The Grammy-winning singer is set to join Kamala Harris at a Friday rally in Houston, a source familiar with the planning confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter.

The Chicks took the stage at the final night of the Democratic National Convention to sing the National Anthem, joining other country artists who performed at the Chicago event, including Jason Isbell and Mickey Guyton on Monday.

Natalie Maines, Martie Maguire, and Emily Strayer delivered the “The Star-Spangled Banner” against the backdrop of the American flag on Thursday. Their performance opened the big night ahead of speeches from Vice President Kamala Harris, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper, Arizona Senator Mark Kelly, and former Arizona Congresswoman Gabby Giffords.

After July’s Republican National Convention attracted such luminaries as Hulk Hogan, Kid Rock and Amber Rose, this year’s Democratic National Convention is drawing arguably bigger stars like Oprah, Spike Lee, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Stevie Wonder.

This year’s DNC, celebrating Vice President Kamala Harris’ historic presidential nomination, was hosted by Tony Goldwyn, Ana Navarro, Mindy Kaling and Kerry Washington, with each star emceeing one night of the event. The four-day convention featured performances by Stevie Wonder, John Legend, Patti Labelle and other major musicians; surprise appearances by the likes of Oprah Winfrey, who gave a speech urging those who are registered as independent like herself to vote; a daytime panel moderated by Julia Louis-Dreyfus; and more.

Besides the noteworthy political figures who made an appearance at the DNC, including President Joe Biden and Harris herself, these are the recognizable names who have been spotted at events around the convention.

It’s becoming a tradition: The Chicks will sing “The Star Spangled Banner” on the final night of the Democratic National Convention Thursday evening, just as they did at the DNC four years ago.

This rendition is likely to be much more emotionally charged, though, as the trio will be performing it live, unlike the solemn version that was pre-recorded in 2020, for the pandemic edition of the convention.

The news was first reported by CNN.

At the time of the 2020 DNC appearance, Variety described their version as “turning the National Anthem into the harmony Olympics.”

But the group, formerly known as the Dixie Chicks, has a history with the National Anthem that stretches much further back than just four years ago — most famously with a rendition at Super Bowl Xxxvii that has been oft-cited as among the greatest televised versions of Frances Scott Key’s anthem ever.

John Legend and Sheila E. were spotted in rehearsals at the United Center, in advance of the third night of the Democratic National Convention.

They will lead a tribute to Prince in advance of a speech by vice presidential nominee Tim Walz, the governor of Minnesota.

They also are the latest performers at the convention, with Jason Isbell and Mickey Guyton on Monday and Patti Labelle on Tuesday.

Convention officials have yet to unveil the order of the lineup for the evening, but former President Bill Clinton, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and Gov. Josh Shapiro (D-pa) also will speak.

The speeches from Barack and Michelle Obama were the highlight of the second night of the Democratic National Convention, but also the first-of-its-kind, well-produced ceremonial roll call, set to a DJ’s jam.

In the arena lit with color changing blinking lights, there was Lil Jon, taking off in a surprise rap when Georgia was called to cast its votes for Kamala Harris; Sean Astin paying homage to Rudy as Indiana announced its tally; and Spike Lee appearing with the New York delegation as its governor boasted of the Empire State’s supremacy.

Then there was Wisconsin, a key battleground state, and its governor, Tony Evers, surrounded by delegates wearing cheesehead hats. As he started to trumpet his state, telling the arena that he was here “because I’m jazzed as hell,” he tripped up in announcing the tally for Kamala Harris.

A cavalcade of high profile guests helped keep the fire burning Tuesday night at the 2024 Democratic National Convention in Chicago.

Musical performers who opened the first night of the four-day gathering included James Taylor, Jason Isbell and Mickey Guyton. Also spotted: Ana Navarro, who will be the host of the evening, with the theme “A Bold Vision for America’s Future.” Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D-il) also appeared in advance of his speaking slot this evening.

GLAAD, the world’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) media advocacy organization, has announced that that two-time Grammy Award-winning recording artist, Academy Award-winning actress, and Tony and Emmy Award-winning producer, and host of the Emmy-Nominated “The Jennifer Hudson Show,” Jennifer Hudson will receive GLAAD’s Excellence in Media Award and groundbreaking country artist Orville Peck will receive the Vito Russo Award at the 35th Annual GLAAD Media Awards in New York, which will be hosted by Emmy-winning television host and producer, Ross Mathews.

GLAAD’s Excellence in Media Award is presented to allies who have made a significant difference in promoting acceptance of LGBTQ people. Previous Excellence in Media Award honorees include Marren Morris, Judith Light, Ava DuVernay, Patti Labelle, Debra Messing, Tyra Banks, Julianne Moore, Barbara Walters Diane Sawyer and more.

GLAAD is putting the finishing touches on the program for its East Coast awards gala by confirming Jennifer Hudson and Orville Peck for top honors and media personality Ross Mathews to front the affair as host.

The GLAAD Media Awards — set for May 11 at the Hilton Midtown — will honor Hudson with an excellence in media award while country artist Peck will take home a Vito Russo award. Hudson will receive the trophy for being an ally who has “made a significant difference in promoting acceptance of LGBTQ people.” She’ll join a roster of honorees that includes Marren Morris, Judith Light, Ava DuVernay, Patti Labelle, Debra Messing, Tyra Banks, Julianne Moore, Barbra Walters, Diane Sawyer and more.

“A multihyphenate talent who uses her platform and influence across media to support and uplift LGBTQ people, Jennifer Hudson’s allyship is thoughtful, loud and powerful,” said GLAAD president and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis.

GLAAD said Tuesday that Jennifer Hudson and country singer Orville Peck will be honored with special awards at the 35th annual GLAAD Media Awards ceremony May 11 in New York.

Hudson, the Grammy and Oscar winner whose The Jennifer Hudson Show is nominated for Outstanding Variety or Talk Show Episode at the New York ceremony, will receive GLAAD’s Excellence in Media Award for championing allyship and promoting acceptance of LGBTQ people and issues. Peck will receive the Vito Russo Award for elevating LGBTQ awareness in country music.

Both will be honored at the New York ceremony hosted by Ross Matthews at the Hilton Midtown. The evening will also see 17 remaining GLAAD Media Awards handed out after a portion were announced during the Los Angeles ceremony in March hosted by Wayne Brady.

First, we look back on the origins of the subject; we are introduced to some of the key figures that helped them along the way; we are shown the beginning of their career all the way to the end, and are then left to contemplate their legacy.

Due to the predictability of this format, these documentaries can often come off as by-the-numbers, taking us on a telegraphed emotional journey intended as a crowdpleaser. But every once in a while, there’s a subject who is so unique that their story elevates the formula. Los Angeles, Jan 6 (Ians) Grammy winner Michael Bolton has revealed that he has been diagnosed with brain tumour and will be taking a temporary break from performing.

The 70-year-old singer took to Facebook to make the announcement about his health, reports deadline.com.

“Just before the holidays, it was discovered that I had a brain tumor, which required immediate surgery. Thanks to my incredible medical team, the surgery was a success,” Bolton wrote.

“I am now recuperating at home and surrounded by the tremendous love and support of my family.”

He told fans he will be taking the “next couple of months” to his recovery and taking a “temporary break” from touring.

“It is always the hardest thing for me to ever disappoint my fans or postpone a show, but have no doubt I am working hard to accelerate my recovery and get back to performing soon,” wrote Bolton.
