Voltage Pictures is kicking off sales in Cannes this week on the child kidnapping thriller Stolen Girl starring Kate Beckinsale and Scott Eastwood.
Italy’s Ilbe is lead-producing and Voltage is executive producer on the €25m ($26m) feature, which started principal photography on Monday (May 13) in Puglia in Italy.
Stolen Girl follows Maureen Danning (Beckinsale), who partners with Robeson (Eastwood), a former Marine and child abduction specialist, after her ex-husband abducts their young daughter and flees to the Middle East.
Maureen and Robeson embark on a mission to Beirut and navigate a maze of betrayal, corruption, and espionage to bring the girl home.

Kate Beckinsale, Scott Eastwood and James Cromwell will star in kidnapping drama “Stolen Girl” directed by Britain’s James Kent.
“Stolen Girl,” which is in pre-production in Southern Italy’s Apulia region, is inspired by the real story of an American woman named Maureen Dabbagh who spent years tracking down her daughter who had been abducted and taken to the Middle East by the child’s father.
In the film, which starts out in 1993 in Ohio, Maureen’s 6-year-old daughter Amina is snuck out of the country by her ex-husband, Karim. After years of unsuccessful attempts to find her, Maureen intersects with a professional retriever of internationally abducted kids who promises to help her find Amina in exchange for her collaboration. Maureen eventually succeeds in tracking down her ex-husband and Amina in Beirut, where she will face “the most difficult decision of her life,” according to a provided synopsis.

In Netflix's "You," Penn Badgley's bookish killer lives a very unstable life. Not only is it exhausting work to stalk his way into the hearts of unsuspecting ladies, it also never ends well for anyone involved. So, at the end of each and every season, Joe finds himself starting over in a new place, completely alone (if you don't count whichever unlucky woman is about to be courted into an early grave). Thankfully, despite his grating personality and penchant for murder, Joe has a pretty good track record when it comes to making friends. In the fourth season of the hit series, Joe manages to forge one of his most intriguing friendships yet, with a famous author on the verge of launching a political career.

Feature documentary “The Ghost of Richard Harris,” which premieres Sunday at the Venice Film Festival, looks to answer the question: “Who was Richard Harris?” The film also contains the revelation that Harris was offered the role of Gandalf in Peter Jackson’s “Lord of the Rings” movies, but chose to take the part of Dumbledore in the “Harry Potter” franchise instead.
Variety spoke to director Adrian Sibley and Richard Harris’ son Jared Harris – a distinguished actor himself, and one of the originators of the project – about how the documentary came to be made.
Sibley first broached the subject of making a film about Richard Harris some 20 years ago with the man himself, who responded: “I’ll do it, but only if I can tell the truth half the time,” Jared Harris recalls.
“This Sporting Life”
Sibley liked this idea but the BBC – who he pitched it to – were less keen.

Exclusive: The BBC is betting big on season two of Heyday Television’s deepfake spy thriller The Capture, promoting it to the coveted Bank Holiday weekend 9pm slot that in recent years has been occupied by Bodyguard, Peaky Blinders and Vigil.
Deadline can exclusively reveal the scheduling for this year’s August Bank Holiday Sunday, which sees Ben Chanan’s Holliday Grainger-starring six-parter graduate from a Tuesday 9pm slot where it posted average rating of nearly 7.5M viewers per episode and was BBC iPlayer’s most requested new title across all genres of 2019. Season two will drop on U.S. streamer Peacock in November.
Season one’s audience increased through the run and Rebecca Ferguson, BBC Drama Commissioning Editor, said it was this “word of mouth” that partly drove the scheduling decision.
Speaking to Deadline, she credited the show’s sophistication paired with entertainment value as the driving force behind its success.

When I saw The Aftermath, the latest from Testament of Youth director James Kent, starring Kiera Knightley, Jason Clarke and Alexander Skarsgård, last weekend, I was seated next to an older man with a notepad who I assumed was a journalist. I chatted briefly with him before the film started, and when the lights went up and the credits began to roll, I asked him what he thought. His response: “I interviewed her [Knightley] when she did Atonement with James McAvoy. She was so good in that.”
That's a pretty fair takeaway from The Aftermath, which casts Knightley as Rachel, a bereaved military wife recently arrived in Hamburg in 1946 to join her estranged husband, Lewis (Jason Clarke), an officer in the British Army tasked with overseeing the rebuilding of the war-torn city and ferreting out any remaining Nazi-sympathizers...

The Aftermath is set in postwar Germany in 1945. Rachael Morgan (Keira Knightley) arrives in the ruins of Hamburg in the bitter winter, to be reunited with her husband Lewis (Jason Clarke), a British colonel charged with rebuilding the shattered city. But as they set off for their new home, Rachael is stunned to discover that Lewis has made an unexpected decision: They will be sharing the grand house with its previous owners, a German widower (Alexander Skarsgård) and his troubled daughter. In this charged atmosphere, enmity and grief give way to passion and betrayal.

