Over two decades after getting her start in the music industry, Nelly Furtado is still turning heads. The Canadian singer and songwriter was recently in New York City to discuss her new album, 7. She looked casually chic and glowingly beautiful as she strolled through the streets of Manhattan.

On Sept. 20, Furtado released her seventh studio album, 7. This is also her first album in seven years. While promoting her new project, Furtado stepped out in New York City wearing a matching charcoal gray sweat suit. She accessorized with a small black handbag with gold accents. She also wore gold rings, hoop earrings, and a thick gold collar necklace. A pair of rhinestoned sunglasses topped off the look.
Furtado wore her hair in a high bun. Her makeup kept her looking glowy and sunkissed in the waning days of summer.

There have been multiple instances in Hollywood’s entertainment industry where actors and actresses were left feeling incredibly uncomfortable because of the inappropriate ways they were treated. While not restricted to, this also made its way to the award ceremonies, where unfortunate events like Scarlett Johansson uneasily getting her left br**st groped by an interviewer took place.

Yes, you read it right, for the fearlessly bold Johansson has also been a victim of such inappropriate gestures during those high-tier events. If anything, even the actress herself was left confused when interviewer Isaac Mizrahi, who is actually a gay fashion designer, squeezed her left br**st without her permission while interviewing her on the red carpet during a live TV broadcast!

People in the entertainment industry seem to get into awkward and embarrassing situations all the time, especially after getting drunk at some major events and afterparties. And while we do know that the first name to have popped into your mind after reading this must have been Jennifer Lawrence’s, this one’s about someone else entirely: Robert Pattinson.

As it turns out, Pattinson once got drunk enough to get into a fight after midnight with none other than the iconic diva who made her way to becoming one of the top artists in the music industry from scratch, Adele. And, unsurprisingly enough, things didn’t really turn out all too well for the Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire star, as he later admitted just how much he regretted that encounter.

Daniel Radcliffe Stopped Partying With His ‘Harry Potter’ Co-Stars to Be Taken Seriously as an Actor
Daniel Radcliffe didn’t mind partying with his fellow Harry Potter castmates on set. But there came a point where the actor left that lifestyle behind for the sake of his career.

When Canadian specialty station MuchMusic launched in August 1984, founders John Martin and Moses Znaimer had about two hours of planned content to fill six hours of airtime. Their strategy? Pack the place with notable faces, create a party atmosphere in the control room “stage,” and let inaugural VJs Christopher Ward and J.D. Roberts figure out the rest as they went along.
Thus, the iconic “Nation’s Music Station” was born.
It was a scrappy, wild atmosphere in which inexperienced but music-loving kids stepped in front of the cameras with free reign to experiment and play the videos they loved. There were no rules and even less structure, but it worked. At the height of its popularity, MuchMusic was the global destination for artists of all genres. And it was led by a diverse and history-making group of hosts who connected those artists with fans in a new way—through the legendary studios at 299 Queen St.

Back in 2020, Indigenous filmmaker Jeff Barnaby applied his fresh perspective to the zombie movie with Blood Quantum, one of the year’s very best horror movies. Today Bloody Disgusting is deeply sad to report the news that Barnaby has passed away at just 46 years old.
Prior to Blood Quantum, Barnaby directed several short films including From Cherry English and The Colony, and he directed his first feature in 2013 with Rhymes for Young Ghouls.
With Barnaby’s passing, we’ve lost a talented filmmaker whose career was only just beginning. More importantly, a filmmaker whose voice and perspective are truly irreplaceable.
An official statement sent to press this afternoon reports, “Acclaimed filmmaker Jeff Barnaby passed away after a year-long battle with cancer. Jeff was born and raised on the Mi’gmaq community of Listuguj. He spent his adult life living in Montreal, Quebec and is survived by his wife Sarah Del Seronde and son Miles.

Exclusive: Netflix has set Michael Sugar’s Sugar23 in an exclusive, multi-year overall deal for scripted series programming. The deal also includes a first look for unscripted series. Sources said it’s an unusually rich deal for a non-writing producer.
It puts Sugar’s TV deal under the same roof as his feature deal, which was brokered last October. Sugar and head of production Ashley Zalta spearhead both divisions for Sugar23. It also comes after Sugar served as an exec producer on the Netflix series Maniac, which Cary Fukunaga directed and which starred Emma Stone, Jonah Hill and Justin Theroux.
Sugar also previously worked with Netflix on the series side on The Oa, and 13 Reasons Why. In features, Sugar — who won an Oscar for producing Best Picture winner Spotlight — is a producer on the Steven Soderbergh-directed The Laundromat for Netflix, which stars Meryl Streep, Gary Oldman and Antonio Banderas.

