- Composer and musician of Ukrainian background, who came to the fore in the 1930's as leader of one of the few all-female orchestras of the big band era. Known as the Hour of Charm All Girl Orchestra, the 22-piece ensemble featured Evelyn and Her Magical Violin (who eventually became Mrs. Spitalny) and was hosted by Arlene Francis as Mistress of Ceremonies in Spitalny's 'Hour of Charm' radio show (1934-48).