Chicago – One of the roots of the sexual revolution in America was World War II (as it was the roots of many social movements). The stakes of life and death in an instant motivates the softest of puppy love to passion. “The Aftermath” takes that time honored emotional intensity into a right-after-the-war romance.
Rating: 4.0/5.0
The film – adapted from a novel by Rhidian Brook – is set in the devastated port city of Hamburg, which was destroyed by Allies bombers in the mid 1940s. Shortly after the German surrender, the British were assigned to start the rebuilding process, and set up a system for tribunals and construction. Against this backdrop is the particulars of the romantic triangle. Keira Knightley continues her reliable path of deep resonance as the conflicted woman torn between two lovers, and Jason Clarke surprises as the husband in the triangle who values his duty as much as his wife.

Plenty of new movies are hitting arthouses. Two prime players platformed high-profile films, but neither Sundance opener “The Mustang” (Focus Features) nor “The Aftermath” (Fox Searchlight) passed the $20,000 per-theater average that stands as a minimum gauge for long-term specialized success. Like last week’s opener “Gloria Bell” (A24) — which expanded decently this weekend — both are aimed at the older demo who can be counted on to turn up in theaters as films broaden.
With the awards season in the rearview, it’s been a while since so many quality subtitled films are on display at once. Sure, an Oscar nomination helps to brand a foreign-language film, but several movies are holding their own anyway, especially starry family drama “Everybody Knows” (Focus), headlined by Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz.

Keira Knightley is looking back at one of her most memorable sex scenes to film.
Knightley, 33, opened up about her memorable love scene with James McAvoy in the 2007 film Atonement.
“The best sex scene I’ve done onscreen is the one in Atonement, on the bookshelf,” the actress told Vulture. “It was both the best sex scene, but also [the best] to shoot.”
In the past, several actors and actresses have pointed out how different sex scenes in films are from real life — noting at times how uncomfortable filming them can be — but Knightley said Atonement director Joe Wright made the process easy.

The reigning queen of period pieces, Keira Knightley, knows a thing or two about historical clothing.
“Lining. Lining is always important,” the Oscar-nominated actress playfully advised on Wednesday at the premiere of her post-wwii drama “Aftermath.” “If you get a lot of itchy stuff always put lining in it. I have learned that from having done a number of these. Now I know, always ask for lining.”
Reflecting on the script that highlights a love triangle in the midst of rebuilding Germany in 1946, Knightley told Variety, “I read it and thought I can’t do another World War II film. And then it just really stuck in my head, and I think it is because what I never realized was that the real triumph of that generation was actually that they managed to rebuild that continent. Those problems added up to immortal romance cinema for Bogie and Bergman in Casablanca. Things are not so lucky for the love triangle at the core of The Aftermath, a stuffy, soggy slog of a movie that fails to generate sparks or a lick of dramatic sense. Director James Kent — striking out after his striking debut with Testament of Youth — adapts Rhidian Brook’s...

‘The Aftermath’ with Keira Knightley is another new opener.
Stephen Merchant’s solo directorial debut Fighting With My Family leads the openers at the UK box office this weekend, and will look to dethrone three-time champion The Lego Movie 2 from the summit.
The film, which premiered as a ‘secret screening’ in Sundance this year, follows a family of wrestlers from Norwich, as siblings Saraya and Zak work to make it in the WWE. Screen Stars of Tomorrow Florence Pugh (2016) and Jack Lowden (2014) lead the cast, which also includes Nick Frost, Lena Headey and executive producer and former wrestler Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.

Keira Knightley is on a bit of hot streak as an actress, even if some of the projects she has been attached to haven’t quite made their mark. Earlier this year, she shone in Wash Westmoreland’s brilliant Colette, making big splash a few years before in more ‘modern’ fare as Say When and Begin Again, and more recently was the best thing in The Nutcracker And The Four Realms and the painfully awful Collateral Beauty. Whether in period or not, Knightley deserves her dues and while her latest film, romantic drama The Aftermath, fits somewhere in between those mentioned, she once again proves her worth.
Knightley stars as Rachael Morgan, wife to Lewis (Jason Clarke), who travels across Europe to Hamburg post World War II to be reunited with him at a palatial home which he is helping to rebuild. The city is a shell of what it once was,...

Keira Knightley plays a lonely military wife who falls for a German widower in a tragi-romantic drama set uneasily amid Hamburg’s smouldering ruins
Suite Française meets Lady Chatterley in this hammy and preposterous 1940s romantic drama set in the aftermath of the second world war, the “aftermath” alluding also to the consequences of matching tragedies in the lovers’ personal lives.
Keira Knightley, Alexander Skarsgård and Jason Clarke give honest performances, directed confidently enough by James Kent, working from Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse’s adaptation of the 2013 bestseller by Rhidian Brook. There are some nice enough moments. I liked the German and the Brit agreeing that the “Deutsche See” and the “North Sea” are the same thing and that it is “all the same sea in the end”.