Great eras are often marked by a famous adage. For the Enlightenment Era, just after the Renaissance swept Europe, it was the axiom coined by Descartes: “Cogito, ergo sum”
For the McConaissance, a period of rebirth for actor Matthew McConaughey, it was a more casual mantra: “Alright, alright, alright.”
McConaughey recited those three words in his acceptance speech at the 2014 Academy Awards for winning Best Actor. It marked the height of the McConaissance, with the actor appearing in critically-acclaimed projects such as “True Detective” and “Dallas Buyers Club,” the latter of which won him the Oscar.
Of course, the origin of the easy-going phrase predates the McConaissance, going back even before the McConaughey rom-com epoch. He first uttered his famous tagline in Richard Linklater’s 1993 coming-of-age film, “Dazed and Confused,” 25 years ago.

Co-chaired by Natasha Koifman and Suzanne Boyd, the event was co-hosted by an influential team, including Apj board co-chairs Ben Stiller and Susan Sarandon, along with Jackson Browne, George Stroumboulopoulos, Yannick and Shantelle Bisson.
The event kicked off with a live-art “red” carpet led by acclaimed New York-based pop artist Peter Tunney. Inspired by the arrivals moment that the artist created at the inaugural event in the same location in 2009, Peter encouraged high-profile guests to dip their feet in blue paint to transform a canvas with a stencil that read “Grattitude.” The sentiment behind this piece celebrates the...

Long before he blew the roof off with his Oscar-winning performance in Dallas Buyers Club, or journeyed through a wormhole and beyond for Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar, Matthew McConaughey got his big break thanks to Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation.
Initially released in ’94, Kim Henkel’s instantly forgettable slasher sequel placed McConaughey alongside Renée Zellweger – for the record, Zellweger also made her start running away from Vilmer Slaughter. But had things panned out differently, Matthew McConaughey would have been the hero of Henkel’s horror flick, and not the bat-shit insane psychopath hobbling around on a mechanical leg.
In a previous interview on George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight (via Bloody Disgusting), the Oscar-winner confirmed that he was initially offered a Romeo-esque role to Zellweger’s Juliet.

Most people familiar with Richard Linklater's "Dazed and Confused" know that Matthew McConaughey's character in the film, David Wooderson, says the now famous McConaughey-ism "all right, all right, all right" (which became the actor's mantra throughout this past awards season, right up to the Oscar podium). But how did McConaughey come up with the idea to incorporate that into his first big-screen role? Watch below. Complex has dug up a 2011 interview between George Stroumboulopoulos and McConaughey, wherein the actor explains he'd been listening to a live recording by the Doors as prep before shooting his scenes in "Dazed and Confused." Jim Morrison yells "all right" four times at the start of a song. And so the catch phrase was born. ) )...

During his Best Actor acceptance speech at this year's Oscars, Matthew McConaughey slipped in a subtle allusion to David Wooderson, the eternal slacker he played in Richard Linklater's 1993 classic Dazed and Confused: After reflecting on the power of being one's own hero, the actor concluded his speech with a triumphant "All right, all right, all right," referencing a classic Wooderson scene (the one where he flirts with red-head Marissa Ribisi in a drive-thru).

Thanks to True Detective, Dallas Buyers Club and a handful of other brilliant projects, Matthew McConaughey has spent the past few years transforming himself into one of Hollywood.s most celebrated leading men. Gone are leading roles in forgettable projects like Fool.s Gold. In are brilliant turns in things like The Wolf Of Wall Street. It.s been a hell of a run, but even so, there are still many who prefer to remember the Texan by his beloved early Dazed And Confused catch phrase "Alright, Alright, Alright." Luckily, that.s okay with McConaughey himself. He belted it out during his Oscar speech, and he.ll probably still be saying it decades from now, which is pretty impressive considering it was originally an ad-libbed screw-up. Back in 2011, McConaughey told the origin story of the phrase to Canadian television personality and new Hockey Night In Canada host George Stroumboulopoulos. And...

