Identical twin of Peter Shaffer

Won Broadway's 1971 Tony Award as author of Best Play winner "Sleuth."

Anthony and twin brother Peter have both won The Tony Award for Best Play. Anthony's only nomination/win came in 1971 for "Sleuth". Peter was nominated for "Black Comedy"(1967), and "Lettice and Lovage"((1990), and won for "Equus"(1975) and "Amadeus"(1981).

His screenplay for Hình Nhân Liễu Gai (1973) was greatly inspired by a book, "Ritual", by writer/actor David Pinner.

Stepfather of Jason Connery.

A former barrister, graduate in law from Trinity College, Cambridge.

In the West End, "Sleuth" played for 2,359 performances, and, playing for more than 2,000 performances on Broadway, won a Tony Award as the best play of 1970.

Diane Cilento and Anthony Shaffer lived together in Queensland from 1975 and married in 1985.

After Shaffer saw her on stage he lured her out of retirement to play the school mistress.
