1 to announce the project just as the character entered the public domain and legally could be incorporated in Disney-less films.
The official synopsis reads: “It’s Alex’s 21st Birthday, but she’s stuck at the amusement arcade on a late shift so her friends decide to surprise her, but a masked killer dressed as Mickey Mouse decides to play a game of his own with them which she must survive.

As of January 1st, the earliest versions of Mickey Mouse – seen in the animated shorts Plane Crazy, The Gallopin’ Gaucho, and most famously Steamboat Willie – became public domain. Then director Jamie Bailey and writer/producer Simon Phillips revealed they’re already taking advantage of Mickey’s new public domain status by using a version of the character in their slasher movie Mickey’s Mouse Trap. A trailer for that movie made its way online, but it doesn’t have a release date yet. So technically, the first horror project to use Mickey Mouse is actually the short film The Vanishing of S.S. Willie, which was released through the Night Signal Entertainment YouTube channel yesterday. You can check it out in the embed above.

The first of January marks the time when some characters and stories enter the public domain, which means that other creators can use them. We've already seen that happen with the likes of :a[Winnie-The-Pooh: Blood And Honey]{href='https://www.empireonline.com/movies/reviews/winnie-the-pooh-blood-and-honey/' }, which despite being fairly dreadful, made enough to spawn a sequel. This year, it's the turn of Mickey Mouse –– or at least, the version of the character and some others as seen in 1928 short 'toon Steamboat Willie. At least two horror movies are in the works, with one, Mickey's Mouse Trap already at the teaser stage, and you can find the footage below…

"The Mouse is out." Surprise, surprise, they've already turned Mickey Mouse into a horror icon. Mickey's Mouse Trap is the first ever Mickey Mouse horror movie from filmmaker Jamie Bailey. If you didn't hear already, starting in 2024 the original Mickey Mouse first introduced in Disney's classic animated Steamboat Willie short from 1928 is now in the "public domain" and no longer copyrighted. Which means anyone can do whatever they want with it and of course they first thing someone does is turn it into horror (they always do this - same with Winnie the Pooh). "We just wanted to have fun with it all. I mean it's Steamboat Willie's Mickey Mouse murdering people. It's ridiculous. We ran with it and had fun doing it." Okay. The film stars Sophie McIntosh, Callum Sywyk, Allegra Nocita, Ben Harris, Damir Kovic, Mackenzie Mills, Nick Biskupek, and Simon Phillips. Yep this looks as dumb and...

The earliest version of Mickey Mouse from 1928’s Steamboat Willie just entered public domain, allowing filmmakers free rein to give the character a new spin. One of the first projects to take advantage is a slasher flick titled Mickey’s Mouse Trap, in which the killer dons a Mickey Mouse mask while stalking victims in an amusement park.
As seen in the newly released trailer, Mickey’s Mouse Trap falls into similar territory as the Scream franchise, offering meta commentary about the horror genre. After one character says he’ll be right back, another comments, “Well, he’s dead. Like, if he was in a horror movie, you’d never say, ‘I’ll be right back,’ because then you don’t.” Watch it below.

Winnie the Pooh got his own (unofficial) horror movie last year with Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, and this year it’s Mickey Mouse’s turn to (unofficially) do a little slicing and dicing.
The Mickey Mouse character entered the public domain just yesterday and already the first teaser trailer has been unleashed for Mickey’s Mouse Trap, an upcoming low-budget horror movie that was obviously shot before the character fell into the public domain but is only being announced and previewed now that Disney can’t actually come after the filmmaking team.

Following in the footsteps of Winnie The Pooh: Blood And Honey, Mickey’s Mouse Trap is taking full advantage of a famous character being in the public domain now.
Well, it was bound to happen. With Mickey Mouse entering the public domain on 1 January, someone was going to make the iconic mouse the star of a horror film.
That someone is Jamie Bailey. Much like last year’s Winnie The Pooh: Blood And Honey, Mickey’s Mouse Trap imagines the lovable mouse as a cold-blooded killer.

Well, that didn’t take long.