“You know what a Fugazi is? A Fugazee, fugazi, it’s a wahzee, it’s a woozee, it’s [whistles], fairy dust.” Matthew McConaughey is in Martin Scorsese’s three hour opus “The Wolf of Wall Street,” for what, all of fifteen minutes? But as per usual in the last few years, he steals the show as Leonardo DiCaprio’s insane Wall Street d-bag mentor. His rules for living, as mentioned in our review is, “masturbate several times a day and ingest generous amounts of cocaine.” And of course that scene is topped off with Big Mac’s now infamous chest-beating sequence where McConaughey’s character hums his strange mantra – “Mmmmhhhmmm......mmhhhmmm....mhhhmmm.” We suppose the remix was inevitable and well, it’s arrived thanks to the folks over at Eclectic Method who given it the preordained dubstep-y remix. Meanwhile, in an old, pre-McConaissance interview making the rounds from 2011, the actor...

After Matthew McConaughey took home an Oscar for his work in Dallas Buyers Club, CBC’s George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight decided to post a 2011 interview with the actor. Why? Because it explains the catchphrase that McConaughey has uttered in just about every awards acceptance speech this season: “Alright, alright, alright.”
And now, the interview has caught people’s attention on Reddit. Not surprisingly, post-McConaissance Matthew seems to have a bigger following that the young kid who once made Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation.
In the interview, McConaughey discusses getting into character as David Wooderson in his first film, Dazed And Confused.

"All right, all right, all right" came full circle on Oscar night, with Matthew McConaughey saying the magic phrase upon winning Best Actor. But where did it start? We know he said it in his debut Dazed and Confused, but why? Aaron Paul spent five seasons on and won two Emmys for his role as wounded drug addict and meth manufacturer Jesse Pinkman on AMC’s Breaking Bad. Praised for his complex performance and beloved for his character’s propensity to tag the word “bitch” onto the end of his sentences, Paul had a wealth of scripts waiting on his desk by the time “Felina” rolled around. The day after wrapping the series finale, the actor was in California, beginning work on Need for Speed, an adaptation of the popular racing video game series.
In the film, Paul plays Tobey Marshall, a motor mechanic who’s out for revenge after he is framed for a crime that he did not commit. The actor gives the role the drive and intensity that any Breaking Bad fan would expect, but he gets to have a bit more fun in this action vehicle, which...

