Composer, songwriter, author and pianist Ruth Lowe was educated in Toronto public schools and joined the CBC and then the Ina Ray Hutton orchestra as pianist, featured on radio and in theaters. She also worked for a time in a Chicago music publishing company as its demonstration pianist. Joining ASCAP in 1940, her popular-song compositions included "I'll Never Smile Again", "Put Your Dreams Away (for Another Day)", "Ode to an Alligator", "Won't Somebody Please Write a Song?", "A Touch of Love", "A Short, Short Story", "Too Beautiful to Last", and "Take Your Sins to the River".
