TBS has picked up a 10-episode second season of multi-camera comedy Ground Floor, created by Bill Lawrence and Greg Malins and starring Skylar Astin and Briga Heelan. The renewal extends TBS’ streak of renewing its freshman series, which includes sitcoms Men at Work and Sullivan & Son and reality comedy King of the Nerds. Ground Floor started off lower than the other two scripted comedies, drawing 1.6 million viewers for its premiere vs. 2.7 million for for Men at Work and 2.5 million for Sullivan & Son. But Ground Floor launched against much stronger competition during the November sweep; it has been pretty consistent, and TBS brass believe in its upside potential. Ground Floor finished its first season with an average of 1.8 million viewers in Live + 7 delivery, including 1.1 million adults 18-49 and 575,000 adults 18-34. The renewal keeps Lawrence and Malins with two projects each at TBS. Lawrence has series Cougar Town, while Malins has pilot Your Family or Mine.

TBS has given a pilot order to Your Family Or Mine, a multi-camera comedy from veteran comedy showrunner Greg Malins, Sony Pictures TV and Jamie Tarses’ studio-based Fanfare. The project, originally set up at ABC during the 2012-13 development season as a single-cam, is based on hit Israeli comedy series Your Family Or Mine? from leading Israeli broadcaster Keshet. Written by Friends and How I Met Your Mother alum Malins, the adaptation centers on Oliver and Kelli who are living proof of the adage “When you marry someone, you don’t just marry them, you marry their whole family.” It is a family comedy with an unusual structure — each episode focuses on a different side of the family: one week featuring the couple dealing with Kelli’s family, the next spent with Oliver’s. Your Family Or Mine?, created by Rubi Duanias, Yaniv Polishuk and produced by Teddy Prods., aired...

TBS‘ new original comedy series Ground Floor premiered Thursday night with 1.6 million viewers, including 918,000 adults 18-49. This is an unspectacular ratings start for the workplace romantic comedy, given its auspices. Scrubs and Cougar Town creator Bill Lawrence wrote the sitcom with former Friends and How I Met Your Mother executive producer Greg Malins, and comedy veteran Jeff Astrof (Grounded For Life) was tapped as exec producer/showrunner after its 10-episode pickup; Jeff Ingold is among its exec producers. The series stars Skylar Astin (Pitch Perfect), Briga Heelan (Cougar Town) and John C. McGinley (Scrubs). For comparison sake, January’s premiere of Cougar Town on TBS was considered decent, if unspectacular, at 2.2 million viewers, with more than 1.3 million adults 18-49 and 613,000 adults 18-34 in Live+Same Day. That was on par or slightly lower than TBS’ recent comedy premieres for Men At Work (2.65 million total viewers, 1.63 million adults 18-49, 851,000 adults 18-...

Two longtime television colleagues are scrubbing in again as they launch a new series.
John C. McGinley worked with executive producer Bill Lawrence for nine seasons as the caustic Dr. Perry Cox on the hospital sitcom "Scrubs." Now the actor plays another slightly off-center mentor as Mr. Mansfield, the self-impressed boss of young bankers in "Ground Floor," a new comedy co-created by Lawrence that premieres with two episodes Thursday, Nov. 14, on TBS.
"When Billy called me up about this, I was just coming off '42,' " the perpetually busy McGinley tells Zap2it, "and I was happily reintegrating myself into doing films. I told him that having had one of the premium experiences of my life, doing the nine years on 'Scrubs' and playing such a damaged and delicious character, I was pretty gun-shy about going back in that pool. And Billy just broke it down for me...

For a channel that uses the slogan "Very Funny," it's not like TBS has had many funny comedies that weren't hits elsewhere before being snatched up in syndication. But Ground Floor, while not groundbreaking in any way, may change that. Ground Floor is the latest sitcom from Bill Lawrence (Scrubs, Cougar Town) and Greg Malins (2 Broke Girls, How I Met Your Mother), a sitcom that wedges a romantic comedy into an Upstairs, Downstairs premise. One thing worthy of mention: Ground Floor features two actors from last year's hit a cappella comedy Pitch Perfect. It also shares certain thematic

The "upstairs downstairs" framework we've come to love on Downton Abbey translates fairly well to the world of corporate workplace romantic comedy in TBS's Ground Floor, a likable if decidedly modest bauble from sitcom vets Bill Lawrence (Cougar Town) and Greg Malins (Friends), working in the too-often-disparaged mode of traditional multi-camera comedy. (The first two episodes air back-to-back Thursday starting at 10/9c.)

Exclusive: Friends and How I Met Your Mother alum Greg Malins has teamed with former Fox co-head of comedy Marcus Wiley for Odd Couple Families, a half-hour project that has sold to Fox with penalty. The comedy — produced by Sony Pictures TV, where Malins is under an overall deal — landed at Fox as part of Wiley’s first-look development deal at the network where he was an executive for more than five years until departing in July to segue to producing. Written and exec produced by Malins, Odd Couple Families explores the reality of people spending the most time with the parents of their kids’ friends whether they like it or not. It revolves around two couples and two divorced parents who are forced together, inextricably linked by the connection created by their kids. This marks the most significant sale thus far for Wiley’s new production company, which has...

Pitch Perfect’s swoon-worthy lead Skylar Astin has gone shirtless and hopped into bed to promote his upcoming TBS sitcom Ground Floor. But in the promo art, which you’re seeing first on EW.com, his bed is looking a little crowded — which is bound to happen when you share it with two other people.
One of them, Briga Heelan (Cougar Town), plays Astin’s love interest on the show, in which their work-romance-with-a-twist takes center stage. (The twist is that she works in maintenance and he’s a hotshot banker who works in the building.) And the other? Scrubs vet John C. McGinley,...

An ensemble single-camera comedy pitch by up-and-coming writer Barry Schwartz, Sony TV and studio-based producers Greg Malins and Seth Gordon has sold to Fox. Written by Schwartz with Malins supervising/showrunning, The Worst Best Thing is described as an edgy, docu-style comedy about three couples — two with new babies and one who’s expecting — who have known each other since grade school and are very angry at all the people who lied to them about how “wonderful and beautiful” having babies is. It is almost never those things. But the few amazing moments that are make up for almost all of it. Malins is executive producing with Gordon through his Exhibit A where the project was shepherded by head of development Mary Rohlich. This marks Wme-repped Malins’ second sale this season, along with comedy Half at NBC. Gordon, repped by Wme, Brillstein Entertainment and Sloane, Offer, recently sold Marry Me...