I have just returned from a lovely and instructive time, my third year in a row, at Whistler.
It was 'cool' in all meanings of that term. Whistler itself is a cozy, comfortable BC Canadian town, a few hours drive up from Vancouver.
It is high in the mountains so it is frigid, but with the right clothes and knowing where one is going then no damage is done. I survived and treasure the memories of this year's event.
I bonded with longtime biz pals Kirk D'Amico of Myriad, Steve Gaydos of Variety and Jon Gerrans of Us distributor Strand Releasing. Shauna Hardy Mishaw, founder and Fest Head was, as always gracious and it was great fun to see her again.
The films were good and the 'film biz' panels relevant. I moderated one on New Distribution featuring Canadian companies discussing their outlook in the new digital cinema age.
There were some stars there and very comfortable presentations and panel discussions.
The Festival supplied the following items: BC-bred talent Jason Priestley discussed his directorial debut Cas & Dylan during a special In Conversation hosted by George Stroumboulopoulos.
Oscar winning actor Richard Dreyfuss joined Priestley for the Opening Gala presentation of Cas & Dylan, and discussed his starring role in the film and career highlights during a special Tribute event with Variety’s VP and Executive Editor, Steven Gaydos.
Oscar winner and star of this year’s box office hit Prisoners, Melissa Leo graced the Festival’s red carpets as Wff’s Luminary honoree.
Actresses Ali Liebert and Emily Hampshire were both honored as Wff’s Stars to Watch awards at this year’s Spotlight On event presented by Elle Canada.
I particularly enjoyed Gaydos' panel on screenwriting. Seven out of the Variety 10 Screenwriters To Watch were in Whistler to receive recognition and chat to Variety’s VP Steven Gaydos’s. Screenwriters included Andrew Dodge (Bad Words); Kieran Fitzgerald (Bambi); Morgan David Foehl (The Asset); Barbara Marshall (The Exorcism Diaries); Michael Mitnick (The Giver); Jonathan Tropper (One Last Thing Before I Go); and Canadian Elan Mastai (The F Word).
The Wff Audience Award went to Jason Priestley’s charming road movie Cas & Dylan, one of six contenders in the Borsos Competition for Best Canadian Feature which features a heart-warming turn by movie icon Richard Dreyfuss and another scene-stealing performance by Tatiana Maslany, who won Best Performance in a Borsos Competition film for the second year running.
The Wff Audience Award runner up went to The Grand Seduction, a Canadian comedy directed by Don McKellar and written by Ken Scott. The Wff Audience Award is a non-cash prize presented to the highest-rated film as voted by the audience.
"This was a transformative year for the Whistler Film Festival, audiences and critics alike responded extremely well to our industry Summit and incredible line-up of films - half of which were Canadian,” says Paul Gratton, Wff’s Director of Programming. “Audiences were more enthusiastic than ever before, cross border business was done, and the caliber of celebrities that graced our presence was incredible. Our two Academy Award winners, Richard Dreyfuss and Melissa Leo were beyond inspiring, and Jason Priestley’s directorial debut with Cas & Dylan was a hit among industry executives and the public. We are very excited to carry this success forward for Wff 2014.”
The Whistler Film Festival celebrated its 13th edition as one of Canada's leading festivals from December 4 to December 8 with an intimate five-day program of screenings, tributes, special events and industry initiatives. Wff showcased 84 films consisting of 42 features and 42 shorts on five screens in four theatres over five amazing days including 19 World Premieres, 19 Canadian Premieres, 1 English Canadian Premiere, 34 Western Canadian Premieres, 3 British Columbian Premieres, and 7 Whistler Premieres. 51% of the features and 60% of the short films were Canadian. Films from 14 countries were screened including Canada, USA, UK, China, Austria, France, Denmark, Iceland, Iran, Ireland, Brazil, Sweden, Latvia and Mexico. Total attendance, including industry insiders, was on par with 2012 despite venue changes at 9,494 attendees (9,964 in 2012), including 628 delegates (a 13% increase compared to 556 in 2012).
The Festival continued to support cinematic excellence and awarded $31,500 in cash prizes and commissions. The Husband, by director Bruce McDonald, won the coveted $15,000 Borsos Competition for Best Canadian Feature. The $1,000 Canadian ShortWork Award went to Anxious Oswald Greene, directed by Marshall Axani. The $500 ShortWork Student Award went to Backward Fall by Ubc student Andrew Pollins. The Mppia Short Film Award presented by Mppia and Creative BC was won by Nick Citton for The Future Perfect, and consists of a $15,000 cash prize plus up to $100,000 in production services.
Designed to facilitate international alliances and financial partnerships, Wff’s industry Summit program presented 20 interactive sessions that addressed a range of issues affecting the film, television and digital media industry including the second consecutive China Canada Gateway for Film® Script Competition, and Wff’s new Feature Project Lab and Aboriginal Filmmaker Fellowship. Sessions were complimented by networking opportunities including one-on-one meetings, roundtable sessions and receptions. Overall, Summit attendance was at 78% capacity with 1,331 attendees, representing a 20% increase over 2012 (1,112 in 2012). In addition to the scheduled meetings that took place during the Summit, there was again a notable increase in unscheduled meetings that took place outside of scheduled blocks proving the festival remains an important place for the industry to meet and do business. Industry guests came from Canada, the USA and China to participate, and included some of the top talent and executives in the business. Wff announced three Canadian film projects that will move into development with Chinese production financing. There were several other deal discussions that began at the Festival both with China and other international investors.
The Whistler Film Festival is supported by Telefilm Canada, the Province of British Columbia and the Resort Municipality of Whistler. Bell Media (CTV, Etalk, E!) is Wff’s lead partner. Wff is sponsored by Variety, Transcontinental Media (Elle Canada), the Directors Guild of Canada - British Columbia, Creative BC, American Airlines, Sorel, Christie, Zoom Audio Visual Networks, Promosa Management, Tourism Whistler, Whistler Blackcomb and the Westin Resort & Spa Whistler.
The Whistler Film Festival Society (Wffs) is a cultural charitable organization dedicated to furthering the art of film by providing programs that focus on the discovery, development and promotion of new talent culminating with a must attend festival for artists, the industry and audiences in Whistler. Wffs produces one of Canada’s leading film festivals and plays a leadership role in offering professional and project development programs for filmmakers.

So the Hollywood director gave himself just passing marks for his on-screen interviews in his Jay Z concert documentary Made in America, which had a world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival Saturday night. "I didn't know how tough your job is, and I think I could do better," Howard told host George Stroumboulopoulos during a post-screening Q&A at Bell Lightbox. For the indie movie McCanick, Cory Monteith didn't audition for the role of a drug-addicted hustler sent to prison for murder. He just talked to director Josh C. Waller about his past. "He opened up quite a bit," Waller tells People of their meeting for the movie that shot last September. "He was like, 'I can do this character. I know this character. I was this character. I have lived elements of this.' He said, 'I was a troubled youth.' " Less than a year later, there were questions of whether Monteith's past had caught up with him after the Glee star,...