That is a remarkably generic title for this horror film, which also just seems like a sort of remake/remix of The Thing, with a similar premise. Two scientists uncover a meteorite impact site in the Arctic tundra, but it kills one scientist and infects the other. A nearby base takes in the lone survivor whilst trying to understand what happened. The lone survivor may not be the person they think she is. Of course not, have they ever seen The Thing – any three of the movies? Blood & Snow stars Simon Phillips, Vernon Wells, Anne-Carolyne Binette, Blake Canning, Michael Swatton, & Brianna Ripley. This premiered at a festival earlier in the year, however with Tubi premiering it soon they've put out a trailer to get a look at it. When a young couple vacations on an exotic island, they encounter a dangerous fugitive who is determined to keep them from leaving. This seems to be set in the Philippines but they never mention it. Another one of these projects they made just so they could take a vacation and write off expenses, while making a junk action film no one will watch. It stars Deji Laray, Shayla Hale, Michael Bacalso, Ken Bressers, Andrew Davis II, Kylah Dela Peña, with Simon Phillips as Kane. Of course this guy just happens to be a former Black Ops,...

Quick cuts on-screen show a frightened woman chased by an unseen figure as credits roll, with the juxtaposition of audible love and visual fear crafting an intrigue for what circumstances will occur. Sadly, what unfolds cannot match this initial intrigue.
Fiancées Sarah (Shannon Dalonzo) and Michael (Justin Gordon) are driving across a desert setting, passing the time with hypothetical situations. They’re journeying to visit Sarah’s ill father, as she hopes he’ll be able to attend their wedding. Thorns: "Something terribly wrong is happening inside NASA’s Iron Mountain observatory. It received an image from a deep space probe from what appears to be the edge of the solar system. On screen an eclipsed planet of unknown origin. Could this be the fabled 9th planet mankind has been searching for? An eerie signal transmits over the speakers, a rhythmic drone possibly a signal from the planet? But wait, something more. Deep within the signal, a faint sinister chatter. It sounds demonic. Have we discovered life across the galaxy? Down the hall, a distraught scientist, Dr. Malik. sits on the cold restroom floor looking unkept and unshaven. He hasn’t slept in days and appears deeply unnerved. Voices in his head motivate him to the mirror where he looks deep into his eyes. Wait, what is that? Something crawling in his eye? A black shape slithers across his sclera.

You've got to check out this trailer for an incredible looking film in development called The Last Scout. This is an independent film directed by Simon Phillips, and he made it on a shoestring budget. He is currently trying to raise funds through Indiegogo so that he can finish the VFX and other post-production work. The movie is a sci-fi space thriller, and from what I've seen in this trailer this looks like it could be an incredibly impressive movie for what they've had to work with to make it.
The story takes place in the year 2065, and earth has been destroyed after a nuclear war between the East and the West. It kind of has the same vibe as Christopher Nolan's Interstellar, as mankind is forced to leave earth to try and survive by finding a new home.
The movie stars Rita Ramnani, Peter Woodward, Simon Phillips, Rebecca Ferdinando,...

The year 2065 - war has destroyed Earth, mankind has been forced to leave. This is a must watch trailer for an indie sci-fi that seems to be going for something similar in scope to Christopher Nolan's Interstellar, except made on a shoestring budget. The Last Scout is a sci-fi space opera epic from filmmaker Simon Phillips that we first teased last year with a dark poster. Over a year has passed and we haven't heard or seen anything about this, but out of nowhere a teaser trailer has appeared, and the filmmakers are asking for Indiegogo funds to finish VFX and other post-production work. This trailer actually looks good, despite ending on that obnoxious explosion, but I'm still interested in checking this out. As long as it gets finished. Here's the first official teaser trailer for Simon Phillips' The Last Scout, direct from Vimeo: The official synopsis from...

Paul Tanter's Shame the Devil is releasing on home entertainment formats today. The film involves a serial killer and one detective's mission to find him. Also, Shame the Devil stars Simon Phillips (He Who Dares), Juliette Bennett (White Collar Hooligan 2), Doug Bradley (Hellraiser), Kellie Shirley ("Eastenders"), Peter Barrett and Peter Woodward. A preview of the release is here. Taking a note from the Saw film series, Shame the Devil offers characters a test. They must tell the truth or face death. Several characters give dishonest answers and the victims pile up. Now, Detective James (Phillips) is searching for clues. This detective and the killer will meet in the back alleys of New York, for a final confronation. Several stills have recently been released for the film. The three stills show various characters, from this title. James looks for the killer, while another man faces the barrel of a gun.

If I was to ask you to think of action movies set in tower blocks you could probably come up with movies like Die Hard, Dredd and The Raid as being some of the most popular. Working with these type of settings it allows the film to have a certain controlled level of action and even set the fighting at levels of hardness.