As elegant post-war dramas about dark, romantic entanglements go, “The Aftermath” delivers the bare minimum. Director James Kent’s adaptation of Rhidian Brook’s novel is a sweeping, gorgeous, and even wistful look at the clandestine romance between the wife of a British colonel (Keira Knightley) and a German widower (Alexander Skarsgård) in the aftermath of the Allied forces’ victory. But none of the pretty imagery or impassioned lovemaking can break free of a mopey old formula that sits on every scene with the same schematic quality that makes its weary setting so familiar from the start.
Which is not to mean it lacks historical vision. Set in Hamburg in 1945, as British forces sort through the ruins and overtake German property, “The Aftermath” finds Knightley’s Rachael Morgan arriving in the city to reunite with her estranged husband Lewis (a stern Jason Clarke). Less widely seen (and acclaimed) than it deserved to be, James Kent’s debut feature “Testament of Youth” was one of the great recent love-in-wartime dramas, translating the intimate romance and sprawling human tragedy of Vera Brittain’s Wwi memoir with a grace and heft worthy of its David Lean allusions. Four years on, it’s not hard to see why Kent was enlisted for “The Aftermath,” which aims for a similar old-school blend of stiff-upper-lipped heartbreak and grand classical sweep amid the ruins of another world war — albeit from material a bit thinner than Brittain’s. Paring Rhidian Brook’s 2013 bestseller down to a straightforward love triangle between Keira Knightley and Jason Clarke’s troubled English married couple and the dreamy German widower (Alexander Skarsgård) whose house they’ve requisitioned in postwar Hamburg, Kent’s film settles efficiently but less enthralingly into rainy-afternoon soap territory.

From the wreckage of Allied-bombed Hamburg comes the post-World War II romantic triangle “The Aftermath,” and suddenly the problems of three little people amount to a hill of blah in this handsomely mounted, but hopelessly machine-pressed game of who are sacrificing more to escape the rubble of shattered desire and lingering grief.
Director James Kent’s adaptation of Rhidian Brook’s 2014 novel — about a ghost-like Germany, a broken British marriage, and the healing powers of a passionate thaw — has the unfortunate quality of a hot-blooded soap grafted onto rather than merged with a historical-political drama. The result exhibits little feel for how each genre’s particular needs might interfere with the other’s, or how the film’s trio of capable actors might be properly utilized.

"We will be alright?" Fox Searchlight has debuted the first official UK trailer for an indie drama titled The Aftermath, set in Hamburg in 1946 just after the war. The film is about a British Colonel, Lewis Morgan, who has been charged with the task of rebuilding of this devastated city and denazification of its defeated people. Rather than force the owners of the house they will live in to leave, he insists the two families live together. Once his wife arrives and moves in, her hatred for the Germans changes when she begins to fall in love with the owner of the home. Keira Knightley stars with Jason Clarke, plus Alexander Skarsgård, Kate Phillips, Jannik Schümann, Fionn O'Shea, and Alexander Scheer. This is a better trailer than the first one, and it shows much more of the story as it progresses into intense "romantic thriller" territory. Here's the official UK...

We talked to Ed Speleers, Sophie Skelton, and Richard Rankin about the new antagonist in Outlander Season 4.
Time has often acted as Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie's (Sam Heughan) primary antagonist on Outlander, but the time travel drama has also had some truly reprehensible flesh-and-bone villains. In Seasons 1 and 2, the role went to "Black Jack" Randall (Tobias Menzies). In Season 4, that narrative honor goes to Stephen Bonnet (Ed Speleers), an Irish pirate who will do seemingly anything for personal gain.
We first meet Bonnet in the Outlander Season 4 premiere, when Claire and Jamie help him escape the hangman's noose only to fall victim to Bonnet and his men's murderous robbery at the end of the episode, but Bonnet is around to stay. Den of Geek had the chance to chat with Ed Speleers, who plays Bonnet, about joining the show and bringing the character to life.

Keira Knightley is set to star in Miss World pageant comedy drama “Misbehaviour” for Pathé. Pathé will present the film, which is directed by BAFTA-winner Philippa Lowthorpe, to buyers at the upcoming American Film Market.
“Misbehaviour” is based on the true events of the 1970 Miss World pageant in London, when a global audience witnessed the patriarchy driven from the stage and the Western ideal of beauty turned on its head. The most-watched television show in the world at the time, with more than 100 million viewers, the 1970 Miss World pageant saw the newly formed Women’s Liberation Movement achieve overnight fame by invading the stage and disrupting the live broadcast, hosted by Bob Hope, claiming that such beauty competitions demeaned women. When the show resumed, the result caused further uproar when Miss Grenada became the first black woman to be crowned Miss World, beating the favorite. Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Jessie Buckley co-star in the film.