HBO has cast the first star of Ryan Murphy‘s human sexuality drama Open with American Beauty and Hunger Games stud Wes Bentley as a handsome but arrogant man who will tell you his theories about human sexuality given any chance.
TV Land’s upcoming sitcom Kirstie already has a Cheers reunion since it stars Kirstie Alley and Rhea Perlman. Now, Deadline reports that will be a Seinfeld reunion, too. Jason Alexander has signed up for a guest-role that could turn into a recurring character, which teams him up with Michael Richards.
An Arrested Development fighting game? Yes please. I can’t wait to play as Lucille and unleash her withering glare special move:
The ratings for ABC Family’s new dramas The Fosters and Twisted have been good. That is actually bad news if you’re hoping to see Bunheads or The Lying Game get additional episodes

The cable news network announced today that its new talk show Stroumboulopoulos will debut on June 9 right after the Season 1 finale of Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown. Fronted by Canadian talk show host George Stroumboulopoulos, the 10-week series will move to its regular Friday 11 Pm slot on CNN on June 14. The Sunday premiere comes just over a week before the debut of CNN’s new morning show New Day, the jewel in Jeff Zucker’s rebranding of the network. CNN first announced the Friday pop culture interview show back in early April. Stroumboulopoulos will film in La. CNN is certainly aiming to get a lot of mileage out of the new short-run show: Stroumboulopoulos will re-air at 2 Am and 5 Am on Fridays as well as at 11 Pm, 2 Am and 5 Am Et on Saturdays for the summer.

Oh, Southland, why do you inspire such conflicting emotions?

CNN is giving a weekly primetime show to CBC host George Stroumboulopoulos, according to Deadline. The show would feature interviews and musical guests filmed before a live audience. I know he's an incredibly popular host in Canada, I'm eager to see his interviews come stateside (and let's hope this goes better than it did with Graham Norton).
I'm never particularly excited about The Good Wife's political cameos due to the politicians they pick and booking Michael Bloomberg for an upcoming ep doesn't change that. We'll talk again if they ever get Elizabeth Warren.
Vulture has collected 25 moments on The Carrie Diaries and the Sex and the City moments they recalled. It almost made me want to dig up my old SatC DVDs.
TV Guide reports that Elementary has cast its Irene Adler with Natalie Dormer from Game of Thrones and The Tudors.

CNN is launching a new series from George Stroumboulopoulos, host of Canadian broadcaster CBC's "George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight." We will be charitable here, and assume that CNN isn't trying to dupe people into believing that they've signed "Good Morning America" co-host George Stephanopoulos to a program. Also read: Jon Stewart Rips CNN's 'Steady Spiral Downward' Under Leadership of Jeff Zucker (Video) On the new show, which will consist of 10 one-hour episodes, Stroumboulopoulos will interview "the public figures driving our cultural conversations and offer a fresh perspective on the interview and talk show format...

CNN has firmed up plans for another new program. The evolving cable news network said Tuesday that it has hired Canadian television host George Stroumboulopoulos for a 10-episode summer series. Set for an early summer launch, the weekly show will air Fridays and tape in front of a live audience in Los Angeles. It will feature Stroumboulopoulos' interviews and his take on art, pop culture, politics, news, sports and celebrity. “We’re really pleased to bring this special series to CNN,” said Amy Entelis, senior vp talent and content development at CNN Worldwide. “It is a good example of the

Exclusive: Maybe there’s a Canadian quota at CNN. Just days after longtime business correspondent Ali Velshi exited for Al Jazeera America, the cable news network has brought the CBC’s George Stroumboulopoulos on board to host a weekly interview show. In the latest CNN 2.0 move by the Jeff Zucker-run network, the new 10-episode hourlong show is set to air Fridays in primetime starting early in the summer. This is the second recent addition to CNN’s summer lineup. As I reported this weekend, the network is bringing back its political debate show Crossfire in June. The new and as-yet unnamed Stroumboulopoulos-hosted show will film in La in front of a live audience. Similar to the Canadian’s long-running talk show George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight in Canada, the CNN series will feature in-depth interviews along with musical performances. Sony Pictures TV’s Embassy Row will produce the series. This isn’t the first time U.
