- Stage and screen character actress, trained in St. Petersburg. Made her theatrical debut in 1901. From 1911, active on the Berlin stage, notably as ensemble member of the Deutschen Theater. A reliable presence in films from 1916, she was usually cast in matronly or maternal roles.

- In the 20's followed many support roles in some of the most important German silent movies like "Das Kabinett des Doktor Caligari" (1920), "Die Buddenbrooks" (1923), "Der Meister von Nürnberg" (1927) and "Atlantik" (1929).

- The actress Elsa Wagner came after a successful theater career to the film at the end of 10's.
- She became established in the talkies as a reliable actress in small but often easily remembered parts.
- When the German film business was destroyed after the war there were only few stimulating impulses at the beginning.
